“Feel a part of the family”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 3, 2011

From the moment we arrived, Barb and Barry made us feel part of the family.
You will feel as if you live in a very special part of Mexico. The location is perfect, just a short walk into town, but far enough away to have your quiet time by their pool. They have a really cool bar with outside kitchen and palapa where we spent many hours eating and relaxing - make sure to have them arrange a special treat - inhouse massages, manicures, pedi's and facials. By the time we left we felt like one big happy family.

Our Return to Villa Santa Barbara Nov 12, 2010

The first time we visited Villa Santa Barbara, Barra de Navidad for a month in 2009 it was a given that we would return.

Our Hosts, Barb and Barry, hailing from Gibsons on the Sunshine Coast of
British Columbia, designed, constructed, and rent three suites in their charming Villa located on one of the three Canals leading out to the Pacific Ocean from Barra de Navidad, Mexico.

We arrived on Schedule on Alaska Air from Seattle, WA. to Manzanillo, with one stop over in Los Angeles, about a four hour flight and 26 kilometer drive north to Barra de Navidad.

We were met at the Airport by Barry as this year we opted not to do a Rental Car from the Airport, as we did the previous year. It was ridiculously expensive. Instead we rented a Jeep in Barra, from Crazy Cactus Construction, owned by Tracy, a local entrepreneur

We were grateful for the pickup, four adult Canadians with luggage. We managed in Barry’s’ midsized SUV comfortably.

At the Villa, Barb welcomes us, having prepared a large Lasagna Casserole with Garlic Bread and a Picture of Margaritas. In addition our fridges were stocked with the basics, coffee, eggs, and even red, white wines and beer.

The units are well appointed for housekeeping, all linens supplied, super clean with full maid service once a week. There is a private pool, very refreshing, that is attended to on a daily basis, by Raul and Dora, a Mexican couple who were so friendly and gracious in spite of our much limited Spanish vocabulary.

The Villa is equipped with Air Conditioners, albeit the cost to run them is extreme. We rarely had to use them as there is usually a soft breeze and after all we are here for the tropical atmosphere!
At Villa Santa Barbara one can be assured of a warm welcome and all efforts by the Hosts for a memorable, comfortable holiday.

We first spent 8 lovely days in early June, and it was love at first sight! Villas Santa Barbara is a little slice of paradise along one of the main canals and faces the Hotel Grand Bay, which is just a glorious view. There are three suites. The Junior Suite which we stayed in for two months is really only one large room, with a well appointed kitchen and full size refrigerator and a large bathroom. The Junior Suite is handicap accessible. We rented the suite from July 1 to the end of September and in mid August moved into the larger Premiere Suite which gave us more room, although we were had plenty of room even in the Junior Suite for the length of time we were there. (We did not use the air conditioning and were quite comfortable with their fans) The beds are the most comfortable beds we have ever slept in in all of Mexico, truly American or Canadian quality, with pillow top comfort, and 800 thread count sheets. No concrete bedframes like a lot of Mexican hotels. Everything is top notch!

It is impossible to think of one down thing about the Villas. They are a treasure, and we love every moment we have spent there.

The pool is lovely and has a wonderful sitting ledge just to sit and lounge on. There are pool floats for your use and I am sure if you need something Barry and Barb will do their best to find it for you.

There are comfy chase lounges and hammocks to relax on, ice chests that I believe can be borrowed for day trippers, a phone for local phone calls and a marvelous wireless internet system that makes contact with your family in the States or Canada instantaneous.

Also, down near the pool is a full outside kitchen, containing a sink for washing dishes, a small refrigerator, stove and a fantastic barbeque grill. Behind the outdoor kitchen is a shower and toilet for your convenience in showering off sand and also using the facilities so you need not go upstairs to the penthouse or even trouble yourself with a walk to the Junior of Premiere Suite.

Now for the what we consider our most favorite spot, the Palapa! Ahhhhhh, especially in the summer heat, we could sit under the palapa with the fan going and always a wonderful afternoon breeze no matter how hot, it was always comfy under that wonderful palapa.

Also, there is a boat dock so you can arrange for a water taxi to take a wonderful tour of the lagoon or a water taxi ride over to the Hotel Grand Bay or Barra and a view of the Hotel Grand Bay and all of Barra de Navidad that is spectacular!

We loved the Villas so much that we returned to them again this summer on June 1 and stayed until the end of October. What a wonderful way to spend a summer! Truly paradise.

We have spent the last two summers at Villas Santa Barbara and now consider it our home away from home. We have fallen in love with Villas Santa Barbara. Thank you so much for making our last two summers so fantastic!!!!!

We have just returned from Barra. We have been to Barra about 8 times now. We have stayed in many different places. Villa Santa Barbara was one of our favorites. Barb and Barry made us feel so comfortable. From the moment we arrived, we had a welcome basket complete with fresh fruit, snacks, bottle of wine and a pizza in the freezer. We stayed in the Penthouse Suite. We had our 21 yr old daughter and her friend. There was plenty of space in the 2 bedroom/2bath suite for all of us. The private deck was very nice to have our coffee in the mornings and watch the Sun come up. We even had our favorite Massage Lady "Norma" from Melaque come to the Suite for a Massage on the deck. Heavenly!!!
It was nice to have access to a washer/dryer. The pool was very clean and inviting. It was just the right temp. The outdoor furniture was top notch, very comfortable and in very good condition. Towels and sheets were top quality, as were the beds. We didn't watch any T.V. however there are nice flat screen T.V.'s in all the bedrooms. There is a great collection of DVD's also. Barb and Barry are wonderful hosts and will make your stay a memorable one as they did ours. We cannot wait to return.
