Lake Waikeremoana is stunning and so worth the drive to get to it. We travelled inland from the East coast, when we turned the corner and had our first view if the Lake, I was totally WOWED. (I have travelled extensively around the world, and seen some amazing places/sites, so it takes quite a lot to Wow me!) We were very lucky that we had a beautiful sunny day, clear blue skies (and this was over the Easter holidays). The campsite is right on the waters edge. We were travelling in a campervan and picked a site furthest away from the reception as here we had a Lakefront site, what a beautiful view of the sparkling water. It is a very tranquil area, has lovely walks long or short, all around. We have an infant and young child, so only did a couple of short walks, we walked to the visitor centre and then about 20 mins from there, made it to a waterfall, which again was very impressive. (Sounded like a mini Niagra) We sat out at night and the sky was a blanket of stars, it was truly amazing. The campsite has a well stocked shop, fuel, food incl meat, hot pies, ice blocks, personal items, etc etc. It was very good value for money. There was a kitchen/dining area which all looked clean and tidy, this had lovely views of the Lake, though we cooked in our van as had our own wonderful views. There are a couple of toilet/shower blocks, the ones closer to the reception a bit more modern than the ones near us, as expected for a rural campsite. If the weather is looking good then this place is an absolute MUST DO!
