“Amazing view and location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 9, 2010

The location of the Hotel is amazing! near the cathedral with a wonderful view, I've been there with my girlfriend and I don't hesitate to recommend the place, to stay there and have a good time. I'm from Germany, I was there for holidays, during new year, the personal service is good, the employees speaks fluent english (good for me), food at the restaurant is tasty with different options, rooms are cool and in good conditions, and of course the bar, I loved it. During the night you can walk through the downtown and enjoy the turned on of the Cathedral lights, without going too far away from your place.

this hotel is obviously about to go bust.
it probably started with good intentions but has since lost its way.
the suites are strangely appointed. mine had very little natural light, poor ventilation and bad drains. the concept was odd - two levels - downstairs living area and bedroom upstairs. mixture of baroque and rustic styles in decoration that just didnt work.
the hotel has that "almost clean but not quite" feel to it.
i would never stay here again. way overpriced.
the lady on the reception more interested in the computer than receiving guests. stay away!!!
morelia has yet to find a real world class hotel. the best in the downtown is probably the virrey de mendoza but honestly... having stayed in almost all, do not have high expectations.
give san miguel suites a wide berth. it's gross

First of all i want to say i was there last september and I really had a great business trip in this hidden gem. I read some reviews before coming and decided to come because of the great location and I found out it has the most beautiful view of the cathedral and main plaza.

I was personally greeted by the owner which was a really friendly guy and he told me he also owned Gallerias Suites which I plan on staying on a longer business trip. (I read in a bad review here that there are three hotels in this chain but that is not true, they own only Gallerias and San Miguel).

THe room was great and we were told even the president greeted the people from that same balcony so it is part of Mexican History.

We are looking forward at spending more time at Suites San MIguel and even though it doesnt have parking garage, there are a lot of parking lots within one or two blocks of the hotel.

Still the view of the cathedral from the room is one of the highlights of our stay.

First of all, I want to say that I really stay at the "Casa the los dulces sueños hotel" but its the same chain...so be careful.
When we arrive they didint want to respect our reservation..so we have to wait like 10 minutes till they arrange everything...the first day we didint have hot water....so we have to wait till they repair it, but they never did it....yo imagine take your vacation shower with coooooold water...
Beside that the dont have a parking lot, even when they say they do...
After that we wanted to go to a Fiesta mexicana to celebrate independence day..and they have it in Suites san miguel but they promise: mariachi, 1 free glass of a national drink and lot more.... and we only get a lowsy dinner.....the mariachi never came....

Some please ve careful....with this 3 hotels ( Hotel Casa de los dulces sueños, Suites san MIguel and Hotel Galeria )
and ask them everything before you go. or just skip it

We got to the hotel and they did not have our reservation. Luckily we had our confirmation printed out and could show proof of our reservation. They still did not want to give us a room. They had no more rooms of the size we reserved but they had larger rooms. They finally agreed to move the man in a small room to a large room so we could have the small room. We waited for them to move his belongings. When we fianlly got into the room it was nice. It has a living area with a couch and table and chairs downstairs as well as a bathroom. Upstairs there is a bedroom and bathroom. The bathtub is large and the furnishings are nice. There are no windows so it is a bit dark and closed in. You can walk upstairs and have a good view from the roof. The air conditioner did not work so we asked it to be fixed. They only have one staff person there so nothing is done quickly. We also asked for toilet paper. Hours later we still had no toilet paper and noone had come about the air. Remember there are no windows so it was becoming quite hot. We asked for a cup of coffee and they said they woukd have to get it from another hotel. We asked about the restaurant and it was closed permanently. We decided to check out and find another hotel. They told us then that they had been having problems with the air in that room and would we like another room but we told them we just wanted to check out. My husband had to wait 30 minutes because they had to send someone to another hotel to run our credit card through a credit card machine. We went next door and it was fabulous.

I chose the Suites San Miguel solely for their aircon/heaters because I need a heated room in the winter (even the Virrey de Mendoza doesn't
have heat). It worked excellently, and that was what I was paying for.
Otherwise, it is very nice and comfortable, but too expensive for what
you get, unless you have tons of money and don't care.

I chose room 507 in the back, so the noise wasn't a problem. The critical thing is that all the rooms, except 501 and 502 in front (the
noisy ones with a view), are split level. You have to walk up a somewhat rickety (but stylish), winding set of steps to get to the bedroom/bathroom area.

This takes away from the feel of having a large suite. I didn't use the living room area downstairs at all, and having things split was somewhat inconvenient. Both floors have TVs.

The upper bedroom area and bath were very nice and comfortable, but not luxurious. Almost all hotels in Mexico take a few minutes to get hot water, and this was fine.

The staff is extremely friendly. The location is outstanding, right across from the church. I have stayed in the Virrey de Mendoza, and while they are nicer, they are more expensive, without aircon/heat.

Overall, I really found this hotel to be very good, but still way overpriced. Most of the rooms were empty during my stay, which was during Christmas, probably due to the price.

  • Liked — The room have an wall aircon/heater, and excellent location.
  • Disliked — Split level room, much too expensive.

Something is amiss. As with earlier reviews, we are the only ones in the hotel. We are in room 501, and in general, it is a nice well apointed room.

However, while it does provide a great view of the plaza and cathedral across the street, it is EXTREMELY noisy. Dont believe it when they tell you the wooden shutters will block out the noise.

Always leave an extra ten minutes in your schedule when it includes taking a shower. It takes quite a while for the hot water to come, and when it does, WATCH OUT! it is very easy to get scalded, even after you have stabilixed the temperature the first time,...the water frequently goes from ok back to scalding.

Staff is friendly and smile a lot, but with the exception of "Phil" provide no added value.

The restaurant and bar are still closed.

All in all, for the price, this hotel is over-rated.
