My husband and I came here to celebrate our 17th anniversary. We couldn't have been more pleased, from the staff, to the room, to the cleanliness, to the food, to the beach. It was more than we could have hoped for. When we arrived we were greeted with a cool cloth and a glass of champagne. Check in was easy - we were even offered to look at a couple of different rooms to decide which one we really would like. We upgraded to the ocean side and were in a ground level room which worked out perfectly for easy access to the beach. We had a romantic dinner on the beach one night - nothing like sitting outside to eat and hearing the ocean. We also spent some time at their spa and the experience there was none like any other spa we have been to in the past. If anyone is looking for a relaxing resort to spend some time at we would highly recommend this resort. Thank you everyone for making our 17th anniversary so special. We will be back!

Room Tip: Ocean front - ground level. This was very convenient when you were on the beach.

Our journey to Mexico and the El Dorado Seaside Suites started on a cold morning in Calgary. A fog of ice crystals was in the air making the downtown skyscrapers look like they we're floating in the air. In less than 12 hours we would be transported from a winter that had crept too far into spring and into a paradise that has never seen or heard of snow.

We totally forgot that we weren't going to the US, so showed up waaaay too early for the flight. That gave us more time to get the last few things off our plate as we leave behind the drum beat of work and family daily activities.

For this trip we chose Sunwing vacations and based on past experience - chose to upgrade our seats for faster check-in and seat selection. This started our trip off wonderfully since we we're able to get exit row seats and not have our knees hitting the seat in front of us. Starting with some champagne also helped us change gears from home to beach. The food and the flight to Cancun was uneventful.

The Cancun airport has improved through the years. That said - it's still a bit of a cattle call and confusion getting through customs. After years of travel we've developed a bit of a zen approach to travelling. We are not in control, and it's only a few hours to true rest & relaxation. This helps especially as we see others around us panic over this and that. Just breathe the warm air everyone - you're here!

Another upgrade we added on was a private transfer that takes us directly to our resort instead of waiting as others get dropped off. That said, with the new approach to using smaller busses, this may not be worth the expense as much. We ended up being one of the last people on our flight to leave, but still ended up getting to our hotel ahead of another couple that was coming to the same resort.

El Dorado Seaside Suites

This is our third time at El Dorado Seaside Suites. We started coming here five years ago after a few stays at much larger resorts. It is an intimate resort with great access to the beach and no other resorts around it to speak of. Our arrival was the usual welcome with a cold towel and fruit drink. We discovered that we had booked in the new 'Premier Suites' that had just opened the year before in May. We had hoped to get one of the garden suites we had stayed in the last time we we're here, but they we're all full.

The new suites tower above the rest of June resort and are set off a bit as well. Since we spend almost all of our time at the beach, this was not too bad. We felt we saw a bit more of the inner workings of the resort than we have in the past due to the proximity to the road and the lobby. That will change next year when the lobby moves to where the spa is.

Our room was nice and new, though not much different than any of the other rooms we had stayed in. The bed was fantastic - probably the most comfortable I have been in. The usual towel animals and was clean before we returned all but one day we we're there.

It has been interesting to see the changes as the resort adds artificial reefs to the beach. Life is starting to grow and transform the beach slowly. The beach is great to swim in and always easy to find a chair. You do have to be there early if you want a beach bed. The sign says that any bed that has not had anyone in it for an hour will have the towels put at the Lost and Found. I would like to see that enforced sometime as many beds had towels and no people for most of the morning.

Breakfast had two spots we went to. The one by the beach with picnic tables had basically the same menu as the one near the bar. Lots of fresh fruit, custom omelettes and pastries. For sure enough calories to get you through the morning.

Lunch we usually went again to the beach and tried a variety of quite good dishes. Twice we went to the bar and had burgers. Usually had a longer wait there - though we had no where to go in any hurray, so was a nice time to relax.

We tried almost every restaurant and while there was an occasional miss there was usually one dish that was over the top. I will highlight four here:

Garden - if you only have one dish your entire stay - have the Pumpkin Soup. The honey drizzle makes it, but really quite a great dish. They also make the best Margarita in the whole resort.

Italian - this ends up being everyone's favorite, but I think more for the ambiance. Here I would say that the Calamari stands out as an appetizer. Each of the meals though we're consistently very good.

Japanese - we we're a bit disappointed as the outdoor portion of the dining room was closed due to rain earlier in the afternoon.

Gastro Pub - this restaurant is new this year and I think the menu needs to be reorganized a bit to be clearer. That said, all of the food we tried was good and lots of it. The intro appetizers themselves we're quite a lot and I would have almost preferred to only have a choose of one of the three. If you go - order the Pork Belly main dish. While I liked the bangers and mash and fish & chips were OK, the pork belly dish had flavour on flavour.

There we're two staff that always brought a smile to their job and some humour to our interactions. My hat is off to Lorenzo and Graciella for all they did to make our stay a bit more enjoyable.

If you are looking for a romantic, smaller, adult-only resort I would say that the Seaside Suites fits the bill. We are a bit nervous that as it grows it will lose some of the appeal that it has currently. For the near future, it will remain on our go to place when we need a break from the cold of winter.

My wife and myself came here for my 70th birthday and were not disapointed. Service from check-in to check-out was excellent all the staff were exceptionally friendly and gave excellant service. We used all the restaurants which lived up to all we expected with one exception, we paid extra for a New York Style steak in the Mia Casa and this was one of the worst steaks I have had for many years. The hotel grounds were superb and our room was a garden suite (Room 3516 on the first floor level) with a lovely view of the grounds. We did feel this was starting to look dated but it was spotlessly clean and perfectly serviced every day, This, together with the poor Steak was the only reason we did not give this a perfect rating of 5 out of 5. We did feel the swim-up rooms may have lacked privacy and rooms around the main bar and restaurant area would be very noisy at night so this room suited us perfectly. The walk along the beach/in the sea to the next hotel makes a couple of hours pleasant stroll if you feel you want to move from the sunbed, which we never had any problems in getting at any time of the day. I would also agree with previous reviews regarding the use of a key for the room safe and the excessive charge for the loss of the key, electronic coded safes should be used. We did not use public transport but as we travelled with Thompson we booked 5 excursions with them, Chichen Itza, Coba, Tulum, Captain Hook and Xoximilco and all were first class. Do not travel all the way to Mexico and sit on a sunbed all day, go out and see the real Mexico and these excursions will give you memories for a lifetime. The u.k. visitors to this hotel in the majority seem to travel with Thomson/First Choice. and my tips would be book in a Thomson shop, make them bring up the on line price in front of you and they will match it (dont just take verbal assurances, we have found this is not always so) then get them to look at various altrnative airport we can use either Birmingham or Manchester and Birmingham was £800 cheaper then Manchester. Then remember they are agents for various other tour and taxi companies so don`t take their first or on-line price make them look at alternative, Taxi return to hotel from airport on-line was about £100 (from memory) the alternarive company was £70 return and was faultless also we booked 2 excursions with Thomson from their range then 3 with Attraction World for whom they are also agents and this gave us a much wider choice and were equal to Thomsons own. All these alternatives can be booked and payed for as part of your Thomson package.

Room Tip: Rooms away from the main bar/restraunt area will be much quieter especially at night.

Our friends have been to this resort on 2 previous occasions. For their vacation this year, my husband and I tagged along. What a great decision!
The rooms were adequate, and very comfortable. The food was amazing. I am a fussy eater, but there was something at every restaurant that I would eat, and it was always well presented and tasty. The drinks were offered in a larger glass than I have ever had at any other all inclusive. No need to run to the bar every 20 minutes!
The beach beds were something I had never seen before, and we have done quite a bit of travelling.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. All in all, a very good trip.

In brief the hotel was excellent. Great staff happy to help, smile and ensure you enjoy a great holiday. The resort is set out with 6-7 al la carte restaurants incl Thai/Italian/Mexican which ensures you can enjoy a different experience every breakfast/lunch/dinner.. Thai and Italian are a must for dinner whilst ensure you enjoy the Sunday fish market by beach.. Main bar provides nightly bands as well as great cocktails including international spirits.. During the day there is entertainment and games at main pool or relaxation across many beach beds in this place of paradise where by employees serve drinks/ice creams/treats.. Entertainment ranges from excelente to quite average but on the whole very good.. Found the resort very welcoming from staff to other guests which makes the whole vacation very enjoyable.. My only negative about the hotel was wifi comes at a cost of $50 per device per week and when you pay for Gourmet Inclusive you would think free wifi at least in public spots would be standard..

ps Dolphin experience at Xel Ha and night at Coco Bongos is a MUST..!!

Room Tip: choose a medium range room (junior suites are the newest)

My wife and I came here to celebrate our tenth wedding anniversary, and we had a remarkable experience. From check in to check out, the El Dorado Seaside met and exceeded our expectations.

Check in - Check in was quick and painless. Instead of waiting in a line to get to the front counter, you are greeted with a glass of champagne and taken to a desk with comfortable chairs, where they already have all your details, and go over any requests you may have made while booking your stay.

The Staff - My wife and have been to several all-inclusives, and we usually find a few employees that are really friendly and helpful. But we also find a lot of employees that don't really put forth any effort, and even some that seem to be inconvenienced by your presence. This is NOT the case at this resort. The staff couldn't possibly be friendlier or more accommodating. Not to mention they all speak English very well, no need to worry about your Spanish comprehension here.

The Room - We decided to stay in a swim up suite. While booking our stay we requested a swim up with lots of direct sun exposure, and the resort did not disappoint. The rooms are very well appointed with the usual amenities, and to our delight the king size bed was really very comfortable. We also enjoyed the large flat screen tv, in room hot tub, 24hr room service, and large shower with great water pressure. The swim up is in our opinion worth every nickel. On a lazy morning it's very easy to just order room service, then step out the sliding door to your personal loungers and a dip in the lazy river, before floating to the swim up pool bar for a nice blender drink.

The Pools - This resort has a few different pools that offer something for everyone. The main pool has a volleyball net, up beat music, activity staff, and a swim up bar. The pools for the swim up suites offers a quieter environment, were my wife and I made friends with other travellers, and became a favorite spot to meet up with our new friends for afternoon drinks and lots of laughs.
There are also a couple pools on the resort that don't have the swim up bars and seem to offer a very quiet and calming environment.

The Beach - The beach is a little on the narrow side, but this didn't bother us at all. Lounge chairs were always easy to find, even on days that we didn't head down to the beach until early afternoon. The ocean is a perfect aqua blue, and calm. The beach staff work very hard, and always try to keep a full cocktail in your hand.

The Food - To say the food at the El Dorado Seaside is good, is a massive understatement! There is exclusively a la carte dining for dinner, a mix of buffet style and a la carte for lunch and breakfast. The only restaurant that requires a reservation is the gourmet pub, which was our favorite. A couple of the more popular restaurants may have a short wait during the peak dinner hours, but the waits were always shorter than they said, and you're never far from a bar for a pre-dinner cocktail. All the food is served with special attention to detail. The resort makes a great effort towards maintaining a high level of hygiene in their restaurants, offering hand sanitizer and asking about personal food allergies by all hostesses.

The Spa - I'm not normally one for spa treatments, but the Naay Spa at the El Dorado Seaside is yet another great feature to his resort. My wife and I went in for aqua therapy, then an 80 minute massage, followed by a complimentary facial. This whole experience was the pinnacle of relaxing, and nothing short of amazing. Give it a try, money very well spent.

Special Thanks - If you decide to stay at this resort for you anniversary there is a handful of very generous extras you will receive, just be sure to bring a copy of your wedding certificate as proof. My wife and I forgot to bring ours, but the resort offered us the wedding anniversary extras regardless. Special thanks to Abraham, our bar tender at our swim up bar, he did an amazing job. My wife and I will return to this resort again, within the next couple years, the staff really makes you feel at home, and they all go out of their way to make sure your stay lives up to your expectations.

And a very special thanks to the friends we made, two couples from Canada, one from the United States, and one from the United Kingdom who met with us almost daily at the pool bar for what we liked to call the UN meetings. Congrats to David and Michelle on there engagement which we were priviledged to witness. Thanks for the memories.

Room Tip: For a swim up room stay in building 3800. They are a few rooms away from the swim up bar so you get...

I have read many reviews about El Dorado seaside suites before going. Let me tell you, they were all accurate. The resort is very clean, the staff is tremendous and "johnny on the spot" when needed. The food is a la carte for dinner and buffet for lunch and breakfast at most places. There is 24 hour gourmet room service as well. We are 100% satisfied with everything. I want to thank our trip advisor Mike who was very accommodating to us and thank you for finding this fantastic resort. His email is Michael@tripguy.com. Thank you again!!
