We just returned. We felt totally safe on the premises as well as in Ixtapa, The weather was perfect, mid 80s, the beach is certified by the govt. and also perfection . The resort was busy, immaculate, the room cool and comfortable, pristine. Every person who worked there was friendly , polite, knowledgeable, efficient. Their English was much better than our poor Spanish. We do not travel expecting to have locals speak English, but it did make everything easy . They were there right away with any concern. Dumb ones on our part, i.e. couldn't figure out how to drain the sink . A person was there in two minutes, just had to tap the drain plug, a new style for us. We all had a great laugh. We read a review complaining about theft of money from a guest room , I would guess a rare occurrence. There is a safe in each room , common sense, they should have used it. We had no sense of unease about leaving things anywhere. The place has been remodeled, and they are very proud of how it looks. They should be. Decor is cool blues, creams, white, marble. The pools are huge. Breakfast is amazing, the dinner restaurants certainly offer something for every one. The bars are busy ,the bar tenders are friendly and polite. We saw very few who over indulged, so even though the drinks are free and excellent, it was still family friendly. There are time share sellers available, they were not intrusive. Since we were not interested, we just politely said ," No thank you, " the first time we were approached, the rest of the vacation we were left alone. The only down side was the lack of courtesy by some patrons who didn't honor the dress code ( which is very reasonable and makes for a respectful atmosphere in the lobby etc.) and the silly race to claim a lounge by the pool. We observed the poor manners, a towel would be placed at 7 am, the person often didn't show up until one or two , keeping it from others. Selfish. Plus the lack of courtesy of removing the towel when done, again keeping the lounge from others. We used the lounges on the beach , no towel monkey business, much more space and fun. I can sit by a pool anywhere , but not the warm Pacific . This may not be the most elaborate, or expensive resort in Ixtapa, but you certainly have everything you need, in a warm inviting atmosphere, with a million dollar view right in front of you . One thing, it seemed busier than many of the other hotels along the beach, an indication people know a good value when they see it. Envy those of you who are planning your stay . You will have a memorable vacation. Adios ...

I do not understand people who say that this hotel is no good.
This hotel is very very good ,I admit it have some flaws, like they do not know what a food allergy is ,they say they have 5 ''a la carte restaurant '' and a buffet ,it would be true if there were all open at the same time, but there are never open all at the same time,a buffet should always be open at noon ,and at night it should be open ALL the nights, contrary to some people say about
animation, there is animation only at day time and at the pool,no night show except for saturday and friday .
the staff is very friendly and helpful ,i was with a group of 28 peoples ,and Ricardo Santiago,
was there for us,thank you Ricardo.
every one of my group like the hotel, the food, etc etc
no timeshare bugging us,didn't see one,
please be careful about the big waves, very dangerous.

Room Tip: beware of huge waves

In a nutshell, the Sunscape is one of the most fabulous hotels I've had the pleasure of staying in. After having been subject to a tirade of bad service and rude personnel on some previous visits to Mexico, the staff at the Sunscape really have 100% reversed my opinion. The concierge, called Rene, was one of the most helpful and pleasant people I have encountered in Mexico. Nothing was a problem, all doubts were solved right then and there... and all with a truly outstanding manner and level of customer service. It's been a while since I've experienced that level of enthusiasm, friendliness and eagerness.
The all inclusive package deal was also great. The restaurants were beautiful and the food tasty, the Italian in particular having some delicious dishes. The cleanliness was impeccable and the waiters and waitresses alike always with a smile and good advice.
I would not hesitate in booking a return visit.

Room Tip: We had a room with a sea view, and it was stunning. The sunset was the best of all. The sun was like...

This was our third time to Ixtapa, and we brought our three teenage children. The Sunscape Dorado was the perfect hotel. Located in the middle of Ixtapa, with easy access to the markets, to the city bus, to the club, to restaurants, and of course in the middle of the never ending beach. Rooms were cleaned perfectly, and to tell you the truth it is the best hotel room I have ever stayed in. We had a family suite and our beds were located next to the outside walls, and i never heard the noise of the hotel once. Only the waves, which was very soothing. Our bed was actually a king sized bed.

The food was ok, nothing fabulous but the staff on the resort were outstanding. They remembered all five of our names, the service was wonderful, and they were beyond friendly and accommodating. We participated in the free leisure activities such as the bike ride, tennis, basketball, ping pong, aquasize, water polo, the only thing we really missed was boogie boards.

If you are a beach or pool sitter, I noticed that the majority of the guests got up at 5:00am to put towels on their chairs, now this would be my only pet peave of the entire hotel. I noticed that sometimes these chairs stayed empty almost all day. And the couple of times that we did stay at the hotel, our family just simply sat in a chair awaiting to be kicked out by the "savers" but miraculously those people never showed up the entire time we were in the chairs. Strange. So my suggestion to travellers is QUIT saving your chairs, walk down, park it, and when you are done take your towels with you because you are really just peaving of people whom actually could sit for an hour or so.

None the less the Sunscape was one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in, and we haved stayed in Dreams, and Westin's previously.

Thank you Juan and Mario, you were a hoot!

My husband, myself, our daughter and two friends just returned from a wonderful trip at the Sunscape . My husband and I travel at least twice a year and have stayed in some beautiful all inclusive resorts. The Sunscape was clean, the staff were very friendly and always ready to help. We were on the 15th floor and had upgraded to a family suite with wonderful ocean views. Our king size bed already had a foamy on top of the mattress which made the bed very comfortable. The mini bar was re-stocked daily and there was never a shortage of towels and it was nice to see larger size ammenitites (shampoo etc) We bring our own because normally the bottles are very small. The food was very good and nicely presented. If you wanted to order more than one dish there was no problem. There were 5 restaurants with at least 3 al a carts being open each evening. We didn't have to make reservations and only waited the first evening (only due to the fact we were checking out the pool bar). The breakfast buffet was extensive and mimosa's (champagne and OJ) were also served in the morning. The swim up bar is adult only which is also a bonus. It was nice to see brand name alchol. (Bailey's, Grey Goose, Disaronno, Corona etc) There was not a lot of entertainment in the evenings which was okay with us. There was plenty of activity just across the street in the plaza.
No issues with time share people, in fact we weren't even approached. They did have a desk in the lobby if you wanted info. Very few vendors on the beach which was very clean and great for walking. A must do while in Ixtapa is Ixtapa Island. A short cab ride to Playa Linda and then a short boat ride to the island. (Less expensive than taking a tour). We were at LiLi's restauant (blue and orange table cloths) and the seafod was amazing. You get a lot of food for your buck and they bring your beer in big buckets with lots of ice to keep them cold. Eric was our host at LiLi's and spoke excellent English. Great swimming in the ocean and snorkelling was not bad.
I would definetely recommend this property.

Loved the place. Only thing is the floors are slippery and if you are not careful you will fall. The food was delicious however they need another buffet for evening. They have the breakfast buffet which was so good but alot of a la carte restaurants. No reservations needed which is good. The rooms were clean. Lots of room to move arounbd and store your clothes. The noise from the dance hall across the street was a little loud but nothing they can do. The beach was amazing. The vendors come up to the wall of the resort but once you say no they move on. The staff was so helpful and friendly. Some did not speak english but you manage, you're in their country and the main people at the front desk spoke perfect English. The towels on the chairs was an issue. People are supposed to hand their towels in at night but some sneak them up to their rooms and put them on the chairs at 200am. Like the fact no bracelets, just have to give your room number.

Room Tip: Good to higher floors.

We have stayed at the Dorado for many years-always in January. We are not overjoyed with the AI but since we prefer not to leave the hotel for breakfast and lunch anyway, the evening meals and entertainment(plus cost) are the only differences for us. The rooms have all been redone, are very clean and the staff is very prompt to make any adjustments you request. Breakfast buffet is great. Lunch we have always eaten at the now Blue Water Grill and when we first arrived in January they had no sandwiches on the menu--more meal type choices--but the sandwich menu came back--but no club sandwiches nor tuna salad which hopefully they will also add. The evening meals we feel do need improvement. First-they were having grass problems in the Garden area(first time in all of our years this has been an issue) so Fiesta night, Carribean night, any entertainment evenings were held inside in one of the salons on the mezzanine. We did not care for this arrangement---even if the grassy area was unavailable, outdoors makes all of these events more enjoyable. Last year they had entertainment at the Mexican restaurant with the stage put up in that area and it was fine---or moving them to the beach would have been fine --- we(and many other returnees) do not want to be indoors for these events. The Italian Buffet held once a week in Windows(breakfast restaurant) was very good both times we were there. Oceana is still having service problems this year as they did in 2012 also. The BlueWater Grill has a nice evening menu and the service is good. We went across the street to the restaurants for several evening meals and found most Dorado guests were also doing this. Wonder if they should consider a plan with just breakfast and lunch and perhaps a certain number of evening meals included as many people seem to feel the cost was too great when the evening meals and entertainment doesn't meet their expectations. We will return but they do not have all the bugs ironed out in their change to AI as of yet. The beach palapas and pool chairs seemed to be more of an issue this year than in recent years. When we arrived they were not permitting people out of the hotel until 7AM to reserve either area then they relaxed this and said IF you stay with your towels you could go out earlier and by the time our 2 weeks ended(even though they were trying not to let people take towels to their rooms) many chairs by the pool were "toweled" by 5AM and no one showed up for hours to use the chairs. The palapas were not taken as early but again some mornings towels had been left all night in that area and were not picked up. They did have you sign up for the palapas starting about 7AM and we had no problem but seems to us it was reasonable to say people must stay with towels until 7AM and if they don't, security should definitely remove towels from both areas. Great weather and another enjoyable vacation but some changes need to be implemented.
