My partner and I recently booked 4 nights at Casona Rosa. We were there for Dia De Los Muertos so they were very busy and fully booked, however we were offered a room across the street at their friends place which acts as an "overflow" in busy times.

This did not affect how welcome we were made by the crew at Casona Rosa, and our hosts across the street were the most wonderful people which made our trip really special. It was within walking distance from everything and Maria at Casona Rosa had organised a tour for Dia De Los Muertos which was magical!

The accomodation had everything we needed in a beautiful historic house, and we always felt perfectly safe. We would definitely return to Casona Rosa if we ever go back to Morelia.

We were recommended this B/B by friends. After looking at the pictures, contacted the B/B about 3 nights and 2 1/2 days. They recommended a taxi driver that offered his service as a tour guide. We toured the villages with him and got to meet a famous Mexican artist at his work shop. The artist's daughter gave us a tour of their home and his studio plus her own studio- what a morning.
The feeling at the little hotel makes you feel at home. The 2 negative aspects of the trip was the problem with our debit and credit cards and the students were causing problems. Thursday the students had blocked the highway between Morelia and Patzquaro and were looking for donations- felt like you had to make a donation. The weeks before the students had burned buses and police cars. The hotel arranged to have hour express bus tickets to Ixtapa to be delivered to the hotel on Wed. and we paid for the tickets then. Our tour guide came by the B/B at 6:15am to take us to the bus station for our 7am departure. If you have not taken a express bus in Mexico, you must. You would have thought you were flying- when we left the station we were given snacks and water. Each seat had a screen to watch movies in Spanish- the amount of room each seat offered with a foot rest that comes down from the seat in front of you.
I can not say enough about Casa Rosa. We have been going to Ixtapa for 13 years and this is the first time we flew into another city to tour. We enjoyed touring the different villages between Morelia and Patzquaro for each has it's on product- 1 may be pottery, another be wood carvings, another furniture, another copper. Casa Rosa makes it a perfect place to stay if you are looking for a home atmosphere. We look for small family hotels when we do a few night stays. By staying at Casa Rosa, I can see why they are rated number 1. We do want to go back and when we do this is where we will stay and make arrangement with our taxi/tour guide who took us under his wings when we were seeing the country side- he wanted to come and take us to the bus station even though he had a 20 min drive from where he lived. Being in Morelia you are surrounded by history and that is what we like

My husband and I spent 5 wonderful days at Casa Rosa! We stayed in the charming Frida Khalo room which was beautifully appointed with Frida Khalo memorabilia. Very tastefully done! Casa Rosa is centrally located so we walked to shop the local vendors, visit historical sites and have dinner. Rose recommended great restaurants within walking distance. We happened to visit during her birthday celebration and were delighted to share in her merriment. She served tasty local food and we danced to great music performed by Pamela, a Venezuelan Latin jazz musician and her band. Mucho beuno! The Casa Rosa staff was friendly and very helpful. I couldn't ask for better service. We felt safe and well cared for. We plan to make Morelia one of our regular vacation spots, and Casa Rosa our second home..

This was our 2nd visit to Morelia, and it was a great choice with Casona Rosa! You can find a room anywhere. But what makes a visit into a terrific experience is the host. Rose did everything she could to make us feel at home and truly explore Morelia. Her tips on restaurants were perfect (eat at Lu, it's awesome), tips on getting around and what to see were great. Tips like the building with the stained glass ceiling that isn't in any guidebooks.
We like art and ceramics, and she gave us a tour of her extensive collection - her home is almost a museum of artesan crafts, just beautiful! The room we chose was the Colonial Room 2 room suite, so we could spread out cameras and maps on the large private dining room's table (!). Photos show that room, with it's beautiful mural. In the morning, the kitchen was open to us to make ourselves peanut butter toast and we were on our way to explore. Beds were very comfortable and Rose had extra touches in the room to make it like home, with decorations everywhere, reading lamps, a writing desk, umbrella, nightlight, etc.
What made the visit 100% perfect was Rose's arrangement with Jesus, the perfect driver/guide. We traveled to Patzcuaro next, and spent 8 hrs with Jesus exploring towns, artists in their workshops, pyramid ruins and more. Couldn't ask for more! Last visit to Morelia we stayed at a B&B on the other side of the historic center. No personality, no assistance, just a bed and eggs. Casona Rosa was great. We are ex-pats living in Mexico and this was one of our best finds to make the trip FUN. Enjoy your stay.

Room Tip: Colonial Suite has lots of room, fresh air from windows, occasionally mid-afternoon chatter from liv...

We just returned from 10 marvelous days in Michoacan – five days in Morelia staying at Casona Rosa and five days in Patzcauro staying at Casa Werma. Centrally located, wonderfully welcoming, artistically and imaginatively appointed with many examples of the stellar crafts of the surrounding villages, Casona Rosa is the only place to stay when visiting the beautiful capital city of Morelia. The owner, Rose, greets all her guests as if they were part of her family and is welcoming them into her home. Each suite is unique and has its own particular charm. Rose and Jesus will arrange tours of the many villages and artist's studios in the area. If you visit over a Saturday, do not miss the lighting of the Cathedral facade and fireworks, a drink in one of the many cafes under the porticos, and a visit to the wonderful local markets near Casona Rosa.

Casa Rosa is a warm welcoming place in the heart of the beautiful city of Morelia in Michoacan Mexico. When you are there, you are treated like family in regards to how welcome you are made to feel but all the while experiencing first class accomodations. The beds are the most comfortable ones I have slept on in any hotel in Mexico, exquisite pillows and bedding. If you choose to have Maria, the house manager, cook for you, you will experience. Maria speaks fluent English and is a wealth of knowledge about the area and the country. Rose, the owner, director is a warm and inviting person who loves to entertain and meet people from all over the world, once you stay at her "home" you feel like family! The Casa is in a beautiful area in the central part of the city, within walking distance to everything you need and want to see and do. I would recommend this place to anyone who wishes a homey, comfortable and truely amazing stay in one of the best cities in Michoacan.

I stayed at Casa Rosa for 2 1/2 weeks, the atmosphere was wonderful, sleeping accomodations were good also. The artwork and furnishings make it feel like being home and I fell in love with the Casa, the people and Morelia.

Maria is a wealth of knowledge and very helpful "the most wonderful woman" and kind who speaks English and Spanish fluently. Maria always makes sure all of her guests are well taken care of. If you get the chance to have Maria make her famous chilequiles you are very lucky it is a wonderful treat! Maria is also willing to go on tours with guests as a guide.

Rose is a dear sweet woman who loves Morelia and its people. She has an abundance of knowledge of the area and Mexico. She is also willing to go on tours etc...

Nancy the housekeeper is a helpful sweet woman who is learning some English and her main language is Spanish.

They have a friend named Jesus who does tours who is also very personable and knowledgeable about the area and the areas around Morelia. He is also bilingual and speaks fluent English as well as his native language of Spanish.

Morelia has everything within walking distance, the market, laundry, restaurants, entertainment from street performers to local bars with bands, the symphony and the list goes on! If you don't prefer walking there are an abundance of taxis, comvis, and buses.

I would highly recommend this! I also hope to return there someday soon!
