September 2012:

My wife and I chose Eldorado Seaside Suites as our honeymoon destination and we were not disappointed. On arrival we were greeted with big smiles and a cool refreshing towel. Our luggage was taken from us and we went to our meeting room where we were given a lovely fruit punch.

Upon arrival at our room we were really impressed. The room had a jacuzzi and a lazy river. The jacuzzi had been run and there was a bottle of champagne on ice.....lovely touch on both accounts.

All restaurants were great and our personnel favourite was the Indonesian. From breakfast to beach BBQ we had no complaints at all.

The staff at the resort are without doubt hard working and very polite. There is nothing they will not do to make your holiday special. They earn every penny of their tips. The little touches such as the towel decorations really add to a perfect honeymoon.

We booked all our excursions via Pablo and Alberto who are situated on the beach. They are really friendly guys and very genuine.

If you are looking for a honeymoon destination or simply a relaxing warming vacation this is a MUST!

Absolutely loved our stay and we miss it very much.

Room Tip: Too save money choose a basic room as the resort is so nice you will not want to spend too much time...

We stayed in EDSS in Spetember 2012, what a great time we had, we would not go back simply because there are to many other great hotels in Mexico to visit.

Flight out : we booked premium with Thomson, it was well worth the extra money for the extra space, the cabin crew where excellent.

Check in :Quick and easy as you would expect with a nice cool drink on arrival and golf cart to the room.

Room :We had a swim up room, I am so glad we had this as there is a sunbed brigade for the pool side sun beds so you would have to get up early in the morning for those who wanted to lie by the pool or you would need to go to the beach (lots of sunbeds any time of the day).
The room was very clean with a massive bed and lots of pillows, we did read on previous reviews there was a pillow menu so we went off to see the concierge who organised for us to have gel pillows and memeory foam pillows (this was done within a couple of hours).

Food : The best restaurant was Klay Talay and probably Mia casa, we did try room service a few times and this was also good (we had coffee and pastries every morning on our terrace courtesy of room service).

Drinks : The main bar was ok (very hot on an evening as no air con) cocktails good and local beer "Tecate" was good, service sometimes a little slow if they where busy.
Weather : We did expect some rain travelling in the rainy season but only had around 10 mins for the whole 2 weeks, and the rest of the time it was super hot.

Beach : This is not the best beach in the world as it is full of coral (from a previous hurricane) and it is not very wide, but the sea was beautiful, we did kayaking and snorkeling on quite a few days. There is a BBQ most days and again this is ok but prefer to go to VIDA or Sandwicherie for lunch.

Entertaiment : Most people found the entertainment ok but this was not of any interest to us apart from the Mariache band who where fab.

Spa : loved the Spa, we had a couples massage and could have stayed there all day but would be a little expensive to do this.

Reception : cool and calm, it was a nice stop off for a alocholic coffee any time of the day with fresh cookies or you could have champagne on ice. (you can take out DVD's from here if you wold like a quiet night in your room, they have some brand new films not released in the UK yet).

Check Out : Quick and easy with a cold drink when waiting for the transfer coach.

Mexico Airport : Not a great place if you would like to eat before the flight but we where lucky to have lounge passes so went in to the quiet area for sandwiches and drinks.

Flight back : Thomson Premuim again, no issues and failrly comfortable flight back.

Overall a good all inclusive holiday, I would have rated this Excellent but the beach let it down a little. Book your trips through V Aquatics in the beach hut and try to vsist 5th Avenue in Playa Del Carmen.

Dollars in the resort and out of the resort are acceptable and reception will chage these the Peso's if you need them.

You are expected to tip but you do not get any better service if you do or you don't, we tipped quite well especaily the room service and the maid service as this was excellent.

Room Tip: Swim Up Room, no getting up early for a sun lounger

We traveled to El Dorado Seaside Suites for our honeymoon for 8 days. This was my first trip to an "Adults Only" resort. It is definitely different from those meant for all ages. With the exception of the people partying in one of the pools outside our room, the place is very quiet people wise (there is music playing in various places out of speakers hidden in rocks). The resort was filled mostly with couples (a few small groups too) walking down the paths hand-in-hand and the beach was calm with people bathing in the sun reading a book.

We requested the ocean-view jacuzzi suite. FIRST, let me say I don't think there are many true Ocean-view suites. Yes, ours was facing the ocean and there were no buildings between our room and the ocean, however, there are so many palm trees, you can't even see the water. A little disappointing since they did call it an "ocean view" but it was still a nice view regardless. The room itself was immaculate. Spacious and comfortable. It was a little difficult to get comfortable temperature wise though. The AC unit made the room too cold and without it, the room didn't get very hot, just got VERY humid. But, it's the Mayan Riviera. It's to be expected. The only real annoyance was the lights: They are controlled by motion sensors, but only if you have the switch set as so. If the housekeeper or my husband flipped the switch to off, I had to turn the switch on and off about 3-4x while waving my hand in front of the sensor just to get the lights to turn on. ANNOYING!

The food: Way better than expected! With the exception of breakfast, there are NO buffets (not including salad bars). Every dining experience is like eating at a gourmet restaurant. From the presentation to the food quality. Mind you, some are somewhat small portions (I guess it's "gourmet" and not exactly what the average person in North America is used to portion wise anyway). But, you can order every course on the menu and there's always room service if you are still hungry after (also included).

The service: Everyone there was very polite. Rarely does en employee walk by and not say "Hola!". Of course, service in the restaurants and beach servers do work on a Mexican minute scale, so it takes a bit longer than what we were use to for food to arrive and for a drink to be delivered on the beach (sometimes we waited 45 min for a drink to come...and we WERE tipping).

The beach: Not really ideal for leisurely swimming. Once you are in the water, you have about a foot or two of sand, and then it's rocky. They built an artificial reef around the beach so it is really neat to see the wildlife swimming/living around, especially if you get some snorkeling gear, but not fun if you just want to go out and swim. The beach closer to Playa Del Carmen was WAY better in my opinion. Still, it was nice to see the wildlife.

I guess my only true complaint/disappointment was that there is absolutely NO free wifi. I imagine part of it has to do with the fact that it is supposed to be a relaxing/romantic resort but I don't doubt that it's also a huge money grab. Wifi is available in your room for $10 a day, $25 for 3 days, or $50 for 7 days. I purchased it on 2 different days because of important tasks that needed to be carried through via the web on those days, and it was incredibly slow.

Regardless, the resort was beautiful and the staff was friendly. I would definitely recommend this resort to others wanting a quiet, relaxing and enjoyable stay in the Mayan Riviera.

Room Tip: Ocean view is not truly ocean view. We barely saw the water from our "ocean view" room (L...

My husband and I wanted a special place to celebrate our 35th Wedding Anniversary. Beach Bum Amy with Beach Bum Vacations (Travel Impressions) was absolutely fabulous in finding this beautiful resort and making all of our travel smooth. We had such a wonderful time. The staff was awesome and catered to our every need! Our favorite meal was our candlelight dinner with steak! It was excellent! I loved the spa and would have loved to have spent alot more time there! One thing that I noticed was how clean the resort was. The landscaping was beautiful and very peaceful. The beach and ocean were beautiful. We work alot of hours each week and really just needed to rest and relax and this resort provided just the right atmosphere to do just that! Our Concierge couple Pearla and Sergio were so helpful and delightful to be around. We will definately be back in the future and recommend El Dorado Seaside Suites, by Karisma to everyone. Thanks for making our anniversary special!

Room Tip: Rooms on the south side are quieter if you are looking for some rest and relaxation!

We are just catching our last couple of hours of sun before we leave.
Firstly make sure you fill out all paperwork given to you on the plane correctly without missing any boxes (the customs people are very fussy and sent back the people who hadn't done this right until filled in properly)
The transfer once all the people on your coach have made it through customs takes 1 hour and 20 minutes, on arrival you leave your case at reception and are taken to a room for a quick brief on hotel with a fruit punch and passports are photo copied.
To be honest, by this time we just wanted to get to our room, after the long flight.
We ate at Arecifies restaurant on our first night which was very good, then a couple of drinks and bed by about 9.30 as couldn't keep our eyes open any longer, and it is difficult to get your bearings in the dark anyway. We awoke at about 4.30 am and ordered a cup of tea from room service which arrived with some nice cakes within about 15 minutes.
Showered then off to explore, wow it's lovely.
Breakfast at arrecifies which was very good, we were served by Wilberth who was great. Then off to the Thomson welcome reception, which to me if you have been to one you have been to them all.
Throughout our stay we enjoyed all the restaurants including Mexican, Vida, and our favourite the Italian, my most enjoyed meal in there was the lasagne, which is only a sort of starter, so if you are a big eater order a main course as well.
We mostly ate at the sandwicherie for lunch and our favourite waiter was Lorenzo, very funny.
All the staff are very welcoming and attentive with nothing to much trouble and they get to know your name, great you with Hola and are always saying "it's a pleasure" when serving you. Don't know if it was just us but we didn't like the waiter Jesus in the Arecifies ( he always seemed grumpy) and I think they would do well in losing him, sorry but that is my opinion!
The building work didn't really affect us in any way and we are sitting by the pool at the moment and can barely hear it, not sure if it will improve or worsen the hotel as we like just as it is, they are also building a big new lobby which is on the drive down towards the hotel on the left.
The entertainment team are brilliant and I particularly like Brenda, all though they are all fun and leave you alone if you just want to sleep or read.
I went on an ecological tour on a Saturday morning which was interesting , this was with Brenda, and she explained that everything is recycled from the hotel, this is good to see other countries doing this, as that always worried me with all the cardboard, plastic and metal, ending up in landfill.
Well it's nearly time to shower and go now, we so don't want to go go home, and know that you will enjoy your stay here.
I have never wanted to go back to a hotel again as have always felt that there are so many others to choose from, but we will come back for sure.
Oh I nearly forgot, we saw racoons, coati and an anteater while hear and I also enjoyed getting the iguanas to eat hibiscus flowers straight from my hand.

Stayed in August fit 2 weeks. This was our second time and we didn't think the place could get better but it was even better. Rooms amazing, food in all restaurants was excellent our favourite was Mia casa and the tenderloin of beef with Gorgonzola was to die for!! The new addition of a taco cart going around at lunch was great - able to grab a quick bite and eat on the beach! Staff are a real credit always willing to help and ensure you have a great holiday. There are so many but Genaro, Lorenzo and Antonio in sandwichere were excellent as we're Ana and Lucy keeping drinks replenished on the beach!! Great place did not want to leave! The only thing I would change is the plastic sun loungers on the beach need updating with mattresses for comfort!

My wife and I went for our honeymoon in July 2012 and were completely thrilled with 90% of the resort. The other 10% was in no way their fault!

We went with Thomson and that part of the trip was excellent. The pickup from the airport was fine and the hour journey from Cancun was as you would expect. (Definitely nice to have an air conditioned coach!). We had a guy called Matt who was a brilliant help and was at the resort all week for when we had questions about anything or needed to book excursions.

The resort itself is absolutely beautiful. Our room (an ocean view - slightly misleading as there is a long line of trees blocking the ocean are you're still about 40 meters from it) was amazing. Comfy bed, amazing shower, turn down service was excellent (they even made animals out of towels each day!) balcony was small but fine (we didn't spend that much time on it!). Jacuzzi in the room was nice too.

The facilities were amazing. Three of four different pools (each with a bar - some of them swim up bars - AMAZING). Comically the "relax" pool (that didn't have music or sports - for the more calm types) had building work going on next door so we only spend 4 minutes there before leaving but we happily hung out at the activity pool played some water volleyball, watched the zumba, drank many cocktails and read books. There were great beach beds around the pool and there was almost always one available. If there wasn't there was always a sun bed.

Free treats:
We had a free spa (as it was our honeymoon) that we upgraded to get a longer massage, a facial (a bit weird for a guy but fine!), some time in the jacuzzi with champagne and fruit. We also had a free 4 course dinner on the beach one night that we upgraded so that instead of it being us and a few other couples near us, it was litterally just us and our amazingly helpful and kind waiter Edwin! The day after we also had a free breakfast in bed (with Edwin again!) which was a four course breakfast!

Restuarants:
Great selection of restaurants. Italian - good but not as good as everyone hyped it to be - maybe it's because we get Italian food all the time in the UK. The Vida Grill was amazing - did great breakfast too. Klay Talay was quite good although not that much choice - I also got a very scowlly look when I asked if I could have another portion of something - maybe that's not the done thing! La Carreta was a brilliant mexican restaurant. It was nice to have some genuine mexican food. We went there a few times. Good tequila too! Arrefices was good too - not much to say. The sandwicherie was a brilliant place for lunch each day. Simple - burger and chips but lots of options of burgers. We've been craving that since we've been home! We only had once experience with room service when we went on an expedition early in the morning and we needed food at 545 and it arrived at 6 which is when we needed to leave so we had to go. The waiter looked so dejected! We felt so bad! Overall the food was brilliant!

Personal concierges:
A brilliant idea. Basically for each section of the resort there is a concierge who will help with anything. You can get fresh towels from them, restaurant recommendations, spa bookings anything at all! They were so helpful and friendly!

Excursions
We did two excursions. The first was going to Chichen Itza. That was a brilliant culture trip. We had the most amazingly cool guide called Alfonzo who knew about everything. It was fascinating to learn about Mayan culture. It was insanely hot thought and there wasn't that much shade.
The other excursion was more of an adrenaline trip! The "Jungle Expedition". Basically it involved zip lining, abseiling and snorkelling in cenotes. Well worth it if you slightly adventurous. It's not super adrenalined but fun none the less.

The most amazing part of the whole trip were the cenotes - underground lakes. These are beautiful fresh water lakes usually underground. Swimming in them is an experience not to be missed! I would have been so sad to not have got out of the resort and seen and swam in these (chilly) pools. Best bit of the whole honeymoon. (We got a chance to do it on both excursions).

The only negatives were things that the resort can't change! That is the beach is not a pure white sand soft beach. It's super ground shells so is slightly uncomfortable to walk on. The weather for the first couple of days was really cloudy but then it became amazing after - you get epic thunder and rain storms! They don't last long - they're quite fun if you're not scared of thunder! The other thing is that the see isn't pure blue and there isn't much sealife around the beach so we didn't spend much time in the sea.

The final thing is that we weren't too fussed about not having children there but actually having a resort where there were no children at all was amazing and peaceful! Also everything is set up for couples. Tables are for two, hammocks for two, swings for two etc. It's a perfect honeymoon destination!

But don't let that put you off. It was amazing!
Food aplenty, drink aplenty, really nice staff. Just incredible!
I would go back in an instant!

Room Tip: The swim up rooms were cool. If you're going on honeymoon make sure you have a ocean front room...
