Stayed here for one night with the Spring offer which includes accommodation and a three course dinner. The guesthouse is Swedens oldest, and every room are different. We were given room # 10 which is on ground level. The rooms was very little, but charming. Since there was something wrong with the lighting, we had to change room and were placed in # 26 which was much larger with a separate sitting area. The rooms are comfortable, but are all with twin beds. Note that there are thin walls throughout the hotel, so if you’re bothered by the neighbour’s snoring, make sure to bring ear plugs  The breakfast was very good with croissants, eggs, bacon etc. The hotel’s restaurant is gourmet class, so worthwhile to have a stopover for a nice meal.

Room Tip: Ask for a room not on the ground floor

I have for many years known Tanums Gestgifveri, but never really had the chance to stay overnight. Mostly because it's close to Oslo, my hometown and secondly because it's not far enough down E6 towards Europe!

Staying this time was inded a good thing to do. I got a nice double room with good place and beautiful sight. The room it self was a little bit too old with not too well kept interior, but everything worked and the bathroom was quite in order. Nicly decorated! Wifi worked perfect!

The restaurant was superb and very cozy. Good food at it's best. I stayed two nights and had the gourmet package both nights. Absolutely worth every penny.

I will be coming back.... :-)

After spending a weekend at a wedding south from Oslo, we decided to hop over to Sweden and go shopping. We found this place on-line and booked it. I'm glad we did. Nice people at the reception. There was coffee and small cakes in the afternoon. In the morning there was a small buffet breakfast. We were there on a Sunday night, so the restaurant was not open - they do have a weekend restaurant package: Friday to Sunday. That was OK for us, we might go back there for a weekend restaurant package in the future when we have more time.

The place is historical and not ultra-modern. It has a cozy feeling about it. That is why we liked it. It is NOT a cookie-cutter type of place. The small town was sleepy and safe to walk around in. Tanum is close to Strømstad and Nordby, where all the department stores, large and 'cheap' grocery stores and governmental liquor stores are.

We came to this hotel by pure chance after several hours of driving. It was late, windy and raining. We received a varm welcome by the reception. People are very friendly. There was live music in the bar. The price was a bit high, but this is a hotel with history and excellent service.

The chandelier in the room was a bit low, we hit it quite a few times during the one night stay. ;-)

Good value, excellent service nice old fashioned airy rooms. we had the golf master package and had two excellent meals which were included in the price. The only negative was only that only had very expensive wine for sale these were good but they could also have had a domestic choice,,, stuck to beer which was good.

The restaurant at this hotel was recommended to us as one of the best in Sweden. It was actually mediocre, over-priced, with terrible service. Don't waste your money! The fish dish that I ordered was tasteless and tough. We sat forever waiting for the waiter. The restaurant was nearly empty (that should have been a clue). If you need dinner in Tanum, go down the road to the Hotel Vinbäck for a basic, home-cooked, low cost meal.

We stayed for three nights in mid-August in a superior double room on the ground floor. Parking was convenient, on the side of the hotel. The room had two twin beds pushed together, a couch and chair, as well as a coffee table and desk. The room was exceptionally light and airy--the corner room allowed for windows to open facing two directions, giving lots of light and a cross-breeze. Lighting was probably a bit better than your usual dark European hotel room. This is a charming family-run hotel, and we very much enjoyed our stay. We thoroughly recommend Tanums Gestgifveri to use as a base in exploring the delightful Bohuslan Coast of Sweden.

Their in-house restaurant (actually one building over from the hotel) was quite good. Each night they offered a main course, with soup/salad, and dessert for a fixed price, although you can order any one of these ala carte if you are not so hungry. A traditional dinner of fish stew was also offered--so the menu was limited, but the food was very very good, if a bit expensive--to be expected in Sweden. Their wine list was one of the best we encountered in Sweden, but again, not cheap. the restaurant was closed Sunday and Monday, and we found only limited options in the small town of Tanumshede.

To find the hotel from Highway E6, take the Tanumshede 163 exit, turn right at the church, then left at the next intersection, and the hotel will be on the right in one block. The hotel is renovating in about a year, in an effort to better capture the historical nature of the property. the restaurant is the oldest continually operating eatery in Sweden.

Room Tip: Room 14 was excellent, with windows opening on two sides.
