“Wonderful!”
Reviewed April 8, 2014 via mobile

My partner treated me to a stay here while visiting family and we were delighted from the moment we walked in the door. Attentive staff who were friendly and helpful. Our room The Shergar, was delightful, huge bed, roll top bath and double walk in shower, lovely hospitality tray too and fresh juice in the rooms fridge.
Breakfast was great, even catering for my dietary needs.
My highlight to top all of this was the perfect steak I had on our second night. It was sublime.
We will be back and I can't speak highly enough of our experience.

We are so pleased to see that you enjoyed your recent stay at The Black Horse.
Shergar is one of our most popular rooms but there are also another 6 individually designed rooms to choose from.
Keep an eye on the website as we are in the process of updating the Bedroom page with pictures and a little bit of detail on each room to help you choose which one to stay in next time you return.

A really great place. Room was lovely with the little extras including fresh biscuits and milk. The room was quiet, clean and the shower was powerful! The restaurant/pub is great and with the choice of more formal dining room or cosy pub provides variation. We stayed on a Sunday so the pub was very busy and lively during the day. The food was very good. Talking of nice touches a couple of my meal choices were unavailable (probably due to the popularity) but rather than just offer something else the staff and chef offered an alternative (fish) course that was not on the menu. I thought this showed real care and attention rather than just providing a limited menu. Staff were fantastic and (although they probably don't want me to advocate it) we turned up a little bit early for check in. They went to the trouble of checking whether the room had been cleaned and allowed us to book in. These little things make a big difference to the overall feel of a place. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: We had Kauto Star and it was a lovely suite. I don't know what the other rooms are like but I as...

We have stayed here twice now and both times have loved the place. The rooms are very comfortable with lots of nice touches like water, orange juice and fresh milk in the rooms. We were joined by friends for dinner this time and the food was excellent. A great choice and beautifully cooked. The service was also outstanding. Breakfast was first class. We'll be back!

A little hard to find the place as the new dual carriagway has recently blocked off the right turn sat nav wants to take so check a map before travelling! The place is homely and warm, outstandingly decorated and comfortable. The two rooms we used both had beautiful large stand alone bath tubs as well as hot high pressure showers. Lovely little extra touches like cookies and hot chocolate in the room along with tea etc. The continental breakfast hamper was plentiful and excellent quality. The cooked food, dinner and breakfast, was all to a high standard- perfectly cooked quality ingredients. Staff were unfailingly friendly, they could not do enough to make you feel more at home. It was spotless, warm and the beds are soft and luxurious. My only minor criticism is plug sockets are hard to reach to plug your phone into but that is being really nit picky, the place was perfect!

I agree it can be a little awkward when travelling Northbound on the A1 now that they have blocked off the road. The best option is to take the Turn off signposted for Bedale / North Allerton by Leeming Bar services and usually the Sat Nav will update the new route for you.

Thank you for your lovely comments with regards to your rooms we do try our best to make them as comfortable as possible for our guests.

I can promise I will take a look at the access to the Plug sockets in the rooms order to make them easier to use.

What a find. We went for an overnighter - one of our little treats to ourselves, and what a delightful little place this is. We stayed in the room called 'Shergar' - it was spacious and practical, with it's own access to a secluded patio area. (Don't be startled by the free range chickens though, they do tend to wander into the garden). The bed was comfy and spacious (not sure if it was a 'king', but certainly OK for us). The bathroom was really quite lovely with a claw foot bath and a separate large shower. Just one little negative comment; wasn't a particularly cold night when we stayed but it was a little chilly in the room at certain times. I think the heating was on a timer. It was a bit of a shame, but it didn't spoil our stay. Dinner was amazing and was as good as any we've had. The breakfast was equally as good, and a very pleasant surprise as sometimes on a 'dinner, bed and breakfast' arrangement, breakfasts can prove to be a little less appealing. All of the staff we met were very pleasant too. We would definitely recommend this place.

Room Tip: We stayed in the 'Shergar' room (ground floor), and we didn't hear any noise from the 2...

The Shergar Suite is one of our most popular rooms because of the large bathroom with the separate Shower and free standing bath along and also because of the French doors that open onto the private garden area. I can confirm that it is a Superking size bed in this room.

But not quite so good when on business. It's a great place but not particularly versatile. Weak wifi in my room, cooked breakfast from 9 so not great when working. Use it for a holiday/romantic break and it would probably get 5 stars.

I am so sorry that you had a problem with the Wifi signal in your room, I can assure you that I will investigate this issue.
I am sorry that you were also disappointed that there was no cooked Breakfast before 9.00am, we did look into offering this earlier but found that the demand was limited and that majority of our corporate guests were quite happy with the Continental Breakfast / Hamper.
Next time you are coming to stay with us, please let us know and we will see what we can do for you.
