We met Felipe, the tour guide, chef and teacher at the markets (fish, meat, flower and produce) at 10. He then gave us a tour of all the markets while telling us the history of Chile and Chilean cooking. He bought a few items needed for our day of cooking and then we took taxis to the cooking school. The school is in a house in a fun area of Santiago. The space is great for group cooking. We then learned how to make several dishes, and a variation of a pisco sour. The food was great, the lessons helpful and the overall atmosphere, fun. We then sat down to the meal with different wines for each dish we made. He was generous with the food and the wine so we left well fed and a bit tipsy. Felipe was a great instructor as his passion for food was contagious and he had a good sense of humor so made the whole afternoon enjoyable.

We met Felipe at Mercado Central to start our market tour and to purchase the things we needed for the meal that we would be creating. The market portion of the day was a little disorganized and it wasn't clear to me what we were doing exactly. I would have enjoyed the market more if it didn't feel as rushed but we did have some time to capture some cool pictures along the way. ADVICE: Wear walking sneakers/shoes that you don't mind getting a little messy (the fish market).

Once the shopping was finished we split into two groups and took a cab to the house where we would spend the rest of the afternoon cooking up some delicious dishes. It was very hands-on and overall a great experience.

I would recommend this food workshop.

Felipe was an excellent guide around the Central Market and showed us how to make a delicious 3 course meal in the kitchen.

We ate as we cooked and also learned a lot about Chilean people, Chilean food and everything in between. The Pisco sours and wine tasting were also a great addition to the day.

Having previously attended cooking classes, I was disappointed that we did not get more hands on cooking time. 7 of us made the meal, some got to do more than others. At home, I would get far more cooking practice in classes that are run at a cost half the price of these.

Overall, an expensive but worthwhile experience in Santiago

A great way to experience the culture and cuisine of Chile. Felipe was the perfect guide given his love for and knowledge of El Mercado Central as well as cooking. The market was amazing, offering anything and everything imaginable, made better by being with someone familiar with the offerings. The cooking class, held in a well equipped and lovely kitchen, was very hands on with many tips and great information shared about the recipes and ingredients. Pisco sours and Chilean wines paired well with the food and Christina was a helpful gem. We had a blast and would recommend highly!
