Description: The Gurnards Head is a fabulous old inn looking out to the Atlantic, round the corner from the farming hamlet of Treen. Just 500 yards from the dramatic coastline, isolated, but within 15 minutes of Penzance and St Ives, this handsome hideout ticks every conceivable box. The sunshine is brought inside in the brightly decorated, comfortable dining room serving fresh, unbeatably good food from a menu that changes according to the catch of the day. Though the emphasis is on ease and honest enjoyment, theres nothing relaxed about the quality and attention to detail given to the food, drink and service. Lunch is chosen from a chalk board, while the evening introduces the la carte which usually features local steak and hazelnut-crusted Megrim Sole. The best seats are the window ones overlooking the fields and ocean beyond.

Lovely pub with good food. Service upon arrival left us a little cold which seems to run through a fair amount of commentary, but the waitress service was warm and attentive so soon forgotten. Food was of good standard, well cooked, nicely presented and good portions. For a place doing such a huge turnover of business, the 'gents' could do with some investment. When a pub charges restaurant prices for food, it should also provide the same facilities. Would definitely return though, although a warmer welcome would be nice.

Thank you for your thoughts. A new senior team on the floor since the Spring have really picked up our service and welcome so I'm sorry you felt that warmth was a bit lacking this time. We'll all keep an eye on it.

We agree with you about the loos and have just finished (13th December) refurbishing them (both boys and girls). We're now very proud of them and hope you'd now be happy to use them.

What a place. Lovely rooms, fantastic ale, beer, wine choice. The food is superb. Fantastic veggie options and other things to boot. One little thing that could be better is a veggie option for breakfast. Overall though, a great place to stay overlooking the moor/cliff.

For a remote restaurant in Cornwall, for 2 separate couples to have recommended it to us, we figured that we should indeed visit! Luckily it is a good walk from Zennor along the pretty coastal path which more than works up a hunger! Lovely setting just 1km up the road from the coast. Cute dining room - lots of mis-matched tables and chairs and plenty of quirky art work on the walls. Incredibly friendly staff. We were lucky to get a table for lunch without pre-booking, so I would suggest you pre-book. Big garden for the summer. Great menu - not long but really mixed so everyone will find something. Also good portions and very reasonable. Happily there are 3 linked locations that are run by the same people!

We're local and have used this place several times over recent years. Last came a couple of months ago for a similar family lunch which was wonderful. This time round we were much less impressed made worse no doubt by our sense of anticipation. Five of us (two 90 yr olds) for Saturday lunch and the menu across the board was tired and lacklustre, In particular the rib of beef was not recently carved and took on the greyish appearance of a school dinner. That said the veg was nicely presented apart from the carrot which was bizarre - a single half of a largish carrot cut lengthways down the middle and sufficiently under cooked as to be impossible to cut through with the the knife supplied. The sweets, which were stunning last time, were disappointing this time. The brownie was a square of hard crust with a dollup of clotted cream; similarly the preparation of the panna cotta lacked flair or imagination - a small mould of panna cotta, with three halves of colourless strawberries and a bland biscuit. The the two pots of coffee only managed to stretch to 4 cups, though five were ordered and charged for.Overall not cheap at £35/head, with only 3 of us having starter and a £23 bottle of wine to drink. Sorry team, this time was not your finest. On the plus side, the waiting staff were charming and attentive, though did need to be chased for the bill!

My other half and I just had Sunday lunch at the Gunards Head. The food was top notch. The weather was ok and so were able to take advantage of their outside seating, whilst watching the Lands End 100 cycle sportive ride past wishing they were all sat here sipping cider! The service was good, nothing special to report, but the waitresses were friendly, polite, attentive and that is all we could ask for really. The food was delicious, I had pork and my bf had the beef, both of which were very tasty, well cooked and we enjoyed it. The decor is somewhat interesting, but we didn't go to look at the walls and were happy with the food and service. Although we are local to Cornwall I don't believe the vendors would've known any difference or treated us any other way, than the way we were...just fine!
