The location is great. The restaurant is fine. The staff is helpful. But...
1. We could only reserve 1 night on the internet. The second was by the phone. The lady assured us that we wouldn't have to change rooms. And we didn't, but they put us on a 1 bed room instead of the 2 beds I reserved. By the way, the picture of the room on the internet is deceitful.

Now the big letdown: The room was unbelievable hot. I mean, we could barely sleep. No AC, poor ventilation, a noisy and worthless fan. Only way to lower the heat was to open the window that looks to a inner light yard / kitchen. The problem is that the kitchen staff arrives early and noisely. We had to call the front desk for them to lower their volume.

Some of the worst -sleepwise- 2 nights I've spent. A shame, again, because of the great location.

Room Tip: Beware of 208

Just spent 3 nights here, Rm 120. Furnishings and bath were very good and comfortable. Had a window of sorts with a view of a service corridor. The room was too warm for my taste with no a/c but only a fan. There are only 6 rooms with a view window to the main plaza across the street and a tiny balcony. Those rooms are 102, 103, 104, 105, 106 and 107. Can't beat the price of $68 with cont. breakfast and taxes (Expedia). The hotel's restaurant, Lu, is exceptionally good.

Room Tip: Rooms 102-107 are best as they have a window to the outside for ventilation.

Only 1 night, found it to be an unbeatable location, comfortable rooms, everything worked well. Small elevator which was a problem for groups but only small so just use the stairs! Was a large difference in room quality depending where abouts your room was but none were bad/unusable.

We spent 3 nites at this hotel, having travelled by bus from Zihua to attend a soccer match and do some sightseeing. The afternoon manager, Jose Govea, was incredibly helpful, in assisting us to get tickets to the game(which was a sell-out), enlisting the help of a friend and fellow soccer fan, Gilardo Becerra, to pick up the tickets and deliver them to us, a feat which we could never have figured out on our own. Gildardo also helped us out, when we were told that we could not take cameras in to the stadium, by safely returning our cameras to the hotel, in his taxi. Gildardo's taxi company is called "Lindo Michoacan", he speaks very good English, and he was honest and helpful.
We also wanted to explore Patzcuaro and area, and asked Jose for suggestions.Despite being very busy with hotel clients, Jose took the time to arrange a tour for the next day with another trusted tour operator,Rodrigo Munoz Jiminez, of "Great tours Morelia".We were picked up at our hotel the next day by Rodrigo, in a very comfortable Suburban, and were given the tour of a lifetime, stopping at some beautiful historical sites, given a hands-on demonstration of copper pot making, and treated to a delicious traditional meal.Rodrigo was also a great resource for historical information about the area. We feel we received excellent value for this tour, and were returned to our hotel after almost 11 hours, just in time for the spectacle of the cathedral light-up, which should never be missed.
All of the staff at this hotel were helpful and very friendly, and we were told by one of the housekeepers that she feels like part of a big family working at the hotel Casino. Our Spanish is rudimentary, but everyone tried to help as much as they were able. Jose's English was perfect, and he made our entire stay more enjoyable, and memorable, than we had ever hoped for.
The option of the continental breakfast is well worth it...fresh fruit, granola with yogurt, delicious fresh buns, and your choice of coffees...all included.
This is a great place to experience the wonderful city of Morelia, and we highly recommend it.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the square are noisier, as the music goes on until after 2 on weekends, but we feel the ambience is worth the price of a pair of earplugs.

Hotel Casino is a charming hotel with a wonderful location just across from the cathedral. My friend and I were able to walk to all of the sites we wanted to see with the hotel as our base. It was very clean and secure. We stayed here for 5 days, with a trip in between. The first night, we had a beautiful and spacious double room with a balcony and view of the cathedral! It was wonderful and if this had been my only day at this hotel, I would have rated it a 5, hands down.

However, on our return, they had only singles available. We were fine with this, until we found out that we were paying almost the exact same price (890 pesos) for a room that was half the size, had one window that faced a brick wall and the other window opened up to the center of the hotel next to the blender in the bar, and a bathroom smaller than many RV bathrooms. After one day, they were able to put us back in a non-balcony double that was much larger and more comfortable.

Overall, I really enjoyed this hotel. The staff was both helpful and friendly, the food at the downstairs restaurant was great (order the chilaquiles verde!), and the amenities are nice (free washing machines, computer, treadmill, etc). I would recommend this hotel without hesitation, although I would suggest bringing ear plugs for sleeping and asking for a double room ahead of time!

Room Tip: Ask for a double room, balcony if possible
