When planning our annual vacation in Ixtapa I was excited to hear that El Tiburon de la Costa had opened a second restaurant in town. We were willing to take a cab out to San Jose to eat at their original restaurant but glad now that there is one right in Ixtapa. My wife had the Camerones in butter and I had the Camerones Rellenos and both were excellent and a real value at 110 and 120 pesos respectively. The generous portions come with rice, mashed potatoes and a lettuce salad with avocado slices along with a basket of bread sprinkled with cheese. We both left feeling very full and satisfied with a great meal. I wish I could remember all the names of the wait staff that we interacted with (there were at least four of them) but they all made us feel very welcome. They talked with us and tried to help us with our limited Spanish. The restaurant is a little off the beaten path and located in the Ixtapa Palace Hotel lobby a few doors down from Emilo's. What it lacks in ambience it more than makes up for with value, quality food and personal attention from the staff. Give it a try as you won't be disappointed.

I dragged our group of 9 to this restaurant based on reviews, and we were very happy with the food and prices, but had issues with the dining experience.

First, the food was very good, but we did need to send our tuna steaks back for additional cooking as they came out too rare inspite of our instructions. When they came back, they were nice and hot and delicious. Prices were very reasonable for everything.

The restaurant is inside/adjacent to the Ixtapa Palace lobby, although they have tables in a small courtyard and open-air "hallway" - so you can get the outdoor feel. We took a table within the "hallway" - which was a mistake. The lighting out there appeared to be a bare halogen bulb directly over the table - very harsh and unpleasant.
The owners could perhaps situate the tables between these ceiling bulbs to provide some relief.
The tables in the courtyard would have been more pleasant - I didn't see what the ambiance inside the restaurant proper was like - but probably also better.
Another complaint was the noise. We came when there was a live musician singing at the entrance of this "hallway". He must have a following, because a group of people clustered in the tables right in front of him while he sang. Unfortunately, they had to do this as his singing was in direct competition with the very loud zumba music coming from the 2nd floor fitness center that is co-located in the hotel lobby. The resulting ruckus was terrible. The restaurant owners need to do better planning - the zumba music by itself is bearable. But they need to schedule any other entertainment after the fitness classes are done.

If they can fix the problems with the atmosphere, they'll really have a winning combination.
We will try this again next year, with our fingers crossed that they can correct the problems by then.

The new location in the Ixtapa Palace hotel has been there about 3 months, and it appears to already have a loyal following. We ate there 4 times during our visit, and were never disappointed. The camarones rellenos are particulary exceptional, good sized shrimp wrapped in bacon and then grilled crisp, with a tangy cheese sauce. Each time we visited, one of the owners came to the table, and always thanked us for our visit. A nice personal touch.

El Tiburon has a restaurant inside the Ixtapa Palace in the heart of Ixtapa. We met the very well spoken owner and the food was great and so were the prices.
