When our flight home from Zihuatanejo was canceled due to mechanical issues we were worried about where US Airways would put us up for the night in Ixtapa. We were tired, just wanted to get home, and didn't want to spend the night in some Ixtapa dive.

But, when we checked in to Sunscape Dorado Pacifico, we and the kids (14, 16, 18) were thrilled! Waterslides, a location right on the beach, trampoline with bungies for doing flips, and wii games on a giant outdoor screen. My husband and I enjoyed the all-inclusive meals and drinks, free wi-fi, and free morning lattes.

The beach is pristine, with beautiful waves, clear water, and views of the islands off the coast. We had the dinner and breakfast buffets that were full of ok choices, though not "gourmet" by any standards. The all-inclusive food and drinks were hassle-free.

We took a quick walk from the hotel to a few stores, just to see Ixtapa at night. Looked like fun, with a large market lit up and full of people. Coming from sleepy Zihuatanejo, it looked way more action-packed.

The beds were pretty hard, the decor a little "dated" (think Florida in the 80s), and the food was only so-so. But if you want a fun family hotel with lots of stuff for young and old, the Sunscape Dorado fits the bill.

And, if it's a free night from US Airways, even better!

Room Tip: Try to get a room facing the ocean. The ones on the side only have a "peek" from the balco...

This was our 1st All Inclusive vacation and have to say we had a ball. I read many of the reviews before we left, and was not sure what to expect. I have to say the reviews were right on the money. Ixtapa is a wonderful location and the weather was ideal. There is plenty to do and the cost is minimal. The views from our room was a million dollar view, we had a suite and was well worth the extra cost. The resort is family friendly and there are a lot of children, never had an issue with any of them enjoyed watching them have fun and they were all polite. The entertainment team does a wonderful job keeping them engaged. If you’re not a kid person, probably not a place for you. The Resort is best guess 90% Mexican occupancy and very few spoke English. I have no Spanish speaking abilities, and found it difficult to communicate to some of the other guest at times. I never felt uncomfortable about the communication challenges, everyone was friendly and understanding. The staff did always have someone with some English abilities around. Timeshare salespeople were onsite and very nice, we did the presentation and got the Sunset Cruise (a must do by the way). Timeshare salespeople on the street and beach were aggressive and annoying; at times I had to be more direct to get them to back off. The elevators were an adventure at times, just minor inconvenience and we had fun riding them because you never knew where you would go, but always ended up were you needed to be. Food was good, we enjoyed DeMarios best. The Bartenders made great cocktails and the bars were impressively stocked. The staff was so kind and attentive they made you feel like part of the family. Everyone from Simon at the pool bar to Antonio on the Entertainment team were great, too many to mention. They made the holiday so special and are a big part of the reason why we would go back. It was a great trip and would highly recommend.

First time in an all-inclusive with no bands on your wrists or reversations needed for speciality restraurants. Both of these were never a problem. The Sunscape resort is very clean and the entire staff was very friendly and helpful.
We were with a group of 8 adults and 2 infants which as a group could be problematic but never was as the staff were very accomodating. I would highly recommend this resort for a family as they provide a variety of options and activites for both young and old.
Food and drink was very good. Portions in the themed restraurants were fine , except if you are a big eater. In this case one should order 2 meals which was never a issue.
Being located higher up, the partial view rooms were fine as the ocean was visible from the patios doors or balcony. The matresses were on the hard side and the hotel provided a playpen more extra small matress for the infants which was appreciated.
I would definately return to this resort again.

Room Tip: Partial view rooms higher up provide at least a 50% view of the ocean. The other 50% is obsured by a...

Travled to the Ixtapa Sunscape Dorado Pacifico in early Dec/12. There are good & bad points about hotel.
The good: Great location & beach/Service was usually excellent & friendly, always wanted to try & assist you/No wrist bands or signing of bills/adults only restaurant/ daily news letter/ lots of different activities to do: tequelia tasting, NFL sports nite, casino nite & the list goes on/ mini bar stocked daily/ clean rooms & hotel areas, beds comfy/ a great place for families, lots of things for kids to do/ beach & pool bar service/ wonderful spa/ no reservations for restaurants/ turtle release program (probably one of the most special things I ever saw)
The bad: Time share people hound you (we had to ask them to stop)/ service in restaurant at nite is terrrible/ had to get up early to get a beach chair (no fault of hotel)/ daily news letter should have what is going on in town not just resort activities/ food was hit & miss: breakfast & lunch buffets good but nite restaurants & buffet were not so good (ate several dinners across street)/ spa is overpriced.
Overall the resort is very good, you do not want for anything. The staff is what makes this resort, we got to learn more spanish & they got to learn more english. Had a great time & would recommend to anyone.

Room Tip: Upgrade to an ocean view room.

Positives:
- very good service but you need to tip them
- great weather all year long
- nice beach

Negatives:
- food is really bad everywhere
- unsafe facilities
- old hotel
- Ixtapa is not as developed as other beach destinations in Mexico, dont expect to find good restaurants, shopping malls etc
- dont waste your time/money going golfing, the only 2 golf courses in Ixtapa are in very bad conditions. Better to go to Vallarta if you are interested in pmaying golf

Traveled the week of Dec. 10. Everything was wonderful, Housekeeping did a great job, rms were always cleaned early. Restaurant staff and bar staff beach service all great. Enough spoke english to help get through the rough spots which were few. The only bad spot is the Vacation Club crew they were always around just had to learn who they were and avoid them. Many Mexicans are there with their families. You know it is a nice place if that is were they choice to go on their vacation time. They were all nice did not make you feel out of place. It just became much more crowded. Hope to return next year. The perfect location for perfect weather.

We recently spent a week at this resort hotel. The staff was exceptionally courteous and helpful. Rooms were very clean. Not all restaurants were open every night, but they all provided great food and service. No reservations were required which allowed us to eat at our convenience. Food was excellent. Primary focus was on quality--not quantity.

Drinks were not watered down and premium beverages were available. Room service was outstanding. We went on fishing excursions on five days, and each morning we were provided complimentary box lunches for that day. One day before leaving for fishing we called room service and asked that our in room refrigerator be restocked someday that day. Within 2 minutes someone from room service was at our door with an iced bucket of beverages.

The rooms do come with a slot for your room key which activates the power and A/C. If you don't leave a key in the slot while you are away, your room will be that much harder to cool to your desired temperature.
