Great location, good food, great service. A lot of different restaurants. A wonderful breakfast. We loved that we could snorkel right next to the beach. The marina five minutes from the hotell were really cute. We though that the roomstandard were a bit below avarage but still we would highly recommend this hotell to other.

So here you are looking for someplace to go on your vacation. Trying to ensure you have a great time and spend your hard earned dollars wisely. Well here’s your answer: Catalonia Riveria Maya Resort. We were at this sort resort back in 2010 and at the Catalonia Playa Maroma three times since then. Both resorts are amazing and I have only good things to say about both.

We went to the Catalonia Riveria Maya Resort in January for seven days and stayed in the privileged side of the resort. The room was super clean and the daily towel sculptures never failed to make us smile. In room there’s a safe, flat screen TV, 110v outlets, hair dryer and mini-bar stocked with cerveza, water and soft drinks.

We went to almost all of the a la carte restaurants and ate breakfast and one dinner at the buffet. Japanese is the winner, with the steak house, Italian and Mexican rounding them all out. We had reservations at The Tapas but it’s open air and it was a bit cool that night so we passed. There is an amazing spot that serves burgers, fries and all the comfort food you might miss from home right by the pool. Add to that a hot dog cart and a creperie and even the fussiest of eaters will be happy.

The staff are all smiles and willing to help you with any of your needs. There’s a bank and a couple of stores on site to check for souvenirs or supplies.

I’m always a bit worried about the nightly entertainment but was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the shows. When they started to lip sync I was like, “oh no...” but by the end of the show clapping right along with the packed audience. Right outside the theater is a cool chill area with a brand new bar. Nightly entertainment before and after the shows gets everyone up dancing and having a great time.

The pools are clean and well kept and the resort is in the process of replacing all of the loungers with new ones. You’ve probably heard about the rocky beach so I would advise bringing along some slip on water socks. But if you enter on the lagoon side it’s all beautiful sand with no rocks at all.

There are lots of friendly people at this resort from Canada, USA, UK and beyond. We met one couple that has been to this resort 21 times! So that speaks volumes to me. We’re looking to book again in March because there’s something nice about going to a place where you know you’re guaranteed to have a fantastic time.

Any questions at all please send me a message and have fun in Mexico!

Our stay was over the last week of January. We were travelling with our two young boys (3 and 6 years) and had been a little worried since this was our first trip with them. We had previously stayed at two other 5-star resorts in the area as a couple but needed a more affordable option with the kids.

Any worries we had after reading some of the reviews here were quickly dispelled.

Check-in and out was a breeze and staff was very pleasant. And our experience was great with all the accommodating staff from house keeping to waiters to bartenders.
Buffets were always very clean and food was good (of course there are things you won't like as all tastes differ but we never left hungry or unsatisfied). The specialty restaurants were amazing, our favorites being B Loved and the hibachi. They were especially accomidation with our kids, so nice chatting them up and always made them feel welcome.
Yes the beach is smaller but we had a blast swimming with the fish and never felt over crowded. Yes the pool where activities take place is loud (and fun) but there were plenty of quieter areas as well.

Honestly, we couldn't have been happier with the bang for out buck here and will definately consider a return trip.

Room tip: Stayed in room 8216 (privilege suite). Very roomy and comfortable. Only down side is there is no sun of the deck.

This was our family's 1st trip and our first time in Mexico. We booked the Catalonia based on the great reviews of the service and hospitality and they were not wrong. The property is not overly large, which is exactly what we wanted. Being able to access our room and the amenities was important for us. Having the pools, beach, bars and restaurants a short walk away was very convenient. The beach is rocky in spots but bring water shoes and you will be comfortable and enjoy the wonderful array of fish within 3-5 feet of water right of the beach. We spent hours easily snorkeling right off of the beach. The restaurants were all great, the a la carts were all a fun experience and the buffets never disappointed, even the kids always found something they liked and tried new things. The service was friendly and helpful everywhere in the hotel. We especially loved Erica and Omar in the Mini Club, as they made our kids feel very welcome and had a great time with them. It was a great family experience and we will be back.
We would gladly reccomend to other families.

they gave us a room 2 different times and both times there were people already staying in the room. The front desk staff were not helpful at all and we had to get guest services to help us out. It took us over 2 hours to check in
