I agree with most of the positive reviews that say the Eldorado Seaside is an exquisite retreat. The welcoming service, beautiful decor, rooms and grounds are everything you would hope to find. The drawback is that the management will not put forth much effort to help you should you have a problem. For those folks who never encountered problems (we wish we had been you) I'm sure the vacation was great. We had an unfortunate experience in the midst of our stay where both my husband and I got very ill, all night, after our dinner in the asian restaurant. My husband called the concierge the next day to tell them what happened. They didn't have much to say except that they were willing to send up some immodium but it would cost $9. We had no choice but to take it. We had not been outside the hotel grounds for two days, so we know it was something we ate. And, no, we never drink the water in Mexico (we visit every year). We talked with our Worry Free Vacations representative about it and she was very sympathic and helpful, offering to bring us any kind of medicine we would like - we felt she was the only friend we had there. From that day on, we only ate food we had eaten the first three days we were there from the snack bar. We stayed away from the restaurants except when we took a taxi to Puerto Aventuras to have a real meal. When we were checking out, my husband didn't make an issue of the illness but he did say that it wasn't fair that they charged us for the medicine. The customer service rep said she would have to get the manager to come over and for us to wait. We waited (and watched) for about 15 minutes, during which time she talked to some customers, straightened her desk, made a couple phone calls - not to the manager, and avoided our eyes. Eventually our bus to the airport showed up and we couldn't wait any longer. We have never had such poor treatment from a hotel representative. Bottom line advice is if you choose this hotel, stay out of the asian restaurant, and try not to let problems interfere with your good time, just live with them. P.S. we tipped A LOT, something I recommend.

We just returned from the EDSS, and man what a time we had! We were lucky enough to go with a large group from Victoira bc. Approx 40 of us! I think that we took over the resort. Our check in was perfect, no problems at all. We were welcomed with a fruit kabob,a glass or two a champaine, and a nice warm face cloth. We then were taken to our room, where out luggage was waiting for us. The room was perfect, we had a nice towel swan on the bed, just like in all the pictures. The only flaw in our room was that our shower didn't drain properly, but I can understand that after the hurracaine. I was very impressed with all that they have done with the place, the repairs etc. it looks great. They are planting new palms and continually working on the grounds. The staff... well can I say! They were all fantastico! David our waiter in the international resturant was great, he really worked his butt off, and Roule, the activities guy, he really made the vollyball and poolside, and evenings fun. Victor, the bellhop was great, he was so helpful and always made you laugh. The group that we went with had a large vow renewal ceremony, and the resort went above and beond the call of duty. It was very nice. Everyone that took part, will have some really great memories. The food was always top notch! You can't come to this resort and expect speedy dinner service. Our lives back home are focused so much on speed, and instant gratifation. You come on vaction to relax and slow down. So do that, enjoy the fact that dinner might take you 1hour and half to eat, where else do you have to be? So in closing, I would definitly recommed this resort to all my friend! We had a great time! I hope to get back there sometime in the future!

We just got back from EDS 14 days.We were upgraded to a jacuzzi room after experiencing both pressure and hot water problems.
The resort itself is very small an intimate however, there is a lack of activities both during the day and at night. The beachfront was devasted as a result of the hurricanes and is slowly coming back. If you like to walk the beach this is not the resort for you. The snorkelling is however good with the maximum depth of water being two feet.
The food is fantastic as are the drinks. The 2400hr room services is wonderful and quick. We really enjoyed our trip and our only complaint is the inconsistency of housekeeping. We never received any washclothes and never knew from one day to the other whether towels, coffee or bottle water would be in the room. Should you have any problems, go directly to concierge or management, staff at the front desk are useless and not very friendly. Resort has 4 interns working there from abroad and are the ones to speak too if having problems. We would not return to the area as once you have seen the 2 main attractions, Xel-ha and Xecarat(not worth the money since the hurricane), the beach there is not worth the money and the weather this time of year was cool in the evenings.

Just got back from EL Dorado Seaside in Mayan Riviera. We had a great time.
The resort is beautiful. It was very close to the reviews I read before my
trip. The Oc'Front suite was quite large with a good view to the beach. Food
was excellent with the exception of the service that was a bit slow & you might not
end up getting what you order. But just remember, most of the staffs at the
resort earn less than 100 peso (>C$8.00) per day. It was extremely
disappointed to see very few guest tipping the wait staffs. The only set
back was the sun bed on the beach. If you don't get up before 5:30am, you
will not be able to find one until the afternoon.
If you expect to party every night, this is not the place for you as the bar and loundge is empty by 11:30pm.

The minute we arrived at the resort we were treated like royalty. The grounds were beautiful and continuously groomed by the staff. The people employed by the resort were all very helpful, friendly and worked so hard. Our room was immaculate and I felt like a princess in a palace. My husband and I went with 3 other couples Jan 4,2006 and stayed until the 11th. We were celebrating our 7 year wedding anniversary so we were treated to the moonlight dinner on the beach and it was enchanting and very romantic. Our concierge was the best, he asked us what we wanted to do and presented our options and took care of everything for us. It is true that people seem to be on a much slower time schedule there. If you just sit back and enjoy the beauty around you and do not get in a hurry you will enjoy the relaxing pace. The food was great. Breakfast and lunch menus were varied and very tastey. I am still craving the fresh pico and guacamole at lunch!! Our group was going here and there and seeing the sights so we missed out on dinner several times in the restaraunts because we were gone all day, but the room service was prompt and scrumptous. The presentation of the food was exquisite. I wasn't sure if I should eat it or take a picture of it!! There was one night at the Mexican restaurant that the food was disapointing, but the mexican coffee show made up for it. The drink of choice was a Miami Vice with Malibu rum on top---oh so good!! The drinks were all great, the service was wonderful, and the beach was so relaxing. The beach beds were not only lovely, but also comfy. The snorkeling was nice. The water is quite shallow, 3 feet or so in the deep spots, but the fish are pretty and there were a lot of them to see. Bring your water shoes because there is only one small spot you can walk out into the water where it is sandy, and you can't go out very far before it gets rocky. At times we felt like we were the only people there. It is a place to relax and get to know your partner again. We got up every morning by 6 am to see the incredible sunrise and were in bed by 9 or 9:30 pm at the lastest. We missed out on all the nighttime activities, but we were exhausted by the end of the day and ready to crawl in the big king size bed!! We also painted pottery and it was a lot of fun. The pools were a little cold, but we were told repeatedly it was winter there!!! 80 degrees plus in January? That is my kind of winter!! The jacuzzi was just the right size for 2 and so relaxing. We sat in there and watched the ocean out our sliding glass door, it was heaven!! There is internet access available for a small fee, so let your friends and family know not to expect any phone calls, only e-mails. There were a few hitches here and there, but overall it was so beautiful and the staff was so incredible that any problems were quickly forgotten. We will be going back ASAP. I would highly recommend Eldorado to people who are laid back ,ready to relax and want to have a peaceful vacation experience.
