After my wife and I spent a lot of time reading the different reviews out there about this resort, we had mixed feelings but were extremely impressed by this resort. The taxi took us from the airport to the resort, and there was somebody there to take our bags to the reception area. We go through the check-in process with no real problem (we were doing an RCI exchange). They said our room wasn't ready yet since it was early but offered us a different room in the same building. Since it was only 3pm and check-in wasn't suppose to be until 4pm, we all decided to wait for our room so we just sat by the pool and had some drinks. We stayed in the Master Sands, the room was amazing. We had an awesome view of the ocean and mountains. The mini-pool was key for laying around in the hot afternoons. We had the all-inclusive so we didn't use the kitchen, but it had all the amenties one would need.
The buffet had a different them for lunch and dinner each night. The Moon Bar, and the Bugamblilas hand good food. At the El Faro there was a saxaphone player playing dinner to set the mood.
The activies staff was very friendly. There was a travel "agent' named Daniel who was very helpful in planning and organizing off resort activities such as sailing and horseback riding. We had our own cabana on the beach right next to the ocean. The waiter, Antonio was excellent. He always came back asking if we wanted anything else without having to flag him down.
The resort had plenty of daily activities. We even were able to release baby sea turtles to the ocean.

We would definitely go back again.

These people offer a variety of vacation packages & ownership options. Some include free companion airline tickets, which subsequently turn out to be worthless. They do not stand behind what they sell. There is absolutely no customer service follow-up. Once they have your money they simply do not care about you. The workers & servers are all pleasant, polite & efficient. The ownership/management/sales level personnel leave a great deal to be desired and I would not trust them as far as I could throw them.

Loma del Mar is a new thalassotherapy hotel with just 16 one- and two-bedroom suites. The hotel is located on a golf course and is only a quick five-minute walk to the beach. Loma del Mar would make the ideal hideaway for a true health-and-well-being holiday. With special programs designed to reduce stress, help with weight management, or just pamper you, it’s a great choice for those keen on working on themselves (or having someone else work on you!) while on vacation. Suites were roomy, with a blend of traditional Mexican and Mediterranean decor. Note, however, that there are many stairs on the property, and no elevators. This property would make for a good combination with one of the beach resorts in ZIH.

Loma Del Mar was wonderful. I would recommend it to anyone. The service, accomodations, food was perfect. The only think that I would have done different was book it for longer than 3 nights.

We are a family with two teenagers. The rooms are set up with a master separated by an outdoor kitchen and a family room. The kids room had 2 beds and their own shower. The design was very thought out and furnished nicely.
Service was outstanding with coffe and rolls brought to the room every morning at the hour of your choosing.

The Pacifica started out on the wrong foot for us. Upon check -in (@ 4pm) we were told our room was not ready yet and we were able to sit @ the pool and enjoy the all-inclusive drinks/snacks. After checking twice with them, our room was finally ready 2 hours later. Then the busboy took us to a room that someone was already staying in so we had to wait additional time for him to find us a vacant room. This made a very bad 1st impression on us. The rooms were clean and maid service did a great job daily of making us feel at home and creating different creatures with flowers and towels. However the sheets/beds/pillows were terribly uncomfortable. I think the sheets were about a 50 thread count! But the air-conditioning worked nicely and the views of the beach and ocean were amazing and our room had a nice balcony. However, this resort is located on the hillside, therefore there are LOTS of stairs and hills to get to any of the rooms or down to the beach/buffet/pools. They did have shuttles to take you to your room, the beach, etc. If you don't mind lots of stairs, then this place would be acceptable but I certainly wouldn't recommend it for the elderly or handicapped. The food was nothing special, basically buffet with a moderate amount of choices at each meal. El Faro, which was the "nicest" restaurant with a great view, is supposedly gourmet, but you can only eat here once with the all-inclusive, and Bugambilias is only for dinner but they change the menu every other night and on certain nights only a few items are all-inclusive. There is the Moon Bar, which was really quaint and nice and serves sushi, but we just stumbled upon it. They don't advertise or really let you know about this place, and once again, only open at night. Poolside waiters will offer a drink early on, but then you have to flag them down for anything else during the day. Supposedly tips were included with the all-inc. but if you wanted decent service, you had to tip more. Overall, I felt the food was a bit disappointing. I wasn't expecting so much of the food to be "American" such as burgers, etc. The activities crew was very good and friendly and there was always some form of activity for all ages to participate. The location of the Pacifica is nice in that it is at the end of a great sandy beach about a mile and 1/2 long so the view from the hillside is nice. The photo on their website of the fitness center really doesn't do justice to how bad it is. There were 4 very cheap cardio machines and the room was tiny and stifling hot. We enjoyed Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo, but would never stay at the Pacifica if we go back.

This is a slightly biased review, as my family have been coming to Pacifica for almost 20 years as timeshare owners, but I really do think Pacifica is a lovely place and want people to hear some good things about it! There is no doubting that in the past 10 years or so their marketing has been racheted up to slightly annoying levels, but one should always remember that it is primarily a timeshare operation and that's what these places do. However, we have never encountered a member of their staff who was pushy or rude and they are always in good humour. Our advice is to take the free breakfast, amuse them by listening to their pitch, and go along your way.

We actually did buy into their new Aqua scheme a few years ago after one of these said breakfasts, and although we are still waiting for some of the options they promised to materialize (golf carts, elevator) we are very happy with our decision to buy into Aqua and I would highly recommend it to anyone who comes to Ixtapa on a yearly basis. The buildings are brand new and lovely, and each room has two beautiful balconies overlooking the ocean as well as a personal infinity pool and two comfy lounge chairs. The bathrooms have "outdoors" rain showers which initially spooked me out a bit, since you can actually hear people taking showers when you're sitting down by the pool, but I got used to it and actually found it quite nice. This all being said, it is important to remember that the quality of the Aqua units are much higher than those of their original units ("Club" and "Golf") but before all the new fancy places were built we stayed for years in a Master Club (Unit 12) and found it perfectly agreeable. If you have never been to Pacifica before, do not get your hopes up if you know you are not staying in one of the new units ("Sands" or "Aqua") because it will likely not impress you. However, just go to the balcony and take in the view and then you will understand what makes us old-timers come back to Pacifica every year!!

As other reviewers mentioned, the rooms are always cleaned exceptionally well every day and the cleaning staff are very polite and efficient. The beach staff are very nice as well and we always have our favorite waiters like many other reviewers. Because we have been timeshare members for so long, we have gotten to know the management and are able to swiftly resolve the inevitable problems that arise in any kind of resort. We have never encountered a "bad apple" at Pacifica and really do appreciate their hard work, and we reward them likewise. I think the thing to remember is that these people rely heavily on tips, and with the exchange rate being so favorable to the dollar, it really doesn't hurt to add a few extra pesos on to what you might normally tip.

With regards to activities, it is incredibly important to anyone who has never been to Ixtapa before to realize that this is NOT Cancun or Acapulco--you come here to sit on the beach/by the pool and chill out. Sure there are a few places to visit up and down the coast but the primary activity of those coming to Ixtapa, and even more so Pacifica, is to escape the cold weather and relax. I've spoken to a few people over the years who were somewhat disappointed by the lack of activities, but I think if you have the true picture of what Pacifica is going in, you won't be disappointed when you get there. If you are looking for something more, look elsewhere.

That being said, the activities staff are ALWAYS running a volleyball game, egg toss, water aerobics, cooking classes, etc. I don't know how they do it, as they show up to work every day with the same level of excitement as if they were doing it for the first time! When we were children we definitely took part in these activities and found them to be fun, but this is not particularly a huge place for children--if anything, there always seem to be more Mexican families there than "northerners" during the usual January-March time period that I've been there. If you do want more excitement/activities, consider the Club Med.

All in all, if you are looking for a nice place to stay with friendly staff and exceptional views, I would absolutely recommend Pacifica. I chose to write this review because I thought some of the other reviews were a bit unfair to the Pacifica I've known for almost 20 years. Of course there will always be minor problems along the way, but in those 20 years we have never had to deal with anything that would make us second-guess our commitment to the resort. So long as you are not expecting the Ritz or Club Med, I would highly recommend the Pacifica resort and would bet money that you would have a very enjoyable stay!
