Great restaurant attached to what looks like a charming boutique hotel. Most days they have a buffet breakfast for 120 pesos (about $10 US) which is remarkably tasty and extensive. Besides made to order omelettes they had about ten different hot dishes - all Mexican and very good. That and fresh juice, delightful fresh fruit and coffee. Just a great breakfast.

My husband and I went there this weekend after shopping in the artisan market near by. It is only a few blocks away from the shopping streets. The location is safe and we walked to our car (parked only a few blocks away) without the feeling of beeping stranded or scared. The food was not bad. I had the cashew mole and it was the best mole variation I have tried. So, if you like mole, try this one. I especially enjoyed the nutty flavor cashew had accented the dish.

During our recent visit to Puebla, our last meal there was at La China...and we saved the best for last. Beautiful restaurant in a covered courtyard of an old colonial building. Great service from reception, to the maitre d' to the servers. A homemade salsa was prepared at our table in a molcajete (mortar bowl made of volcanic rock), with proper adjustments to spiciness for our different tastes. This was served with a starter of a molcajete with grilled onions, grilled nopal, avocado and queso fresco...and all served on fresh made corn tortillas being prepared on a comal just a few yards from us. We ordered light as we had been eating quite a bit on our trip: arrachera (skirt steak) very well prepared and tasty, nopal salad, red and green salsa chalupas (a poblana specialty) and fideo seco (noodles with a tasty chipotle sauce)...but by far the highlight was the Mole de Nuez de la India...or Cashew Mole. The incredibly savory mole sauce also included pumpkin seeds giving it a wholesome, light and earthy flavor that was so very succulent. The mole sauce was served over a beautifully grilled chicken breast...a very nice twist as often times moles are served over a plain boiled or broiled chicken breast. A great meal, with attentive service in beautiful surroundings...what more could we have asked for to end our trip to Puebla?

The City of Puebla claims to be the birthplace of this entree. Stories have it that this dish was invented by Catholic Nuns in celebration of Mexico's Independence from Spain. The Poblano Chile is stuffed with a mixture of fruits and meat (most often pork) and covered with a walnut white sauce sprinkled with cilantro and pomegranate seeds. From a visual standpoint, one ends up with the three colors of the Mexican flag

The service was exceptional, the setting beautiful and the entrees prepared perfectly! What else can one ask for?
