While Hotel de la Soledad purveys a tranquil attractive patio removed from the street hubbub one finds along the Arcos, its food has now twice disappointed myself and travel partner Peregringo. At first it was a challenge to persuade the waiter to bring me a glass of purified water since I forego plastic-bottled water out of an ecological consciousness, but at last he succumbed to his guilt over littering the planet with plastic and brought me a glass of H2O.
We decided on Moreliana fare, but the Sopa Tarasca was a paltry amount, with no added cheese, cream, avocado or crumbled fried chiles distributed over the top as is the custom. The tortilla chips had been added and stirred in ahead and thus were limp and tasteless.
Our enchiladas sat sodden above an unappetizing piece of Romaine lettuce below, greasy and flung onto the plate with little concern for appeal.
We had a nighttime meal two years ago in this garden which was so non-descript that fortunately I cannot recall what we had.
Hotel de la Soledad remains a pleasant respite from the street, but one should probably stick to having simply a glass of wine and enjoying the peace.
