“We loved it!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 20, 2010

Our large group had a great time at the Tesoro. This was our first time to Mexico and we were definitely not disappointed. We had amazing weather for the entire week. So many great memories - watching the gold medal hockey game in a little bar with the Americans (sorry USA) with 2 for 1 margaritas) , para-sailing, snorkeling, dancing the macarena with the locals in the lobby, and releasing the sea turtles on the last night there. I don't know why some reviewers complained about the noise because the entertainment was over by 11 every night. The entertainment staff was incredibly hard working. Do they ever get a day off? Hola, Jesus and Elias! The Mexican people were so friendly everywhere we went, even when our plane was taking off, the baggage crew waved good-bye to us. I would go back to the Tesoro in a heartbeat. Don't believe anything negative you read about this hotel because none of it is true. These people would probably complain at a 5-star hotel, also. The food was great, the beach amazing, but rough, and the entertainment was a blast (although too short)! A great time was had by all!

We absolutely loved this place! After booking and then reading reviews, I had my doubts. But, what can I say... absolutetely loved it!!The food was fresh, tastey, and lots of selection. The front desk staff more than accomodating! The entertainment crew worked extremely hard to produce quality evening productions as welll as daytime. Beach service very efficient. Rooms clean and comfortable.Very clean bathrooms, both in the rooms and the public facilities. The location was perfect. Shopping and restaurants all within walking distance. Pool ....well this is an infinity pool...can it be anything but good?? Noise?? Very quiet. The lobby bar offered entertainment from about 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. Nothing later. However, the bar does remain open until 1 a.m. After that, there is the 24 hour snack/beer bar to enjoy. And we did... numerous times! In fact, our group of newly acquainted friends were reminded kindly that we had to quiet down after 11. Apparently things had changed from the 3 a.m. loudness previously mentioned in reviews. All good!
We spent 2 glorious weeks at this resort, and not a problem or anything to complain about at all. Knowing that we were booking a 3.5 star hotel ( and by the way this should be amended in our opinion to a 4.5) our expectations were exactly that. No, there was not a coffee pot in our room. No, there was not a public computer/ internet. What we found, however, was the most inviting, friendly atmosphere where friendshiips were formed, with other tourists from neighboring countries, as well as the Mexican families sharing this resort. This is our second trip to the Ixtapa area, and about the 10th Mexican vacation we've taken. And we will be back again. And we will be staying at the Tesoro. There are so many other things I could elaborate on. Like the baby sea turtle release program that Gio looks after. One of the most touching experiences ever! Thank you to all the wonderful staff who made our vacation one to set the bar! This hotel will become a fast favorite !!

My husband and me picked this hotel because it was on sale and boy now I understand why! We have two small children and don't feel like this was a "family" hotel. Sure this hotel is older (probably made in the '70's) but they haven't upkept it what's so ever! Your door to your suite is the same door everyone has at home (bedroom and bathroom) - not a thick safe door. So really, not so safe! The first night we stayed there, my daughter had a cough so I gave her cough surup. The next morning, I went to the bathroom and there were BUGS EVERYWHERE....and I mean everywhere! In our travel bag with our toothbushes in it as well. I threw out the surup, but every morning they kept coming back. EVERY night and day after, I had to wrap our toothbrushes up and have the travel bag closed at all times.
Also, little did we know that they play loud music from 9:00-1:00 in the morning EVERY single night. We complained the next day, but they claimed that they didn't have any other suites available (as if!!). People that didn't have time shares, didn't pay for junior suites, and so on, were put on the second floor (like us)...usually in a good hotel, if you aren't happy, they acomidate you. IF we had known that they played loud music (especially with children!), we wouldn't have booked here.
FYI, for families (if you chose to book here)- don't leave your child unattended in your balcony suite....my son is 4yrs old and the railing goes to his shoulders! and trust me, it is a LONG way down!
The only things we were happy with was the service by the waiters and the food! My daughter fell at the pool one day and a lady that worked there got to her before I did and picked her up while a male got ice for her. The people there are really kind.

You get what you pay for. This is a very nice 3-star hotel. It is not plush and fancy. Everything about it, except the fabulous beach, is modest in comparison with the more expensive and fancier resorts, and we are fine with that. Don't need to feel like we are royalty. We booked this place because of the attractive all-inclusive price, and we received very good value.

We were pleasantly surprised with the quality and variety at the buffet restaurant, which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Lots of fruit and veggies, and an interesting assortment of Mexican dishes that went way beyond the usual. The poolside lunch and snack restaurant was mediocre, and the ala carte restaurant, open only for dinner, was spotty. We ate there twice. First dinner was good with attentive service. Second dinner was disappointing with almost no service.

We liked the smaller size of the Tesoro and the fact that many Mexican families were guests there. We like to make connections with local people. Saturday night was a hoot, with everyone dancing to a good DJ in the hotel lobby. We felt like being a part of one big human family.

My wife and I spent 2 weeks here ( feb 16 to march 02 ) and enjoyed every minute. We are already thinking of going back.
Enjoyed there buffet and restaurant. Staff were very nice, And if you want sun and quit this is the place to be. I rate the hotel between a very good 3 1/2 to a 4.
However if I have one suggestion for the hotel, they should redue the Lobby. Make it more cozy and welcoming.

We just returned from our first trip to Mexico. We stayed at the Tesoro Ixtapa for two weeks (all inclusive) and had a wonderful time. Our room was spacious and was very clean. We were most impressed with all the staff. They were such hard working, efficient and friendly people. They made our stay most enjoyable. The quality of the food was excellent. There was always a good variety. I loved the fruit and the vegetables!! For those who love meat there was always a good selection of beef, pork, chicken, fish, etc. There was good access to the beach where we went walking every day before breakfast. I felt that we really did luck out because it was good value for a most enjoyable stay. Yes, we would most definitely stay there again.
My only complaint would be the loud music at the poolside.

After reading some of the reviews I was so afraid I had made a huge mistake- people were complaining about the food etc. We spent last week there and we were so pleasantly surprised!! The location is perfect- about midpoint in walking the beach. The food was just fine! We enjoyed the the Ala Carte Restaurant- One night it was Mexican and one night Italian. The staff were so accomidating- anything you needed they were there for you.The maids did an awesome job. The room was very nice with a balcony which overlooked the ocean. You will love your trip! Make sure you treat yourself to a massage on the beach!
