We were at EDSS Mar 7-14. This was our second time at EDSS. Last year we went to El Dorado Royale. We like the smaller resort size and beach better at EDSS.

There always are kinks in the trip – but it is Mexico and we sometimes expect the same efficiency typical in the states. Main drawback is the time it takes for dinners, but maybe just try to sit back and enjoy having someone wait on you. Service is sporadic – but as with anywhere, some wait persons do it better than others.

The food also can be sporadic – some dishes are better than others, regardless of the restaurant. Restaurants do not take reservations, but you can put your name on the waiting list and you will be given a pager. Then go enjoy a drink at the bar. This was much better than the reservation system. We enjoyed the Mexican La Carreta and international Arrecifes. We did not like the Vida – too frou-frou for us. Thai was okay – some menu items better than others. Did not care for the Italian – plus they had some menu issues – using older menus. The tenderloins can be overcooked, so be sure to go med-rare if you like a little pink. Make sure you get a current menu or you might get a lamb leg instead of lamb chop. We had lunch at Arrecifes most every day – the salad bar has fresh greens – very refreshing and cooling after sitting on the beach for a bit. (You do have to put on shoes, shorts and shirt for service.)

The taco cart came by about 11:30 – noon each day – up on the path along the beach. Makes a nice snack – some saucy, grilled meat with salsa and guacamole on a flour or corn tortilla. Be sure to grab a napkin or two as they are messy and you don’t get a fork. We also had people bringing out lunch plates onto the beach with a sandwich and some fruit. These are pretty good little sandwiches!

We always ate breakfast at Arrecifes – most days from the breakfast bar. Omelets and eggs cooked to order. Also, great fruit selection. Husband got the Eggs Benedict a couple of times and enjoyed them.

We spent most of the day on the beach – yes we did “towel” a beach bed early in the morning (around 6 am), but we absolutely used it all day long except for a quick lunch break.

If you snorkel, you want to get out before the tide gets too low. For our week, it was best to go out about 11-11:30 am. There is so much to see out along the reef (beyond the “whales” where the waves are breaking). Good spot seemed to be out beyond the old pier. There are also some reef spots a little closer in. Best is to get in on the far right (south) side and swim out toward the middle and left. There are less rocks and the water is a little deeper further south on the beach area. If you bring your own snorkel, borrow the resort fins to better navigate the waters without tiring yourself out.

A couple of times, we walked further down the beach toward the next resort – the Palladiums. I recommend doing this at lower tide – more beach to walk on. Looks like one resort area – I think Playa del Kanteneh - was trashed by the hurricane. But along the beach, you’ll find some corals washed up. There also is a spot to take a dip where the sand is solid and the surf calmer. But you do need to watch where you step as there is quite a bit of debris.

Overall, EDSS is small and comfortable – easy to get around. Grounds are beautiful and make for a good little walk to exercise off some of the food. Breakfast and lunch are pretty good. Dinners are hit and miss – if you find something you like, maybe go back and get it another night too. But it is always fun to try something new! And save room for desserts like tempura ice cream at the Asian, cheesecake or apple dumpling at Arrecifes. EDSS has one of the better beaches in the Riviera Maya – protected by the reef, calmer waters overall, and pretty good snorkeling. We are already planning our trip there next year.

My husband and I have just returned home after spending two excellent weeks at EDSS. After a long 11hour flight it was so nice to receive such a warm welcome, a very relaxed check in, a welcoming drink and we were shown to our Ocean front room all within 30 mins. (2812) The room was wonderfull, the bed was so comfortable and it was so nice to have soft pillows. The food in all the restaurants was excellent. We tried them all and couldn't fault any of them, and there was plenty of choice on all the menu's. Our favourites were the Vida and Mia Casa. All the staff are so friendly and so eager to please. The beach and gardens are beautifull and everwhere is so very clean. We enjoyed our holiday so much we have booked to return in November.
Can't wait.

Stayed at the EDSS feb /march 2008 to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. Had a swim up suite which was fantastic and have nothing but praise for the staff at the resort. The resort, rooms, bars and restaurants were all kept immaculately clean. Food was excellent, Mia Casa and Aricifes the best, but found that room service food was usually luke warm/cold by the time you got it.
The first week of what was to be a romantic holiday, was slightly spoiled by wedding parties of very loud Americans/ Canadians who seemed to take over the swim up bars and shout rather than talk to each other! The second week was much quieter though.
All in all we had a fantastic holiday and would thoroughly recommend this resort. If you're considering booking..DO IT!

We just returned from 10 days at the El Dorado Seaside Suites; we had stayed there 13 years ago and returned because we enjoy snorkeling the reef right off shore. We had a swim up jacuzzi suite and would definitely recommend it for lounging and easy access to swim up bars. The rooms were beautifully appointed and always kept immaculately clean.
The service was excellent and the staff were extremely friendly and quick to remember names and personal preferences. 24 hour room service, no reservation restaurants and no wrist bands!! The restaurants had small vibrating pagers so you were free to wander outside or to another bar while you waited--never more than 20 minutes! The gourmet meals were delicious & beautifully presented. You felt more like you were at an upscale restaurant & not at an all inclusive. The only additonal costs were lobster or wine list, however, very good house wines & champagne available.
The resort is well spread out along the beach and beatifully landscaped to retain a natural beauty and feeling of intimacy and privacy.
The Beach beds are absolute heaven, definitely worth getting up early for! We go to Mexico every year, will surely return to ElDorado Seaside Suites!

Just returned from El Dorado Seaside Suites - it's not heaven, but I could see it from there!!!!! Upon arrival we were met with a glass of champagne and seated, within a few minutes details were taken care of quickly and efficiently.

We had an oceanfront suite which was beautiful and very close to the beach. Pools were great, beach was good, and service was incredible. The staff could not do enough for you. Food is second to none, all served, no buffet styled restaurants. No reservations were necessary which was such a treat. There are 5 restaurants and each one is excellent; if there ended up being a wait to be seated in your restaurant of choice, they simply gave you a pager, and you were free to go and have a few drinks at the bar until a table was ready for you. Staff prepared lunch plates and would arrive on the beach with trays, and most days there was a portable "hot dog -like" stand with great munchies available. Bar drinks were served in big glasses, not small disposable glasses. The only let down for my husband was that bottled beer was not available, just beer on tap.

All in all the staff is excellent, service was fantastic the facilities and meals were top rate and the rooms were beautiful. Many people who had travelled to many all inclusives who were with us, felt that El Dorado Seaside was the best all inclusive they had ever stayed at. I also talked to someone who stayed at the El Dorado Royale - their comment was that it was the same as the seaside, just much bigger. I really enjoyed the small size of Seaside, as there were no huge crowds to contend with.

Can't wait to return.
