I write this recension because of the restaurant, in fact I didn't have the opportunity to try the services of the Hotel. The place is very clean and there is a good acoustic system playing wonderful music all the time, food is sold by weight. To try for sure the Pierogi.Special dish of the restaurant. The girl that served us was very kindly and professional . Even if is almost in the centre of the city this place is not touristic at all.For sure I'll be back here the next time and I'll recommend this place to all my friends that are planning to have their holidays in Ostrzeszow!

I'm not sure who would look up hotels in Ostrzeszów on TripAdvisor, but here goes! We arrived by bus from Wrocław, and left by train for Poznań. We were there because our it's where our Polish son-in-law comes from, so we decided to visit his family on our way round south-west Poland. Ostrzeszów is a small town with only two hotels, and this one is nearer where they live. There's a hotel website but so far it's only in Polish. The room price was so reasonable that we decided to have an apartment, which turned out to be a huge bed-sittingroom and a superb bathroom, all with old-fashioned decor but very comfortable and perfectly clean. Housekeeping while we were there was a bit haphazard, but they responded quickly to requests. I don't think they have many English guests, and communication was easiest in basic Polish with German as a backup, but there was an English menu and the staff always did their best and were very friendly.

The food is fairly standard Polish cuisine, tasty, copious and substantial, but don't have the house wine; best to stick to the beer. There's a very good pizzeria run by the same people downstairs where we ate several times. There's also a supermarket just down the road out of town to stock up on water and other things you might need, and lots of little shops, bank, etc, in the town centre within a ten minute walk. We faced a fairly busy road and there was some noise from that and from the pizzeria, but not usually after 11pm, and we enjoyed watching the world go by from the balcony.

There are a few sights to see in Ostrzeszów: the castle keep with torture instruments from the Inquisition and a good view from the top, one or two lovely churches, particularly the chapel at the convent, some attractive houses, and a small museum in the Town Hall on the pretty market square. There are several other restaurants including Italian and Vietnamese/Thai, and a nice café-bar at the castle. There are some good children's play areas, and a great outdoor swimming pool complex on the outskirts of town, and they're building a new covered pool too. The surrounding countryside is very pretty and is developing its agrotourism. We were taken to see a lovely lake with water sports, and there are hills where you can ski. See the town website - in English - for more information.

Next time we go we might try the Hotel Dworek on the other side of town, which is in a quieter spot in its own grounds. If you would prefer something more like you'd expect in western Europe, that's probably the one. But do try the pizzeria at the Katrina, and we may well go back there, because we did like its family atmosphere. I expect if they keep going they'll learn to cope more confidently with overseas tourists. I shall keep an eye open for more reviews on TripAdvisor!
