“Pattadkal - basis of temple Architecture”
Reviewed July 27, 2012

At around 8 am we reached Pattadkal. Initially we planned to go to Badami, get freshened up and then come back to visit Pattadkal. So we surpassed Pattadkal without stopping. But after 10 Kms we realized that we would be ending up spending the whole day in hot Sun. Hence we stopped and took a U-turn back to Pattadkal. All of us brushed our teeth on the road. Ajay suddenly disappeared into some small store far away - just to get the day’s Newspaper (Owner too needs a proof).

Good that we stopped by - since it was just 9 am, there were hardly any tourists. We spent an hour going around the place. Since most of you all have already written a lot about the place..I chose to post more pics than write up. My Story of Pattadkal can be read through the Pictures.

We found few a ladies selling traditional North Karnataka breakfast..Jowar Roti & Curd with some pickles..we thought of having a quick bite. Day Started with brushing & breakfast on road. Since we ate well..we had enough energy to cover Aihole enroute Badami. I really felt very sad at the very first sight of the Aihole Monuments. This was the first time I have ever seen the Monuments which form our Heritage in such dilapidated condition. Local Kids were our guides and they explain about the temple. But since we were very tired we couldn’t spend much time there and started back our journey to Badami.

Finally reached Badami, checked in to a hotel, got freshen up and all of us slept off. We had lunch at the hotel and again relaxed for a while.

Around 4 pm we went to Badami caves. Must say, what an amazing place. I have always seen it in movies but never ever knew that it was Badami Cave. We started climbing up. Awesome Sculptures on the Cave walls. Above all I was Awestuck by the sight of the lake, at the foothill of the Main Caves. We spent the evening around the lake and trekked till the topmost part. Here at a point I could see Sun Setting on one side and Moon Rising at the other side in a straight line. I can never forget that experience.

“In the heritage's lap”
Reviewed June 8, 2012

Very good place. Not for people looking for fun. The hallmark is the architecture of the temples and bears testimony to the once great empires to have ruled the lands. Amazing rock temples and architecture. Worth a visit

“A treat for art and history lovers”
Reviewed March 15, 2012

I visited this place in october. It has beautiful temples around 1300 years old. The place is clean and not very crowded. It is located in a rural area, so accomodation and food can be a problem. It is better if you stay in a city like Bijapur and visit it. Ticket price is around 10 rupees and 25 rupees if you are carrying a video camera.
