“Perfect. Can we come back, please?”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 18, 2014

My wife and I spent our honeymoon in one of the lodges which obviously made it very special anyway, but we both regard our week there as the best holiday that we've ever had. The lodge felt like home from home, whilst the hot tub was truly the icing on the cake. I have a spinal condition, and the combination of the relaxing atmosphere, a twice-daily soak in the hot tub and the firm-yet-very comfortable bed meant that I left Porthtowan feeling far more comfortable and in considerably less pain than when we'd arrived.

Another plus-point is the availability of CRB checked childcare from a local nursery nurse, who looked after our young daughter on two evenings whilst my wife and I went out for meals at local restaurants. Our daughter was very happy and felt completely at ease with her, being read to at bedtime and evidently very well - and competently - looked after. Importantly, we also felt comfortable leaving our daughter in her care, having met and talked with the nursery nurse beforehand.

Not being car owners, we found getting around by public transport completely unproblematic. On arrival, we got a taxi from Redruth rail station, had our food shopping delivered by the local Sainsbury's, used local buses to travel up and down the coast to various places (St. Ives perhaps being the highlight), and then used the local taxi firm to return us to Redruth at the end of the holiday.

The Blue Bar in Porthowan was good for drinks and daytime snacks, as well as doing fine evening meals; Archie Brown's veggie café and shop in Truro was excellent; and Sally's restaurant (now called Taste) in St. Agnes was also great and well worth journeying out to.

We still talk about our week at the lodge and get rather misty-eyed on a regular basis. We are currently dreaming of the hot tub, the barbecue, the blue flag beach that's a short walk from the lodges, the mighty fine ice cream parlour and our planned return for our fifth wedding anniversary.

What a really great review and yes, of course you can come back, you will be very welcome. We were so pleased we helped to make your honeymoon really special. Our recommended babysitter was clearly a great benefit. We often get asked by guests the availability of public transport prior to a booking and we were really pleased with your comment. We will point them in the direction of this review. Thanks again, we really do appreciate such positive comments and we look forward to welcoming you all back for your fifth anniversary. All the best from all of us at Rosehill.

We stayed here for 6 nights 28/12/2013-02/01/2014, cannot rate this accommodation highly enough. The living space was spacious, we have two young children 6 & 3 and they both enjoyed it.The lodge was very well thought out and well equipped with modern appliances. Being an Eco lodge it didn't require much heating and with the log burner on we found it very cosy. Outside there's a spacious glass covered decking area with 4 person hot tub which was used to its full potential, whatever the weather!
The lodges are nicely secluded and once night falls you gain a sense of being the only people about very very peaceful.
Rosehill Lodge is situated a 5 minute walk from Porthtowan beach, if you walk down through the lodges you only need to cross the road to the path to the beach very easy with 2 young children in tow. Porthtowan beach is wonderful with plenty of rock pools for the kids to explore and lovely long stretches of golden sand.
Whilst at the beach the Blue Cafe is well worth a visit

Thank you so much for your great review. It is so appreciated. Sounds like you had a really good New Years holiday. Pleased you and the family enjoyed the hot tub and the log burner. You found the footpath to the beach which is really useful with the children and we totally agree that the beach is great fun. The lodges are mega insulated so as you say they really are warm and cosy. You mentioned the glass covered decking area. We are getting more and more positive comments as this allows our guests to dine al-fresco whatever the weather. Big thanks again for your review, i will pass this on to our staff and we look forward to seeing you all again in the future. All the best.

Beautiful lodges, stunning decor and lovely staff. They provided Cots for out babies and everything you need is provided. The hot tub was amazing.
The walk to the beach is a little precarious with no paths and was a concern with young children, it would be nice if a safer route through the grounds was available.
Would Definetly return

Many thanks for your lovely review. Pleased that you will "definetly return", you will be very welcome. Thank you for saying "beautiful lodges, stunning decor and lovely staff". I will pass your comments on to our staff who will, i am sure, be well pleased. We must have slipped up on the welcome show-around on your arrival as we normally advise a footpath route to the village and beach. Essentially when you leave Rosehill at the bottom of the valley opposite Beach Road, instead of walking down Beach Road, you can cross the road onto the pavement, go round to the right and there is a footpath into the center of the village and the beach. Takes about 5-10 minutes. Many apologies for not pointing this out to you. On your return visit we will be happy to show you the footpath. Big thanks again for your excellent review and we look forward to seeing you all again in the future. All the very best.

We were first attracted to this place because it had both a log fire and a hot tub; a combination which is quite hard to find! I read in one of the reviews that the road was close by and it was noisy, I'd like to just say although a main country road does run parallel to the lodges, the cars travelling up and down the road at high speed did not disturb us at all - did not even hear them! The lodge (Wheal Towan) was extremely clean and well equipped, the hot tub faced away from the main path, the internet was free and we had no connection problem. Mobile phones won't work there as it's in a valley. Although, the hot tub faced away from the main path, the bedroom, living room and kitchen faced the main path, so people walking past can see in. However, you can choose a different lodge where the bedroom faces the back for example, but the hot tub might then face the main path. Either way something will have to give as the lodges are not surrounded by trees on all four sides - just something to be aware of. Having said that, this was no bother for us. The lodge is more of a home from home, there is no daily housekeeping, you are in charge of leaving the place tidy before you leave. The only time that someone comes over is around midday everyday to check on the hot tub and this takes seconds causing no disruption at all! The loveliest thing of all is that at night it's pitch black so you can see the stars. There are no lights outside, you will need a torch to walk the ten paces from where you park your car to get to the front door of your lodge! The only negative bit about the lodge are the sofas; they are very upright and not comfortable at all. You cannot lounge, I settled for the floor - much more comfortable. If, like me, you like to read, the sofas are not the most comfortable things to sit in. You may as well just either go out to a quiet beach, sit in bed or try to not get your book wet in the hot tub! Rosehill lodges is quite central in terms of location; we managed to visit St. Ives (three times!), Newquay, Padstow, The Roseland Peninsula, St. Austell, Truro, Carbis Bay and many more all in one week! There's a convenience shop not far and a Tesco with petrol station less than 5 minutes away. The beach is just past the convenience shop! Enjoy!

Room Tip: Double beds are made up of 2 single beds pushed together which work fine.

Big thanks for your great review. The fact that you did not want to leave says it all. Really pleased you had such a fantastic time at Rosehill. We agree, the night sky with the stars are amazing. With almost zero light pollution in the valley the stars really do stand out. You mentioned that you found the sofa a bit uncomfortable. Some of our lodges do have different sofas so if this is a problem for anyone considering staying at Rosehill please give us a call and we will be happy to advise. Many thanks again for your five star recommendation. Look forward to seeing you again. All the best.

A fantastic week had by all. With 4 children under the age of 3 we were not expecting much time to relax but a dip in the hot tub after a busy day on the beach was the perfect end to the day. An amazing place with friendly and helpful staff. Thank you again for a wonderful holiday!

We have just returned from our 4th stay at Rosehill lodges. As ever, a warm welcome was given. I was interested to read the review of the honeymoon couple and although I understand the points made, I think the 3 stars a bit harsh. The lodges themselves are effectively a home for your stay. It’s not a hotel room that needs no into. On my arrival, I did think I would not need a show around and I already knew it all. As a result, my quick tour was about 3 or 4 mins. Interestingly, on the first evening, the lights tripped out on the ground floor when I switched on the outside lights to the decked area. I was grateful for the tour and recalled the torch I was shown under the sink, which I used to go to the RCB (which I was also shown) in the cupboard and reset the RCB. I reported it the next day and a ‘sparky’ was called out who rectified a fault to one of the lights. No problem for us. These things happen. Its important that you are shown how to use the hot tub and the chemical container you drop in to keep it clean. Dead easy but has to be said ! In terms of cleanliness, the lodges are always spotless. Not a speck of dust anywhere. If you are a couple you’d have to make a real mess to need to do any cleaning before leaving. We just ensure we wipe down the kitchen worktops etc and cleaned as we went exactly as you would at home. We did not other cleaning and made sure we left no washing up!

Getting back to the lodges themselves…the owners pride themselves on the quality of the lodges. They are 5 star and justifiably so. We had a complimentary bottle of fizz left in the fridge for a promotion from a local producer. If you are honeymooners or want to be pampered a package is offered which you pay for as extra if you so choose. It is a business you know and every little costs money! The linen is high quality with duvets and beds made up. Complimentary quality toiletries. Everything you need in the kitchen is provided down to wash machine tabs, washing up liquid and cling film ! The living room furniture could be more comfy but if you go for fabric instead of leather it is less hygienic with lots of use.~

The major selling points are the log fire and most of all, the hot tub. We have chosen the same lodge each time and always end the day in the hot tub with a bottle of prosecco. No accommodation will be perfect for everybody but for us, we cannot fault it. Even on the last day, the staff knew both mine and my partner’s first names and gave that personal touch. For all those reasons, they will keep getting our business….and all those we have recommended it to who have since been to Rosehill.

In terms of location, we dropped into Tesco in Redruth (10 mins away) or called in at one of the many other similar outlets to buy our evening meal choice, we did Falmouth, which has a great maritime museum with fab views of Falmouth and also went to Pendennis Castle. We did our usual visit to St Ives but instead of trying to park, we parked at St Erth station and took one of the regular trains for £8 return total and enjoyed the 20 min coastal route. Rounded off with a pint of Tribute overlooking St Ives Bay. Charlestown was a first for us and a lovely little quiet harbour with the shipwreck museum a good choice and a sandwich and a pint outside the pub right on the seashore. Can’t recall the name of it but great food and a lovely view. We don’t usually do museums etc but decided to have a bit of culture and all the above were great value. Rounded off with an afternoon at the lovely Mevagissy harbour.

Well, this must be my longest review but it deserves the time as the staff do a great job and have a fantastic site. We look forward to our next stay and are yet again…. considering buying our own hot tub as we cannot wait till our return J if you want clinical and corporate….choose hoseasons…..If you want quality, style and that personal touch…..choose Rosehill !

Room Tip: We stayed in Wheal Towan

We returned to Rosehill and have had another fabulous stay. Quite different this time, we visited with three babies, a 2 year old and four adults. Early morning walks to the beach, (evening walks to the pub for the adults!) and lazy mornings with coffee (lego and train sets), listening to the wonderful sound of the the surrounding trees in the peaceful valley. This time we really appreciated how well the cupboards were stocked with useful equipment - including a storage tin, cafetiere, saucepans, cook books and essential cutlery plus DVDs and books. All things that other rentals are short of and you always forget to pack. The hot tub was a winner for the adults in the evening when the kids were in bed as was the fast wi-fi which we would have all been lost without!
All the staff were wonderfully friendly and able to offer advice on where to eat/drink/visit. John, the owner was especially helpful as we arrived. Four kids in the van for 5 hours was hectic and he was patient (held a baby!) and helped us find our way around the lodge and made a fast getaway with the promise of any help should we need it. We bumped into him a few times as he checks hot tubs every day and it was a joy to chat to him and see his smiling face.
Great to feel like these lodges are so versatile having visited without the family and with - worked for all visits and will return again. I've rated this as excellent for children's activities - not only because there were a few great distractions in the lodge but because it is so close to the beach and easy to drive to Tehidy Woods, Perranporth and Newquay.

What a totally lovely review and very informative. Your third visit, this time as a young family. Really pleased you all had a great time as before and found the lodge fully equipped for a family holiday. It was such a pleasure to hold your baby on the welcome show around. He was a real delight. Didnt cry once which was amazing. With a couple of grandchildren i,m kind of in the baby zone myself. The photo your posted on our facebook page is lovely. The past couple of months we have had so many babies on holiday at Rosehill. Brilliant. Pleased you liked the free fast wi-fi broadband. Since your previous visit the wi fi has been upgraded to superfast and unlimited.Big thanks for writing this review as i know its difficult being a busy Mum. We look forward to seeing you all again as your family grows. All the very best.
