Krystal Ixtapa
Ranked #18 of 22 Hotels in Ixtapa
Reviewed July 18, 2008

We when to NH Krystal Ixtapa for a family trip with two children 6 and 3. The Hotel in general was OK actually I was expecting a little bit more. The room is OK, average, the beds are OK and the room side is OK. The hotel elevators need to be renovate, I decided to take the stairs (8 floors) a couple of times because all the elevators were busy and they were slow.

The food taste is OK but there is no much variety, so price/quality/service/variety does not match, I feel that the buffet was expensive ($185 pesos) for what I received and when we decided to order instead of taking the buffet, the service was bad.

The pools are nice and the activities on the Hotel are OK. In general we enjoyed the hotel.

The hotel location is OK, it is on a walking distance from the mall.

HOtel staff was not helpful, beach was unswimmable and life guards were there to keep everyone out of the very dangerous water. Also there was green foam floating in the water for miles the entire week we were there.

The room smelled moldy as there were no fans in the bathroom and moisture never evaporated. Same in the hotel elevators which were continually wet due to people in wet swimsuits coming through all day long.

The pool bar staff were fine and the food was ok. Afternoon pool activity was basically a guy yelling into a microphone for two hours. very annoying and juvenile.

Hotel breakfast was delicious.

Trip to la ropa and zihua is worth it, taxi rates are reasonable.

Go to emilios for the pizza, also chimichangas was good. food in general was expensive.

This is not a 3 star hotel by any stretch.

The check-in area/lobby is a little hectic and worn, but over-all we had a good travel experience at the Krystal. The food was actually quite delicious and priced fairly. Enjoyed the pool, beach, and the view. Staff were friendly and helpful. We would go back.

The hotel is definety showing it's age despite a somewhat recent superficial cosmetic makeover it's musty and falling apart. Drinks were pretty expensive, but definetaly do as we did and pay cash for everything if you want to avoid crazy check out lines and go across the street to eat. The view was awesome and the pool was decent so all in all it was a good experience but we can make fun anywhere we go.

The NH Krystal Ixtapa is an attractive hotel. The pool area is it's greatest asset. Shaded in parts by coconut palms, a swim-up bar and an intereted physical layout make a day at the pool very pleasant. It's when you get to your room that the trouble begins. The rooms are not maintained well and we had to be moved from our first room when the air conditioning was defective. The drawer handles fell off and were never reattached, the light bulbs had to be replaced when we first entered, the shower had black fungus on it's ceiling and the air-conditioner was extremely loud and annoying. Added to that are beds that are as hard as rock and don't resemble real mattresses and the pillows are stuffed with very lumpy material that does not give. Imagine stuffing blue jeans in a pillowcase and sleeping on it. As a consequence we ended up with neck aches each morning. We spent seven days at the Krystal and moved to the Dorado Pacifico for the final two days, which, in comparison, was a move to heaven. In defense of the Krystal, we did meet quite a few repeaters who were willing to put up with the sub-standard room condition.

We just returned from a week's stay at NH Krystal. We loved the place and had a wonderful week. The staff aims to please and are courteous and helpful. The pool areas are well maintained. The pool activities were numerous...volleyball, water aerobics, water polo and poolside bingo. NH is an easy walk to a shopping area that includes lots of restaurants and shopping. We did not do the AI, and were happy we didn't as we enjoyed trying out the different restaurants across the street. The mexican people were very friendly and yes, they do ask if you want to buy the items they are selling, but a simple no, gracias, is all you need to say and they move on.

The first night our room did not have a great view, so I simply asked to be moved and the next day we were moved to a room with a beautiful view. Yes, they could do a little updating, and hopefully they are, but we would stay there again.
