Scandic Fornebu is located if you are a business traveller and have to visit any of the many companies who had chosen to locate their offices in this area, some 10 km away from Oslo downtown.
With its architecture and the scenery around, the hotel offers the feel of a French minimalist movie from the 70's which some travelers may actually find appealing.
Literally 100 m away from the Oslo Fjord waters and nearby a lovely small seaside park, the hotel designers unexplicably opted to build it so very few of the rooms have seaside view. More often than not you might end in a room facing another room or one of the nearby souless office buildings or (if you are that unlucky) - the inside of the hotel lobby. Yes, they have some rooms with windows opening above the reception area and the lobby bar.
The standard double room has similar design - minimalist but functional. It was not very spacy and with some very questionable decisions about clothes storing and decoration. But again – some travelers might like that too…
Being on a short business trip, I had no problems with it - the room was clean, bed was comfortable, the linen and towels - also clean. No minibar or complimentary coffee but coffee and tea are freely available in the lobby. The laminate floor I found unappealing and cold.
The restaurant is a large, seaside facing area with very friendly staff but somewhat unimaginative breakfast menu. For my four-day stay we got unchanging number and type of products but in sufficient quality and quantity. The good thing about breakfast is that it starts as early as 6.30 which any business traveler would appreciate.
Reception service was fantastic - very friendly, very helpful staff. As an example - they gave out umbrellas for free to any guest that asked when a light rain started... Unfortunately, if you want to exchange your cash at the reception desk, make sure you do it during the day shift – the night shift will not be able to help you due to some internal regulations.
The hotel also has a small shop nearby the reception desk and there is also a small grocery store across the street. Make sure you find time to visit the small burger joint nearby, the Sjoflyhavna Kro, right behind the hotel, at the old seaplane airport.
The Wi-Fi connection is free of charge to hotel guests and is available literally everywhere in the hotel and offers impressive speed. If that is important to you – have no fear: it works splendidly.
Overall - a good hotel for business travellers, far away from Oslo Center & airport but close to HQs of several global companies. Would not recommend it for leisure stays or city breaks. Families with little children might also not find it very suitable.

Room Tip: Ask for a seaside view room!

A nice modern hotel with a design interior. The staff is friendly and speak very good English. The hotel is situated just outside Oslo with a great view on the fjord. It only takes you 15 minutes by bus to get into the center of Oslo. The restaurant in the hotel has a limited menu but the taste is good. The breakfast is excellent

Travelled for the weekend with my parents, and the location at Fornebu turned out to be a very good choice as the weather was really nice and sunny. The Scandic hotel is situated by the fjord on Snarøya in the middle of a business area. It's a conference hotel, but very good for a quiet and relaxed weekend as well. I guess it will be even better when the boat to Aker Brygge in the center of Oslo starts to run from the pier very close to the Scandic hotel.

Check in was smooth and the front desk staff was very accomodating and gave us rooms on high floors with sea view. My parents stayed in a suite and I had a quite standard double, but very clean and modern with excellent bed. The hotel is environmentalfriendly.

We enjoyed a predinner glass of cava in the bar, and the service was very attentive and friendly. The lobby is very modern with furniture in different chairs and colours that gives a warm and inviting atmosphere. Some quite lively groups of people around, and we enjoyed it.

Dinner was served in the restaurant at a table by the window. It was already dark outside, but nice anyway. The food was explained to us by the waiter, and we opted for beef for my father and to different kind of pizzas. The beef was perfectly cooked and came with grilled cocktail tomatoes and oven baked small potatoes with oil and herbs. The wine storage was placed in the middle of the restaurant, and gave us a chance to see the wines on display. We opted for a bottle of Valpolicella Ripasso, and it turned out to be a very good choice with our food. Desserts and coffees were good as well.

After a good nights sleep, we had breakfast with a lot of choice. The buffet was constantly refilled and the bread were freshly baked. Again the service was excellent and very friendly. We didn't eat our lunch at the hotel, but we will do next time.
The area around the hotel is good for strolling along the seaside, and I guess it's really nice during spring and summer.

My parents appreciated the service and the very accomodating teammembers we met all over the place in Scandic Fornebu. We will return for sure.

This hotel is located at the old airport Fornebu at the outskirts of Oslo. A taxi from the central station in Oslo will set you back £ 30-35 and takes about 10 minutes. The bus is going frequently, but will of course take more time. So its not exactly a tourist hotel. I stayed for a conferance and was very pleased. Good service and spaceous rooms. The location is a bit boring, but that is not a problem then you are working.

The hotel is close to IT Fornebu, Aker Solutions and Fornebu Arena (former stadium for the footballteam Stabæk).

Room Tip: Even if I had a room towards the road I slept well.

Small, simple comfy room nearby the IT Fornebu complex, Telenor offices and the Statoil office. The room was comfy, the bed and linens felt good and warm for the cold night stay, however the bed size might be too narrow by Asian standards if you received the twin beds (two single beds) - I got the double bed so it was alright.

The room comes equipped with a small desk and a single-seater sofa for placing your belongings. The clothes rack is small (enough for a couple of shirts/2 jackets) but the room is equipped with an iron and an ironing board.

With the previous reviewer, there is no ventilation within the room, and had to open the window on occasions for some fresh air. The thermostat on the wall was not working (with lights, but no display).

The bathroom is basic - only basic toiletries provided (shampoo and body soap), no toothbrush/shaver etc (available for purchase at the 'lobby shop'). Water pressure was just alright. The light in the bathroom is operated by motion-sensor and the floor of the bathroom is heated :)

The breakfast menu was basically the same for the 6 nights I was there. Perhaps some change in menu would be great in addition to the usual breakfast items.

Laundry service available. An Ice machine was located outside my room. Unfortunately no bottled mineral water/drinking water provided in the room. Wifi service was good but unfortunately I encountered some problems while connecting to my corporate VPN (this issue was also faced by my other colleagues).

Pros: Quiet, small and comfy room. Within walking distance from IT Fornebu and the bus stop towards Oslo city center (Ruter bus number 31). Great view from outside the hotel of the surrounding fjord. Good (free) wifi service. A 'lobby shop' by the reception for buying your drinks and other basic necessities.

Cons: Limited dining options, no room service. No air circulation in room (ventilation system down?).

Transportation Tips: Taxi ride to the hotel all the way from the airport is EXPENSIVE. Take the express train (flytoget) from the airport to Lysaker station and get a cab from the station to the hotel (about 5-6 mins ride).

To get to the city, take Ruter bus number 31 from the bus stop nearby the petrol station at the corner around the IT Fornebu complex. Fares is 30 NOK via in-app purchase by using the Ruter app on your smartphone (payment via credit card) or 50 NOK on board the bus.

Room Tip: Chose away from the lift, ask for a view of the fjord. Higher floors and opt for double beds if poss...
