My Daughter and I stayed eight days Feb 7 to Feb 15 Room 1912 ocean view, Breakfast was good all the other foods were good the Italian restaurant was OK we knew what to order the service was slow. Great location on the beach, everyone very friendly felt safe staff was vigilant
lost my cell phone got it back no problem, pool and beach seating are a problem not enough seating its a logistical fight to procure your seat for the day if that's what you wanna do, lost electricity last day there kinda crimped the day asked for room comp for that day didn't happen! We are considering returning again next February, we hope that management will extend an olive branch otherwise we have other offers we do like the place though we will see, our cabbie Pepe from Zihuat was the very best find a good cabbie and stick with them, it is so worth it!! Pablo

Room Tip: Ocean view or suite pay the extra to avoid noise from Rumba Caliente across the street or bring ear plugs

Will be back "Home" on 3/2 our 12th year of going to Ixtapa..and it has been the Dorado every year! Never a complaint, if I had to come up with one it would be that we've had to change rooms a couple times because of the music. But they have always been very accomodating to us. Can't wait to get back "Home" for a week!! Looking forward to seeing the staff, hoping Ceasers still there! Def. one of our favorites, and excited to seeing all the changes!!

Room Tip: Away from the Krystal side!

We stayed Jan 17 - 24th. We were in 1818, king size bed, great ocean view.
Most food at the restuarants was good, especially the seafood, but as you read on other reviews, forget the Italian. Service was poor, food was poor, its needs to be straightened up, or closed down. Since management hasn't figured this out yet from reading other reviews, maybe we need to keep hammering this information to them. MANAGEMENT - THIS RESTUARANT NEEDS SOME MAJOR IMPROVEMENTS!!!!!!
One nite the music from the bar was turned up too loud, we could feel the bass up on the 18th floor. On a call to the front desk, we were told it would close at midnight. It seemed to bother a lot of guests, for few people at the bar.
We were offered to attend their 90 minute sales pitch for time-sales but didn't. Speaking to folks that attended, they could spend $6,000 for it, but they would have only saved $200 on their stay, had they purchased it. As with many of these, it doesn't work for most people. Most folks get pushed to buy these, by hard sale tactics, but these don't make sense for us.
Most employees around were very friendly, coffee bar was great. Security was excellent, we never felt unsafe here. Rooms were comfortable and clean.
If you want a stiff drink, drinks may be included here, but you wont get a buzz, as there is hardly any alcohol in them. Thats okay for us, as we are not real drinkers, but its important to some folks. I guess go buy a bottle and make your own drinks.
There is a computer in the lobby you may use, for free. Most folks would use for a short time period, not long lengthy times, so it was easy to quickly to get in and check your email.
One of the biggest problems was at the pool; folks would put towels and books and shoes on lounge chairs to save them, but were hardly used through out the day. So if you go, and there are items on the chairs and no one shows up to use them, just move their items. One guest would save a dozen chairs for his family early in the day, but they were never all used. I know this is a common problem, but when you want to go to the pool and relax, and there are no chairs, its frustrating.
We would have no problems staying here again, there were minor issues, but overall we felt we had a great time there.

My husband and I stayed at the Dorado Feb11-18. This was our 3rd visit to Ixtapa. We had stayed at the Barcelo and the Park Royal. We found the staff to be very friendly, always smiling and really enjoying their jobs. Overall we found the food very good, very tasty. We did have a problem with the Italian restaurant. My husband ordered the shrimp and calamari appetizer and the shrimp were raw. It was returned twice and the third time it was cooked. We also ordered a veal dish and there was no veal although they told us there was veal in the pasta. We are sure it was a pasta dish that they brought by mistake. Although it was very tasty it was not what we ordered. The food at the Oceana and the Blue Water grill was very good and we had no complaints. We chose not to go back to the Italian place. One of our concerns was that the resort was watering down the alcohol. I have no problems with having weaker drinks by the pool as some people can get carried away but we noticed that when we ordered a dark rum it did not taste right, and one night we had a Kahlua and it was definitly watery. We also had a Baileys on ice one evening and although it came out of the Baileys bottle it was not Baileys.(we bought a bottle in town) Please do not think I am a heavy drinker which I am not but when you display "premium" drinks then that is what I expect. We have never ran into this problem at the other all inclusives. I think management need to address this problem. If costs are too high buy a cheaper brand, make a weaker drink but don't water down the alcohol itself.
Overall this resort was good and I still cannot say enough about the great staff!

Room Tip: We stayed on the 17 th floor with an ocean view. Would not go any lower than that. The ocean view room was very nice.

We stayed at the Sunscape Dorado Pacifico Resort from January 28th –February 11th and it was our six stay in Ixtapa. This was our annual February winter trip and our third year in a row to Ixtapa. The resort had a real nice atmosphere, the grounds were very clean, the staff was fantastic and the facility itself was the cleanest resort we have ever been to in Ixtapa. This resort just turned over to an All Inclusive resort on November 1st and there are a few growing pains that go along with change…… The weather was very good but not great like other years. We had rain drops two days of our trip but we made the best of it on those days with shopping in Ixtapa and ZIH. The temperature was in the high 80’s and low 70’s every day. The breeze off the ocean made it very nice to walk the beach and sleep at night. Once again we know way we keep going back to Ixtapa because of the beautiful sunsets!!! The management team at this resort is top notch and they really take it personalable to make sure they talk with you about the resort. I was impressed to see Mr. Jesus Garcia Mendoza the General Manager walking the halls and sidewalks of the resort answering questions from the guests.

Airport/Flight: Flight was a one stop flight out of Milwaukee through Houston on Continental. Not a lot of leg room but it was a small plane and that is what is to be expected. You have to pay for all alcohol drinks and snacks if you did not bring your own snacks. Beer/wine was $7.00 and the snack boxes were $8.00 (credit or debit card only). No troubles at the ZIH airport. We paid for a private taxi and that cost was $35 for the ride to the Dorado. There was beer available right outside the airport for $3 a can.

Check-in/Reception: We arrived at the resort at 3:15pm and they had a problem finding our reservation. First they had us only down for 7 nights (not 14) and they had us in two double beds not a king bed that I requested three weeks prior to arriving. Luckily we had all of our paper work and we were moved from 1916 to 1418. When we arrived in 1418 the toilet leak and the sliding door was very hard to open up to the balcony. We decided to just stay in the room for one day and meet our friends that were already there by the pool. The next day I met with Paul at the reception desk and he told me there was nothing available near our friends on the 19th floor with a king bed. So I told them I really wanted a king bed for a 14 night stay so please fix the follow things in the room – toilet, sliding door and add another mattress foam pad to the bed. After that inquiry Paul surprising indicated that room 1618 two floors above my room was open and can move immediately…….. So we moved and the room was perfect and very clean!!! The one thing that stood out at check in there are no AI bracelets you have to wear around your wrist or no towel cards for the pool or beach.... 

Rooms: After a full day of moving we finally moved to a nice room (1618) with a beautiful view of the pool and ocean. We had a king bed (as we original requested) and six floor balcony. The bathrooms are a nice size and well stocked with towels, soaps and conditioners. The walk-in shower with built-in tile seat was nice and had shower gel and shampoo and conditioner. There was a hair dryer in the bathroom but my wife indicated it was not great so bring your own if you have a hair problem (got very hot). There was plenty of closest space with shelves and a few drawers in the dresser. They do stock you refrigerator every day which included diet coke, coke, orange, soda water, water and bottled beer- 7 oz. Corona’s. We had an IPod/alarm clock and a flat screen TV in our room. You also have a safe you can use and it was the best in-room safe we ever used on vacation. My laptop did not fit in it but I left it out all of the time charging and no one ever touched it. This was the first time my wife did not complain about the bed after 8 days so the king bed was hard but very comfortable with the extra pillows on our bed. I did think it was a nice touch to leave an activity/restaurant sheet in everyone’s room each night. We were only forgotten twice in our 14 night stay. I would recommend rooms on the 14th or above with the room numbers ending in 18-11.

Pools/Beaches: The beach in Ixtapa is the best to walk or run on. There are many beach loungers to choose from but they are usually taken by 9:00am or so. It was nice to have an insulated mug for the beach; the beach does have beach service (Virginia). What is nice about the beach it is approximately 1 ½ miles in length and very flat so it makes your walk or run very enjoyable. By about noon everyday the beach will get very hot. There are a few places on the beach for massages ($20) and one place open in the afternoon for a drink or two (in the old Carlos n Charlie’s). There is one large pool (there is also a small round kid’s pool by the kids club) that is very nice. They have water polo, water volleyball, walk on water, balloon flights and water aerobics daily. There are also two slides that many kids and even adults used (including me). This pool also has the swim-up bar and it situated in the perfect spot for afternoon sun….. There are two places you can get your towels replaced near the beach and adjacent to the Jacuzzi (water is luke warm at best). One of the nice things about the resort is that there are no towel cards; so you did not have to worry about losing your towel card and paying for a new one. Hopefully during your stay you will not have the problem with kids (weekends only) taking over the swim-up bar area!!

Bars: At the Pacifico resort there is the lobby bar, swim-up/pool bar and the small beach bar. The lobby bar has a very cold atmosphere with a few bars stools it opens at 5:00pm and closes around 11:00pm. The pool bar opens at 11:00am and closes at 6:00pm. The beach bar opens at 11:00am and closes at 6:00pm and reopens at 8:00pm and closes at 1:00am. The bartenders and bar servers at the pool and beach work very hard and will make anything you request. If you go to the swim up bar make sure you ask for the Ramón do Special (shot). One of our favorite pool servers is Antonio and he works his A$$ off!!! The lobby bar needs a better atmosphere at night because it seems so cold in the atrium area. The beach bar at night was OK but not enough bar stools and better music when the seafood restaurant closes. The biggest complaint I had was they ran out of a lot of liquor stock (high end), white wine and tap beer daily!! Hopefully they can correct this problem in the future because it was a disappointment many nights when there was NO Bailey’s for an after dinner drink or white wine. I also think the beach bar or swim-up bar needs to be open at 10:00am even for a soda. It is a very nice touch at the breakfast buffet that they offered champagne and OJ – mimosas, we did ask for a soda at breakfast because I don’t drink coffee and was told not until 11:00 am when the pool bar opens.

Food: The food was very good to fantastic!!! We enjoyed our breakfast buffets at Windows that opens at 7:00am every day with fresh omelets (Desindra), made to order eggs, pancakes, crepes, donuts, fresh breads, and fresh fruits (and even bacon). If you could not find anything you like for breakfast you are a really picky eater. We did have a little problem with the toasters but they were going to replace them. If you did not want a full breakfast there was a small coffee counter (Coco Café) in the atrium that served lattes, coffee, donuts, fruit cups, and small sandwiches. For lunch there was the outside restaurant (no buffet) and hamburger pool grille that offers hamburgers, pizza, nachos, hot dogs and popcorn. What I thought was nice because the sleeveless shirt (not allowed in any restaurant) you could order off the outside restaurant menu right at your beach or pool lounger!! For dinner there were always two-three options to pick from and no reservations are accepted. They usually had a theme buffet or the outside restaurant was open or there was the seafood beach front restaurant, sushi restaurant and the Italian restaurant. The only restaurant that requires long pants for guys is the Italian. What we really liked is that the resort slipped a activity/restaurant sheet each night under your door to indicate what activities were going on during the next day, what restaurants are open, massages specials and the drink of the day (Miami Vice, Bahama Mama, Dirty Banana, Long Island Ice Tea, etc…!!! If we had to rank the dinner restaurants we would pick (1) Seafood - Oceana, (2) Italian – Da Mario, (3) Bluewater Outside Restaurant, (4) Theme Buffets including the Mexican, (5) Sushi. I do think the theme buffets need a little help. We have been to the Presidente, Tesoro and Barceló & we thought they had a bigger variety of food and the shows were better. I would like to thank Cecelio the Asst. Food & Beverage Manager to take time out each day to see how we enjoyed the food or restaurant.

Entertainment/Activity Staff: The daytime activities were typical at an AI and the activity staff work hard trying to get you involved. I know Salvador, Alberto, Jesus, and Ramiro work hard all day trying to get you to participate in biking, water aerobics, tennis, water & sand volleyball, bocce ball, bag game, balloon fight, bingo, and daytime classes which included tequila tasting (really interesting with Carlos from the staff) and cooking classes with Chef Victor’s. The one day time activity is a staple at the resort is walking on water in the pool. It is a rope ladder that is stretch across the pool and you try to walk/run from one side to the other. It was really fun but I did see a few people the next day with bruises on their hips and legs from falling. Also the rope ladder is putting a lot of stress on the concrete that they are tying off the rope with. The nightly activities and shows need some help. The resort is very boring at night and with the lobby bar being so cold in atmosphere something needs to be done to give the tourist something to do at night in the resort. We usually went across the street to Frank’s or General’s for fun with good music and a lively atmosphere. One night we did seat and watch the Blind Side movie (different movie every night) in the Explorer’s Garden on the big screen…..

Other: I do have to say the Dorado put a great Super Bowl party on the beach. It was 100% times better than what we experience the last two years at other AI resorts in Ixtapa (the kids club made some great super bowl football cookies).

Across from the resort is the Ixtapa outdoor mall and we went over there a few times and did a little shopping, bought a few items at the grocery store (Scupples) and had lunch and/or dinner out. Franks is still there and is still has great pizza; the Beer Planet has moved across the courtyard and was OK, Emilio’s pizza is still good but there mixed drink prices are high and the new place we found was the General Sports Bar & Restaurant and we had a great time there watching any sporting events you wanted too, homemade salsa was great, pizza was good and the beer was very cold. We did go into ZIH a few times and met our friends on LaRopa for a full day. We had great shrimp tacos at Rosie’s and sat on the beach My Villa Mexicana (next to Patty’s)… We took the taxi right to the hotel and the cost was $7 to ZIH or $12 to LaRopa Beach. The taxi back to the airport from the Dorado was $21

Overall: We enjoyed our stay the Dorado Pacifico very much and if the price is not too inflated next February (2013) we will return and hopefully with a small group of 5 couples (hope you are listening Mr. Jesus Garcia Mendoza). The one thing that needs to be addressed is the inventory of the liquor stock and beer; the morning towel game with people not using saved loungers until noon or later; I would like to have sleeveless shirts back for breakfast and lunch; and something better at night in the lobby bar or even having the bluewater grille bar open at night with music. I would also like to say the staff was fantastic and the on-site managers were always around if you had a comment, complaint or just to say hello. We found that the Assistant Food and Beverage Manager Cecelio was very friendly, hands on and observed him pitching in to help out where ever he was needed. Thank you!!!!

Recommendation: All in All we would give this trip a 9 1/2 out 10 and we would go back to the Dorado again in a heartbeat. Like to send out a big hello to our new Canada, Ohio, Wisconsin (Madison, Dells, Eau Claire, EK), Minnesota, and Iowa friends. It was nice meeting you all and hope we all return next year at the same time. If you have any questions about the Dorado please PM me and hopefully I can answer it. Ted&Julie
