We met the owner of this restaurant (Juan) in the boat on the way over, so decided to go to his restaurant. We got loungers at the front of the restaurant and had a very enjoyable afternoon. The pina coladas were delicious and we also had shrimp which was good too. It is a really nice place to spend the afternoon and the Juan is really friendly and helpful, he even gave us a ride back to the mainland in his boat so we could stay longer (the last public boat leaves at 5pm). Would recommend this restaurant, just make sure you get off at the second jetty around the side of the island, most people get off at the first one but it is better to stay on for the second stop.

First, how to get there. Most people going to Ixtapa Island naturally get off at the first pier, just because it's the first. So stay on till the SECOND. Once you get off, it's 2/3 of the way down the beach, about a 3 minute walk. Aside from the name, you'll see the flags. You'll be solicited by every restaurateur along the way, but ignore them. It's worth going to El Paraiso Escondido. In short, the food and drinks are terrific and the staff will do everything to make you want to return. The owner, Juan, is a super guy who will take you back to the mainland if you should miss the 5 pm shuttle back. For large groups, call ahead and give Juan a heads up. If you've got kids, even better. There are zillions of "wild" deer that are so tame that you can feed them by hand, not to mention the bunnies all over the place. This is more than just a restaurant experience.

OK, so this isn't our first rodeo at Isla Grande, also known as Isla Ixtapa, we've been there numerous times over the past several years and to a lot of the restaurants there. While they each have their own attributes, Paraiso Escondido is in our opinion, the best!

Getting here. OK, if you are visiting at either Ixtapa or Zihuatanejo you can take the bus, combi vans or a taxi to Playa Linda which is beyond the Isla Ixtapa area by the main road, your not traveling on dirt roads or going to be taking any risks getting here. Once at Playa Linda exit your vehicle and walk through the gauntlet of shops and vendors to the beach. Stay on the path out to the water taxi dock (taxi aquatico) and buy your ticket out to the island. It's only about 1/2 mile distant across protected waters behind the islands and if it's rough seas they don't go out. IMPORTANT, be sure you tell the operator you want to go to the furthest drop off dock (muelle) because there are two on the island. The closer one is in the larger-busier bay. Go to the second drop off, exit and follow the path around to the beach, continue up the beach at waters edge past several other restaurants until you see Paraiso Escondido or "Hidden Paradise". Go on in, find a table or lounge and make yourself at home.

Shortly you'll be attended by Tina (Tequila Tina), Paco, Frank, Francisco, Chuey or one of the other excellent and friendly staff. They are not pushy, but accommodating. Juan, the owner will be around as well, mostly overseeing but Tina and Paco have worked a combined 48 years there and know the ropes and that speaks well of how Juan treats his employees. Juan loves to entertain his guests with music and has an excellent selection, requests are appreciated!

I've seen some excellent photos of examples of the dishes their kitchen prepares so won't repeat that, but will just say the food and service is great as is evidenced by the numbers of repeat customers we meet there, even from La Ropa! We love the water there, far superior to what you'll be experiencing at either Ixtapa or Zihuatanejo beaches, typically southerly winds come up in the afternoon and the island shelters the inside bay and it typically remains nice and calm. A great swim beach as you can see. Attire is strictly "beach casual". Paraiso Escondido serves both sides of the island, the snorkel beach on the outside and inner swim beach.

The island is isolated from the mainland, there is no water, electricity, or gas there, but you can get Internet if you have data on your phone. Each restaurant has to carry it's supplies out with the staff each morning about 9:00 AM and they leave around 5:00 PM, taking everything with them. A clean up staff lives on the island and for security. They pump salt water up to wash and flush with and it is very clean, no problems. The island is also inhabited by a small assortment of animals: deer, rabbit and even an armadillo has been seen! All quite tame. In the late afternoon you can ask for vegetable scraps and go around back to feed the ones that have come in.

Paraiso Escondido, aptly named. Good food, cold drinks, great service and a view to die for!

My family (wife and daughters 8 and 12) spend the day here in late March 2017. The kids enjoyed feeding the deer and rabbits which frequent the restaurant's periphery. The hotel has access to beaches on either side of the island with one having good snorkeling and one having better swimming. We spent the day under a palapa on the snorkeling beach. We collected hermit crabs in the tide pools, saw lots of tiny crabs and even a small sea snake. I am an avid diver and snorkeler and found the snorkeling poor, it is really not much of a reef. We had lunch at the restaurant. The kids had breaded fish and breaded chicken which was excellent. My wife and I had coconut shrimp, one of our favorite dishes. The shrimp were amazing, I would highly recommend ordering them. We also had some tortilla chips with guacamole and salsa/beans.

In general we had a great experience here. I would recommend spending the day here.
