Almost like a dream after the hustle and bustle of Phnonm Penh. The rooms are so beautifully furnished, far from any expected tent experience. Such gorgeous, tranquil settings are rare and wonderful. The food was good, the staff just marvelous. Please go, you will be so glad you did!

Room Tip: I did not see any bad rooms at this property

We loved this place. Very tranquil after a long flight and hectic Bangkok. Only one small hassle was noise coming from a neighbours tv. Staff handled it well but I would question if there is really a need for tv in a place like this. We stayed 2 days & that was about right as activities are limited.

Dear ClareMyer,

We were very happy to have you at 4Rivers. You have been very good to our team, extremely understanding, sharing this concern with us and allowing us to solve it for you.

We were (are) extremely sorry for how the other guests behaved, despite the advice we gave them re: keeping the tv volume down, so as not to ruin the tranquility of the location.

We have already taken out the tv's in the tents, so our guests can enjoy the sounds of the birds and sicada's...

The tv's will only be available upon request, with the resort manager, ensuring that the tv user understands very well why this is only upon request. Indeed, there are some individuals who need this entertainment.

Our team looks forward to hosting you again in the near future...

We wish you more beautiful and exciting travels!

Warmest regards,

Anna Pawlik-Szocs

We were slightly skeptical about 4 Rivers Floating Lodge, mainly because it was such a long drive from Phonm Penh, but when we got there we knew that this was a special place! Our tented accommodation lived up to our expectations and the cuisine was good especially considering where we were! I would say that we found the service outstanding and the environment was very friendly. We were not bothered by insects and diving into the river directly from our tent was blissful. The excursion to the waterfall with a short trek through the forest and kayak trip was great fun, and the visit to the fishing village and school was culturally very interesting although the kayak through the mangroves was a little disappointing. But there really isn't much else to do

Dear Jocelyn B,

Our month of March started wonderfully with your review!

Thank you very much for your generous words and warm appreciation of our services.

I am super happy that the insects cooperated, and gave you a very nice stay.

May i ask for more comments, please, on the kayaking in the mangroves. These mangroves are very important to the ecosystem here, that is why we encourage our guests to explore this, as this is very much a part of the Cardamoms rainforest.

I do hope you would be able to find the time to reach us so we could learn more from you on how we could improve this activity.

We hope to welcome you again in the very near future!

Warmest regards,

Anna Pawlik-Szocs

Fantastic location, lovely local staff and beautiful accommodation.
We stayed for 3 nights and unfortunately had to move from a lovely double tent to the worst tent, a twin, on the resort West 1 for our last night This tent is the nearest from the landing and if you are at all sea sick it will affect you.The tent rocks (not in a good way) whenever there is any movement.
The food was disappointing, although we did have some superb courses. There was a tendency to overcook, eggs at breakfast fish/meat for dinner.Be clear with the staff and they will cook as requested
We liked the employment of young local people who had obviously been very well trained. They were delightful

Room Tip: Avoid at all cost West 1 and if possible North 1

Dear Hopsgc,

I remember so well how difficult it was for me to remind you that there is indeed a need to move to another tent on your last day. This is really a pity because if your stay with us was booked more in advance by your travel agency, you could have gotten the room location you wanted.

It's always affecting our whole team when one of our guests is not having a good stay. We exhausted all possible options to try to avoid this changing of room. But as what your travel agency advised you, there's a need to move.

Although it was bit of a surprise, when in the first tent you stayed in, North #2 (N2), which is only 2 tents away from the common area (or landing), you did not remark about the movement (the rocking of the tent). You also commented that the balcony was smaller, when in fact, the tents are of uniform size, even it's private balconies. I believe you were just unhappy moving to West 1. The guests who checked out before you went to West 1 were sisters from Europe. They stayed in West 1 for 4 Nights, and they loved it there!

On another note, thank you for mentioning about the meals - some superb, some not well prepared. I have discussed this with my F&B manager, and we have addressed this with our kitchen team. It is indeed very challenging for us to train (and re-train) most of the staff who are coming from the village, who have no experience in hospitality... but we need to employ them, so they will stop logging and hunting, so we could educate them about the importance of preserving this pristine location... so we could preserve this part of the rainforest.

Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review about your stay with us.

Hope you have more fun and exciting travels in the future!

Warmest regards,

Anna Pawlik-Szocs

We have just returned from a holiday in Cambodia. We spent three nights at the lodge, a wonderful experience. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. We went on two river excursions with hotel staff, waterfall and mangrove rain forest. The guide was very informative. The rest of the time was spent kayaking, swimmming and drinking cocktails at sunset from our terrace. A five hour drive from Phonm Penh, but worth it!!

We spent 3 nights at the lodge in February 2013. The staff were incredibly welcoming and hospitable. The accommodation was excellent - we really enjoyed swimming in the river off the deck of our tent. The food is very good and reasonably priced.
The slight downer was the excursions. We had booked a full day, but it turned out to be nothing like the excursion we had planned and was rather dull, so check before you go. It was handled by an outside contractor.
The other point is that although our guide was intelligent and had excellent English, he had not been well trained in the local wildlife and nature (there is not much that moves). 'Take only photos, leave only footprints' is not a mantra that applied. We found some aspects of the excursions a bit uncomfortable for that reason.
However, it was the best of the 8 places where we stayed in Cambodia and Vietnam.

Dear JeffandLiz36,

Thank you very much for sharing this information with us.

We have employed the local staff because they are the key players in making this whole project sustainable. 4Rivers exists to be able to keep this part of the rainforest in tact. We can only do that by working with the villagers. We need to make them realize that eco-tourism is a much better source of livelihood, than illegal logging, hunting the wild, doing sand dredging, and planting rubber trees.

When we arrived in Tatai in Nov 2009, there were no birds around. They were all eaten up by the villagers. I've witnessed how cruel they can be to animals in the forest.

But since last year, birds have been flying around the resort, the wild boars were seen during our early morning treks...these are good signs!

The management of 4Rivers are continuously striving to educate our resort team, including the tour guides, some of them did not even reach secondary education, on how to deliver excellent customer service, showcasing the cambodian hospitality. And a big chunk of our time goes to teaching them how to "not take anything from the forest, just take a photo."

We certainly will take it to the next level... their understanding of the fauna and flora.

Your review is very important to us, and we have shared this with our team. This is one way for us to double check our local guide's ways when he takes the guests for a trek.

We could easily employ foreigners or expatriates to be our tour guide, but as we are committed to employ the local people in Tatai, because it is of utmost importance that they know and understand that this rainforest is very important to them, then we will try harder to make them better, so they could create a better trekking experience for you (hopefully, in the near future), and the other hotel guests in the future.

Thank you very much again for your kind words and for taking the time to write this review!

Have wonderful journeys ahead...

Warmest regards,

Anna Pawlik-Szocs

Absolutely fantastic! We spent only two days at the Lodge to try it out since we've never been there before. What a wonderful surprise! Next time we'll definitely stay longer. The Tents are luxurious and very comfortable, the staff extremely friendly and helpful and the food out of this world. There isn't very much to do, other than a few outings to see the sunset or a visit to the gorgeous Waterfall close by, however with the setting in the middle of the Rain Forrest with the clear river right in front of your own private terrace to swim in, what more could one ask for! If you want to get away from it all, this is the place to go.
