“Absolutely Superb!”
Reviewed April 24, 2013

Room was fantastic, spacious and very comfortable indeed. As was dinner - excellent food. As was breakfast. And the price for all this was very reasonable indeed! Add a taste card to dinner and the price just gets better and better! 5 stars all round!

Room Tip: Take a tastecard for a discount at dinner

We stayed in the room 1 a family suite which was delightful. Kids had their own separate room off ours which had lovely touches such as teddies, games and bottles of juice. Both rooms were well decorated and there was lots of attention to detail. We stayed after a trip to Forbidden Corner and after a freezing cold day it was lovely to arrive at such a warm, friendly, welcoming hotel. Staff were all lovely and nothing seemed too much trouble. We ate in the restaurant, good menu choice and nice home cooked children's meals. Breakfast was very tasted, decided to go for a cooked breakfast but loved the idea of the hamper in room. One of the nicest family friendly hotels we've stayed in, would definitely return and have already recommended it to friends.

We stayed at the black horse because we were visiting a couple of attractions in the area. What a lovely place to stay! The reviews helped me choose this pub , and we were extremely pleased with everything.
Our room, the Therwell suite(family room) was gorgeous! Exactly what we needed for our family . The boys loved the teddies and the games and books were a nice touch as well.
We ate in the restaurant, and everyone's meals were lovely, as was the breakfast. There were two hampers in the room, full of breakfast things, porridge, jams etc, so if you didn't want a cooked breakfast, you had that option.
Very clean , friendly staff, quality rooms in a beautiful village. Would love to return!

With roaring log fires, friendly staff and a large bar area and dining area, the Black Horse is a must.
The food is excellent and choice is really inspiring.
Paired with other similarly gorgeous pubs in local villages, the area has rapidly become a brilliant place to eat/stay/be merry!

We stayed at the Black Horse for 3 nights in March. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left we found all the staff to be very welcoming and friendly.

The room (Shergar) was lovely, a large comfy bed with a nice little garden area and a great bathroom with stand alone bath and powerful shower. The cereal and orange juice in the room was a nice touch.

We ate in the pub each night as we found the food was absolutely amazing. The quality of the dishes was superb. I highly recommend the taste of pork and the beef hash. The black pudding starter was also beautiful.

The pub is only minutes from the A1 so will attract business users but also it is very convenient for the Moors.

Great place and we would definitely return.

We booked through their website, but when we got to the inn, they had no record of our booking, fortunately I had printed of the confirmation, and they had 1 room free. We had the same problem as other people, we were in room 2, which meant we could hear the noise from the bar, I assume it was the staff, which for us on a Sunday night, went on to about 2am in the morning. It wasn't loud, just the noise travelled and kept disturbing my sleep. I did mention it in the morning, but I suppose nothing can be done, do the staff not have homes to go to? Room was very nice, oddly the room must be on a slight slant, as when I put my keys on the bedside table, they slipped off! Bed comfy, the curtains could be thicker. Nice touches with the biscuits and coffee. We ate 2 courses in the restaurant, the meal was really nice, we both had roast beef, and again like previous reviews, I hadn't quite finished with the veg and the dish was taken away. Wine fairly good value. We certainly weren't hurried out of the restaurant. The breakfast the next day in the bar was certainly of good quality, handmade jams. We didn't have anything out of the hamper in the bedroom.

Room Tip: Don't stay in room 2 unless you are a heavy sleeper!
