Well on Saturday we got married in Kirkby Fleetham and asked our lovely Local Pub to host the reception. What a brilliant team they have there. Faultless, efficient, happy, friendly and thoughtful, they came up with great ideas to add to the ambiance of the day and worked tirelessly to make sure everyone had a brilliant time.

Everyone who came raved about the fresh curries prepared by the Chefs and went mad for the ice cream cornets we offered as dessert from a little stand put together by the staff and boasting flakes and 100s n 1000s etc so everyone could have more fun. The canapes were sublime and elegant, the service seamless.

Our whole family took over the pub, staying in all their rooms and were agog at how the team managed to transform the pub back to normal every morning for breakfast. (we stayed 2 days). Every room is gorgeous, I may move in there instead!

A brilliant pub, I'm wondering why I'm sharing this....its OUR fabulous pub! Thanks to Jackie, Steph and the team.

Room Tip: They are ALL brilliant.

Taken by friends for a birthday lunch, very pleasant lady at the bar on arrival, order drinks and get shown to our table.

Well written menu with plenty of choice, good value for money for the quality. my main course - ox cheek hash with celeriac puree, duck egg and wild mushrooms, extremely delicious, beer very well kept.

Cosy and pretty surroundings, you can tell they care about the place

Will return and recommend

While not wanting to appear a Guest that expects too much , I did have to wonder as to wether the Inn I visited was in fact the same one that had such Glowing reviews on your Website.
I must say the Staff were very friendly and the Food was of a Reasonable standard , however the Room which we where given was very lacking in storage space and rather tight on space.

This hotel was better than average but I wouldn't say very good, in the absence of an in between category I have given it the higher score. It was good, the rooms were clean and nicely decorated and the bed was very comfortable with good linen. The bathroom was spacious and well appointed but one of the ground floor rooms was very public as other guests walked right past the window.,

The staff were friendly and the breakfast good and with its location just off the A1 it is a convenient place for a quick overnight stopover.

We have just returned from a weekend visit to the Black Horse Inn, we stayed with family so had three rooms in total. We stayed in the Kauto Star Suite in the main building and it was lovely a large room with a comfy bed, en suite bathroom with shower over the bath lots of hot water and thick fluffy towels, Molton Brown toiletries including shampoo and conditioner, there was a hair dryer in the room as well as ironing board and iron. Coffee and tea with a flask of fresh milk.

Other rooms in our party were the Arkle Suite that again was comfortable with a shower and no bath and the Milton Suite which was in an annexe and had both a large shower and a roll top bath.

Breakfast was a choice of continental in your room or cooked in the bar, we opted for the cooked breakfast and this was great full English or smoked salmon and scrambled eggs which were perfectly cooked, plenty of toast and tea and coffee.

We ate in the restaurant on the Saturday evening and the food was lovely, they were busy and a couple of the choices had sold out but the staff were very attentive and helpful.

Overall we were all impressed with the Black Horse and as we visit this area quite often we will definitely being staying again in the future.

Stumbled across this place during a random search on the internet after booking a local attraction and very pleased we were. Warm friendly welcome with a lovely atmosphere - wood burning chiminea outside and candles on tables. Clean rooms with much attention to detail. Children adjoining room made the stay really - juice, teddy bears and games.. Only disappointing thing was that a couple of the items on the menu had sold out (we booked for 6 oclock on a sunday) which didnt really effect me but I have a picky other half. They were also happy to make up a separate dish not on the menu for my son and only charged a fiver for what was an adult size portion.

Room Tip: Room 1 for families was great

A bit disappointed as it wasn't as good as we expected after reading other reviews. The staff were friendly, it was clean and comfortable and the décor was attractive - French rustic? Good parking and lovely outdoor space. However the pretty style wasn't so practical - in bedroom heating seems to be controlled by a main timer so it was cold in the evening/at night and hot in the morning, there was no window in the toilet (only a shower cubicle no bath), the cistern leaked and the lighting though attractive was dim so very dark. The only mirror in the bedroom was at the side of the bed with no power point nearby. We had booked a table to dine at 8 but 2 of the 4 daily specials on the menu were already finished. I was served the wrong dish for both my starter and main course. Surprised also to see paper napkins considering the cost. Moving back to the bar (which is more an extension of the dining area) for a relaxing drink, all the tables were already set up for breakfast complete with ketchup and brown sauce! There was no-one else in the bar so it wasn't like a village pub, there was no heating and they'd run out of vodka. The staff were friendly, and the rooms look lovely but a bit of style over substance. A few changes and this would be a lovely place to stay. Perhaps we were just unlucky, but it was fairly expensive and definitely needs tweaking.
