There was nothing but wonderful at this resort. Every need and want was taken care of. It was like they could read our minds. This resort is excellent. The resort is located in a quite area and has so much to do, that if you choose to not leave for an excursion, you will not be bored. We will continue to revisit El Dorado resorts. It is a short ride from Cancun's airport (30 minutes). There are several different ones in this area.

This was our second visit to this wonderful resort. We were pleased to see some improvements and sadden by some disappointments.
One of our first surprises was how the food greatly improved at the Mexican restaurant. We enjoyed the selection and portions and left having ate too much.
Our second surprise was the addition of the Gourmet Pub (GP). Now I know translation of language, idea or concept to another culture can be difficult and confusing. The GP is a concept out of the box thinking and should be admired for Karissma's attempt to create something really unique. Only here you walk in expecting to see a British, American or any pub from another country. You don't, it's set up as an eatery much like you would see in a small venue just about any where. What sets it apart from the other inclusive restaurants is making reservations and the concept of service. We ate there twice once as a couple and then as a small group. Here you have to be a little adventurous and some what of a "foody". First course starts out with the same appetizers for everyone and second, third courses chosen by you. With the exception of our small group. I got the feeling that we were a focus group for the food. We decided nothing but our drinks. The food just kept coming enough for everybody to sample each of the dishes. This was fine but because we had eaten there prior to our group going. There were some items missing we would have suggested others to eat. We didn't think to ask for a sample of the Russian Salad. If that's what Russians eat in their pubs they eat damn good stuff.

Our only food experience that was disappointing was one night we wanted to go to Arrefices (sp). Our last visit it was one of the Mrs. favorites. This time it wasn't to be open except that some rain had moved the Samwicheria indoors. Food was good but service sucked and partying patrons coming in the back way to confuse the wait staff made for a long night.
Over all our experiences in the restaurants where wonderful and made special because of many wonderful wait staff. Especially, Misha, Abraham, and Carlos Oh! and Omar at the grill. Whom some at least pretended they recognized us from our previous visit and made special efforts to our wants.
Our last visit we gave high marks to the management for service. This time service didn't lack but failed in execution. Karisma has a policy that states no one is to reserve beach chairs or beds until after 7 am. Though they try to enforce it to certain extent, it's not obvious. Twice we encountered patrons over differences at who had what bed/palapa. A few couples claimed both chairs and beds and didn't use one or the other over the entire day. We wish the beach management would enforce their rules for delinquent users. However the resort had added more rooms to the property i.e. more people, and made attempts at adding more palapas/beds that where a little farther from the amenities we wish to use.

Karisma is obviously trying to expand but at what cost. We hope that they continue to keep the semi-boutique sense to the EL Dorado. There's property next door ripe for expansion and hope that Karisma chooses wisely on behave of their loyal patrons.

Our room was adjacent to the main bar and pool and we noticed an increase in noise late into the evening from our previous visit. Though it didn't bother us too much it was a little disconcerting knowing that management was catering to the hard partier's. I know we weren't the only ones concern about the partier's. Unfortunately, Americans got the blame. I hope it wasn't the case.

Speaking of over indulgence. I found it interesting that some people we talked to made statements about over drinking. My thought was, On what? I thought the drinks where entirely too weak. Again, I am only good for 1,2 maybe three drinks even then I found it difficult to believe anyone could get drunk or an over hang unless they downed several drinks in a short period time which is quite possible since the drinks where watered down.

Although the food and employees are great and the management always cordial. We think that there's need for improvement on the beach and in the service of one restaurant and spirited drinks.

We would recommend the El Dorado Seaside Suites and Spa to anyone wanting the boutique feel in a slightly larger setting with food above par to any all exclusive resort we have ever been to.

We can't say enough how impressed we were with the service throughout the entire resort and how friendly everyone was. Unlike many resorts, it wasn't forced and the staff seemed genuinely happy to interact with you. We also liked that the activities weren't pushed on you and were, for the most part, very low key. This is not a resort with a huge party pool with obnoxious drunks. Our room was lovely and was always spotless. The only thing I would warn about is how slippery the floors were in the room -- so be careful especially with your trips to the bathroom at night after imbibing too much wine with dinner! I had a massage at the spa and it was like nothing I had ever experienced before with the hydrotherapy that was included with my treatment. My masseur was Jacob and he was wonderful. So ask for him!

Room Tip: All the rooms are great because this is a small resort.

Age of reviewers 31-35
Reason for trip - Honeymoon
Room type - swim up
Type of travelers - 'go with the flow' and adaptable

This resort exceeded our expectations based on the reviews on here. The ONLY reason we did not give it a 5 start was the water at the beach. The beach had man-made reefs (breakers) that were an eye sore. The water was nice and clear. Lots of fish swimming around you which was cool. The sand was decent. Funny to complain about sand, but if you have ever felt soft fluffy sand under your feet...this wasn't it.

Pros

- Ubaldo, swim up bartender (block 37**'s). Bartenders switch every two months
- amazing service (most staff are trained to say 'hola' which is nice)
- amazing grounds (lots of iguanas)
- cleanliness everywhere including public washrooms
- bar service on the beach (included)
- room service awesome (included)
- food quality
- decent snorkeling on site and lots of fish in water while swimming
- premium alcohol (favorite was Don Julio Resposado tequila which they keep under the bar)
- beach beds
- no bracelets
- no dinner reservations required (expect gourmet pub)
- general vibe of resort happy
- size of resort (not too big, not too small)
- personal concierge for each block in resort (giving a nice personal touch). Make sure to see them as soon a you get there for general info, excursions and deals on item such as spa treatments and Internet) Also where to find sunscreen, towels and books.
- fresh amazing coconut water (right out of coconut) available (only if requested and waiver signed)

Cons

- Internet not included
- not promised what was offered for honeymoon (isolated)
- wait at some of the restaurants
- deserts weren't great
- having to wake up really early (max 7am) to snag beach bed ( not a huge deal)

We weren't inundated with timeshare people as some have mentioned. We did go to hear the schpeel since we had time. We had a nice offer given to us for going. It wasn't pushy. Exotic Travelers is the company. Look up reviews...enough said.

Overall great resort and would definitely go back. Swim up room was nice, but wouldn't pay the premium for it.

Room Tip: Room 3701 - nice end room at one of the swim up blocks. Swim up's are obviously not private sinc...

Went to this resort as a gift for my 40th. The rooms are beautiful and spotless, food was good in most of the restaurants but not amazing EXCEPT we did splurge the one night and paid extra for steak and lobster - worth the $25! it was delicious. ALL of the staff are always pleasant and helpful.
I'm not giving a 5 as the beach was nice but the swimming area not so nice. Entertainment was mediocre. For the men out there you MUST wear a collared shirt for dinner at ALL times which is a bit much - you can still dress nice & presentable in nice pants and a nice t-shirt but they will ask you to change
WARNING! ask your travel agent how long the bus trip is from the airport - it should ONLY be 1 hour BUT what they failed to tell us was that our resort is the LAST stop so 1 hr turned into 2 hrs - worth paying to go direct.
SAVE your $ - swim up room nice - but not worth the extra unless you want to stay at your room the whole trip - an oceanfront/view room would be far worth more!
If you want a bed on the beach you MUST make sure you get it by 7am :)
Overall - the resort is beautiful clean and friendly. I would return and would recommend.

Room Tip: Go with the oceanfront/view rooms - swim ups not worth the extra $$

By and large I couldn’t have been happier with the trip, and have never been so relaxed. We loved the food everywhere we went, and we are at the Italian place 3 times as my wife absolutely loved the gnocchi. The weather was perfect, sunny and 85 every day. The resort was perfect, very well kept, and every-one on staff was very friendly. Exactly what we were looking for.

I would highly recommend the resort to anyone looking for a relatively low key vacation. We went into town one afternoon, and went to Tulum one morning although the catamaran we booked was cancelled due to weather as it rained quite a bit the evening prior and still wasn’t sure it was going to clear up.

After reading many of the reviews prior ro booking, I was struck by how sky high some people's expectations were, and that's the only thing I can think of that would lead to poor reviews. And while certainly not cheap, everything about the place was very well done, and my opinion provided exceptional value.

My only gripes (very minor) were the 30 minutes we had to wait in line to get our private transfer as it was so busy. They made this into a moot point with the cooler of beer behind our seat once we were in. And the room was at the very end near the swamp so it was as little stinky out front, but nothing out back on the swim up so we didn’t really care. And the room was a little musty, but we expected as much given the tropical location so we didn’t consider that a knock on the place.

I wouldn’t hesitate to re-book at the same resort if my wife wasn’t so set on trying a variety of places, but all in all it was a nearly perfect vacation for the both of us. About as good as it could get in my opinion, when you factor in public air transportation, etc. Thank you very much To Denise at The Tropical Travelers for your help. Everything was clearly handled and communicated, and I will certainly reach out to you for our next trip, which hopefully will become a much more common occurrence.

My husband and I are just back from our two week ‘weddingmoon’ at the Seaside Suite. Had an absolutely fabulous time and would definitely recommend Mexico and particularly this hotel to anyone. We fly from Manchester with First Choice and although not the Dreamliner, the flight was pleasant enough. Cancun airport was perhaps another story with a 2.5 hour wait from getting off the plane to getting on our coach! However, when we arrive at the resort 1.5 later, we saw it was all worth the wait!

Staff – Bowelled over by how friendly they are were. ‘Hola’ from every staff member you passed and had particularly friendly reception staff which I think can be quite rare so was impressed with this. All staff go above and beyond for you and no task is ever too much.

Grounds – So well-manicured and made a perfect setting. We thought the hotel was a perfect size as it was not too big or too small. The coconuts everywhere were fun.

Restaurants – We LOVED the food! It was outstanding and the gourmet inclusive experience was definitely something to write home about! We are quite well travelled staying at many hotels in Australia, Thailand, Cuba, Dom Rep etc and can honestly say the food was the best I’ve ever experienced. Everything was just so delicious, flavoursome and so well presented. Our favourites were Vida Garden Grill (particular for breakfast), Klay Talay (Asian) and Mia Casa (Italian). We did have to wait quite a few times for a table however this wasn’t too much of a problem due to the beeper system which meant you could go enjoy a drink at the bar until they were ready.

Room – Stayed in room 4107 which was a Swim-up Jacuzzi Suite which was an excellent experience. Loved to just roll out of bed and onto the sun lounger outside our room. The area outside our room was fully in the sun from around 9.30am to 2.30pm which meant we would sunbathe there all morning before going for a late lunch and then heading to the beach for the rest of the afternoon. Massive comfy bed, bathroom with his and her sinks with separate toilet cubicle, well stocked mini-bar. All in all excellent.

Beach – Was lovely and very scenic. An abundance of daybeds which were pleasant to lie on relaxing in the afternoon. The sand was a bit stony and gritty which could make it a bit sore to walk on but once you get in the water you don’t seem to notice so much. Also, staff constantly cleaning the beach.

Wedding – Got married at the White Wedding Gazebo which I originally feared would be too open and not private enough as there were just the two of us at our wedding. However although people can watch, it felt very private and we weren’t aware of anyone else. Was an excellent choice and made for some amazing pictures. We also paid to have this set up for a private wedding meal for the two of us after our photos. The meal was amazing and our waiter very attentive. Was a perfect choice for a private wedding celebration. Freida and Patty were great for keeping on top of things on the day. (only gripe was that my husband’s wedding lunch in the separate room that they had given him didn’t turn up so he went hungry until the wedding dinner).

My only gripe about the hotel was that although we got married here (arrived on the Monday, got married the following Monday and then left the Monday after) we were not entitled for to the Honeymoon Package which was apparently available if you upgraded your room. We were told that we could have purchased a more expensive wedding package that included the same inclusions the honeymoon package included however this was an additional thousand pounds on top of what we had already paid for the basic wedding package and given that we paid £998 for the Swim-Up room upgrade alone on top of the thousands of pounds we paid for the holiday plus the wedding package and private meal, we felt it was a bit off that we weren’t entitled to this.

Overall though an amazing hotel and if you’re considering for a honeymoon, just book it!! You won’t be disappointed!

Room Tip: Swim up rooms were excellent but some weren't in the sun for very long. But this was good as it...
