We went to Zihuatanejo for our honeymoon and did not want to spend the entire time on the beach, so we decided to look into some tours of the city and countryside. My husband came to Trip Advisor to look for others' reviews and found Tours by Luis. We called him and he was very quick to accommodate us on when we wanted to do the Island Tour. We met Luis and his wife when they came to pick us up at our resort and they were extremely friendly and Luis speaks almost perfect English (which is nice when you really don't know alot of Spanish). We asked him if we could change the tour from going snorkeling on the island to seeing the countryside. He said that was no problem at all and we set out on our way. The tour was amazing! Luis explained to us the history of the village and about the surrounding areas. We then visited a coconut plantation, a tile factory, and then a small fishing village where we took a boat around the lagoon and then ate at a seaside restaurant. We had so much fun and recommend Luis to anyone visiting the area! In addition, the price of the tour was actually not that expensive compared to the ones we had already been on. Overall, very good priced and a great time!!

We booked with Luis and his family and it was well worth it. Luis's son picked us up for our transportation to Ixtapa, Island. On the way, he stopped to show us some of the local wild life and he even told us all about the area and local hotels. He was very informative and friendly. My husband was a little under the weather and Luis's son was very sympathetic and accomadating. We got to the island and we met Luis and his daughter. They were both very friendly and helpful as well. When we were done at the island Luis drove us back to our hotel. He told us all about his self and the area. It was a great trip that was made better by Luis and his family.

We met Luis on the beach and were very impressed by his friendly personality and excellent English. We inquired about a combination tour - sort of "country and city tour". Even though he was not able to accompany us on this particular tour he assured us that his cousin could speak English just as well as he. And Antonio did not fail us! He was a wonderful guide and was a fountain of knowledge about everything we saw on the tour. We rode in a comfortable air-conditioned van and he had bottled water (or Cerveza) for everyone! We visited a coconut plantation and learned more about coconuts than we ever dreamed! Then we visited the Family Rodriguez at their rustic brick and roof tile factory - not a big mechanized building, but a one-man operation with a big mound of a special clay that this hard-working gentleman had dug out by hand. He then mixed a scoop of this clay with water, and with his hands and a simple frame formed a flat tile which when slid off onto a convex form and transferred to the ground to dry in the hot sun, produced the beginning of what would become one of those red roof tiles that we see everwhere on buildings in Mexico and in the southwest. Mr. Rodriguez was a very proud man and we were so priviliged to see such an example of the wonderful people of Mexico!
We also visited the fishing village of Barra de Potosi where we had a wonderful lunch of Spanish Mackerel. And then the highlight of the trip to the game preserve of El Refugio de Potosi. We saw lots of iguanas and macaws, and were even able to hold a boa constrictor and a little porcupine! It was amazing!
I've only mentioned a few of the things we saw and enjoyed on this tour, each one special in it's own way. Antonio did a superb job of explaining all that we saw and really gave us a wonderful glimpse of what I would call the real Mexico - far from the pampered version that we enjoyed on our vacation sitting under a palapa with a cold iced drink in our hands. All in all, a wonderful tour that we would highly recommend to anyone visiting Ixtapa or Zihuatanejo! Gracias Luis, and a special Muy Gracias to cousin Antonio!

We've come to Ixtapa 19 years and were mostly immune to the hawkers on the beach - fishing, Ixtapa island, horseback riding, etc.
However, Luis is a very friendly, low key guy with a good sense of humor and honest demeanor, so we agreed to try something new - a day trip to Barra de Potosi - a very small community south of the airport on a huge empty beach. He picked us all up at the hotel in a large tourist van and first drove us up to an Ixtapa overlook in the hills. Then on to the Refuge at Barra de Potosi - highly recommended - see reviews elsewhere. Then we took a short boat ride through the mangrove swamp at the end of the beach, followed by a fantastic lunch at one of the little restaurants there at the beach. I think the name was Enramada Teresita. It was simple grilled chicken but was fabulous.
I could have stayed all day at every place we stopped, but at least we got a good sampling of what's available at this close-by location.
Throughout the tour, Luis was wonderful - excellent English skills, great stories and information and great sense of humor. Very attentive to all the details.
We saw him on the beach the next couple of days with his lovely wife and child - came over just to say hi.
I highly recommend him for any tours he may offer. Hope to see him next year too.

This was a fun, low key tour with a very personalble guide, Luis. He has excellent English, which is rare in Ixtapa. He took care of everyone making sure even a six year-old boy was able to safely snorkel and enjoy the fish. The day we went, there were few people which made it nice. I understand it can get really crowded, especially on Sundays. Luis knows the area very well as he has grown up in there, and has spent many hours in the water at Ixtapa Island. Lunch was included, as was the boat ride. He took us by the iguanas and crocodiles on the way back which was really fun to see them in their natural setting, not in a zoo. This was a worthwile tour if you don't know Ixtapa or need help snorkeling. The snorkeling gear was not include in the price of the tour, but was not too expensive and easily acquired at the beach.
