“One of several museums in Morelia”
Reviewed March 5, 2014

There are lots of museums in Morelia. We were recently there for a full week so we saw quite a few of them. This one focuses this part of Mexico (the city of Morelia and the state of Michoacan) and has a mainly historical focus. It's also in another of the many nice old buildings that you constantly run across in Morelia and that is part of the allure of this museum. We did happen to go on a Sunday when the museum is free. Your ability to read Spanish will determine how long you are there. But even if your Spanish is not very good (or if nonexistent) go anyway for the things the museum has to see.

“Ancient artifacts from around Michoacan!”
Reviewed November 16, 2013 via mobile

As a jeweler, I was impressed with the amount of ancient jewelry in the display cases. Much of the jewelry was intact, but there were several display cases with nothing but beads. Really fascinating!

“Not good for English speakers”
Reviewed January 8, 2013

I don't speak a lot of Spanish and the museum had nearly nothing in English or any language other than Spanish. I walked in, had a quick stroll around and came out none the wiser.

“Learn all about the Indian tribes here!!”
Reviewed June 18, 2012

Go on Sunday, its free. But go anyday, as it is not expensive and very rewarding as it is in a restored typical mansion and covers the every day life of the Indian tribes centuries ago.. you will be surprised, as the everyday clothing of present day residents, has not changed throughout the centuries.

“Learn about History and Craft Development”
Reviewed May 28, 2012

Even for those not enthralled with museums, this one should be on your list, certainly above the city museum. You can visit it in a half hour or so. The staff is very helpful in answering questions and offering information. You'll learn about the pre-Hispanic cultures, the colonial period, and contemporary Michoacán.
