“Relaxing stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 19, 2013

Lovely quality hotel with good spa, the outdoor hot tub was the best bit! Comfortable clean spacious bedroom, very nice bathroom, and comfortable reception rooms. Reasonably priced and relaxed restaurant surprisingly comparing to the cost of hotel, which was a little steep.

This is a very classy hotel, that not only welcomes children but is totally kitted out for them! Staff are brilliant and the settling is beautiful! Even has its own 3km running track through the grounds. Would heartily recommend and hope to come back soon!

From the moment we arrived the service was impeccable, the reception were great and helpful. Every member of staff you passed took the time to stop, smile and greet you.
Our room was lovely and spacious, light airy, immaculately presented and very comfortable.
Supper in the conservatory again had very good service, very friendly and precise. Food was good but perhaps did not meet the perfection of the rest of the experience, although the wine selection was superb and good value.
The finishing touch was on leaving and being presented with a bag with water and some chocolate in for our return journey, a very smooth touch.

Calcot Manor is set in expansive grounds, giving plenty of opportunity to venture outside.

Our check in was efficient; as we arrived slightly early we
were very kindly offered another room in which to freshen up... unfortunately our allocated room had already been vacated and cleaned so the need to use the alternate room was unnecessary.

The family room we used was pleasant, quiet with ample
space and nicely appointed.

The cleaning staff were pleasant and helpful and the room was always well turned out.

The staff at breakfast were enormously friendly and helpful they certainly started the day off well. Calcot breakfast was a well stocked buffet, with an a la carte hot menu. Very nicely presented and of good quality.

On the whole staff around the premises were pleasant.

Staff at dinner in the Conservatory were a 'mixed bag', some were very efficient, others ... less so, consistency here would be of enormous benefit. The food was also a bit variable with some very good plates being produced but also some average ones being presented.

The food at the Gumstool Inn 'gastro pub' was average as were the staff, nothing 'stand out' here. It seems to be well frequented, not quite sure what makes it so popular.

The Spa, is a good venue, but lacking in ambiance, especially in the treatment areas. There are several references in other reviews to the clientele, I can see where they are coming from; the 'Hoorays', do spoil the experience, but not entirely sure that the Spa can be held responsible for the vocal minority. Maybe not serving alcohol would 'turn the volume down a bit', after all it is a spa and not a country club, or did I miss something.

We booked as a 'package', which in effect limited our stay to within the manor and spa. This was sound marketing and is probably fine for a single night stay but in future we would forego the package deal to allow more flexibility in our choice of dining.

A very nice venue, a nice room, with some pleasant staff and some good food, let down by inconsistency in both food and staff. If the evening waiting staff could carry off the vivacious approach of the breakfast team and the food could be more consistent this would be a fantastic venue. Choose your package carefully, sometimes
'less is more'.

We decided to leave the children at home and stay at Calcot for my boyfriends birthday. We had a wonderful stay, the spa is amazing as we're our treatments. We drank wine in the hot tub and had a wonderful meal. Our room was huge and we were able to take the dog too. Always a wonderful welcome here and e complimentary champagne and birthday card was a lovely surprise too! Thanks again Calcot!

Room Tip: The outside rooms allow dogs and in my view they are the best!!

Our children gave us a voucher for one nights stay at the Calcot Manor which included money towards our evening meal and spa treatments. (See their offers). We stayed there back in 2004 and it is still a very special place. We love the Cotswolds and this retreat in a quiet area and fabulous rooms and delicious meals is just wonderful. Expensive but worth every penny for a real treat. Hope to go again sometime.

Room Tip: Stayed in Wiltshire, wonderful with beautiful bathroom, bath and walk-in shower. Only a few bedroom...

This place is very pleased with itself. Unfortunately it doesn't extend to being pleased to serve its guests. We waited to order and had to ask someone to come . The table is ready but carry your own drinks. The meal delay for the main course needed two requests before it came. Staff badly trained reach across in front of you and pour wine as though it was fizzy drink. It seems tea and coffee fare no better in the service stakes you wait no one comes, you wait some more then ask and it's just coming. If it wasn't all so pretentious it would be ok but at this level this is really the worst of British service.
