“Excellent Place to Stay”
Reviewed September 28, 2007

We stayed at this hotel during a driving tour of central Mexico. This was our favorite hotel of the entire trip. It used to be a neighborhood area, with the streets/alleys now serving as courtyards and access to the rooms. It was very clean and the service was good. It's not very fancy, but it's nice. We paid $117/night for a room with a queen bed. The two restaurants are okay, but nothing special. The location is great. It is a block off of the main street and within walking distance of anything in the central city. If you are driving, and are not familiar with the city of Zacatecas, I strongly recommend that you have good directions. The city is a challenge to drive in because of the one way and winding streets. We got lost and stopped to ask a local resident for directions to the hotel. She told us it would be too difficult to tell us, and she got in our vehicle and personally directed us to the hotel. We were amazed. Once you arrive at the hotel, driving is unnecessary and cars are parked in a garage nearby. Great city to visit and great place to stay.

Beautiful hotel!! Everything was perfect from the booking til the checkout. The room was new, the bathroom fully remodeled. The place is also perfectly located from everywhere. Definetly a must in Zacatecas.

We stayed one night at the Meson de Jobito after changing from the Hotel Casa Torres. The Hotel Casa Torres isn't listed on tripadvisor.com, but I can say that it was not the best deal. The hotel itself is nice and modern, though very small. We paid $150/night for a junior suite, but it was VERY small. The a/c leaked water all night and we had to call the front desk twice when the hot water was not on. They were nice enough and the art at the hotel is AMAZING, but I think they aren't super enthusiastic about American guests and would rather cater to Mexicans and Europeans.

So on to the Meson de Jobito - we were happy to meet the very friendly staff and check into a room where the a/c and hot water worked well. The outside of the hotel is gorgeous and the location is prime. But be forewarned that although the rooms are spacious and clean, they are very outdated and have old furniture and polyester comforters. Not that this is a big deal - we were very comfortable - just don't expect nice linens and updated furniture. But the continental breakfast is great and they will custom cook your eggs while you wait - a real treat and definintely makes it worth the $.

  • Liked — location, staff
  • Disliked — outdated rooms
  • Tips/Secrets — take advantage of the buffet breakfast

We just traveled to Zacatecas for a wedding. We stayed at El Meson de Jovito. This is a beautiful, unique hotel. Service was excellent. From the front desk personel to the bellboys, everyone was very polite and accomodating. This hotel is situated walking distant from the downtown section. Taxis are really inexpensive. Many fine eateries are located throughout the downtown district. The city itself is unique and friendly. We would definitely go back to tour and shop some more!

We stayed at the Meson de Jobito in June 2000. What a wonderful place! The layout is most interesting and the room was large, clean and top notch.

The hotel is between two nice parks (front and rear), and is within walking distance to the center of town. Speaking of the town, what a fabulous collection of colonial architecture you will find here. The town is compact and beautiful.

Make sure you find our favorite fruit stand. Exit the back of the hotel (where the driveway is ), turn left, and walk to the corner. The all mango serving is excellent as well as the mixed fruit serving. Make sure you include the lime juice and chile powder option.

The mine tour is very interesting. I suggest you take it , and then when you exit, take the gondola ride across the valley that is Zacatecas. Once you get to the other side, walk (don't take the bus) back down to town. If you do this, you will get a feeling of how compact and wonderful Zacatecas is.

Zacatecas takes time to get to but is very rewarding once you get there.
