I've been to Ixtapa in March 15+ time and always stayed at the Krystal, a couple doors down from the Emporio. Due to a general decline in conditions at the Krystal over the years, we decided to try another hotel but wanted (a) to remain in a central location on the beach and (b) NOT do all inclusive. The Emporio was a good choice and a very good value (we just booked direct with the hotel). We paid a bit more to have a Junior Suite, which had a living room separate from the bedroom (although there is no actual door bewteen rooms). No balconies is a downside, but the large windows help to compensate and we send little time in the room anyway. Friends whom we were with had a master suite and the Presidential suite, both of which were quite phenomenal, but very expensive relative to regular rooms. We spent all our time at the beach (vs. pool), and getting chairs and a palapa was not a problem. There is not consistent wait service on the beach, but we aren't the type of people looking for frequent wait service. We'd frequently go to the bar late in the afternoon and ask for buckets of beer to be delivered, and the staff did that without complaint. We did have the buffet breakfast included with our room, and it was average. Made to order eggs were good. The restaurant could get a bit crowded, and the fresh OJ was not as good as I've had at most other places (seemed watered down). We did not eat other meals at the hotel because there are so many other great choices in the area. The hotel's front desk staff was very responsive and spoke English well. The hotel was clean and well-maintained, although our friends' room did lose water one morning. Overall, a very pleasant stay.
