This was the first time we had stayed on the Black Isle and we went knowing very little about the area except that dolphins can be spotted from Channory Point. The cottage turned out to be everything one could want. Cosy inside, very well equipped and with a lovely warm secluded garden. The owner Carol was very welcoming. The weather was perfect and we did indeed see dolphins. Rosemarkie itself is very special and we spent a lot of time on the beach. We also enjoyed eating at the Plough Inn and Crofters. Go and you will lose your heart to Rosemarkie and to the dolphins.
This cottage was the perfect base to explore Black Isle. It's a stone's throw away from the beach and is very quiet. The cottage is well equipped and very spacious for four people. I'd highly recommend it.
Rowan Cottage is well located for those seeking to explore The Black Isle and the area around Inverness and its sattelite towns and villages. Clean and well equipped to suit four guests with just about every convenience they would require in a characterful tastefully modified period cottage.
The property is fantastic apart from the sofa in the family room just off the kitchen. It is way too soft being full of feathers and not at all comfortable for your back. However in the sitting room to the right of the front door the sofa is more than adequate. All rooms well decorated with little splashes of colour here and there. The bedrooms are light and airy with a nice view over towards the sea and mountains.
All kitchen appliances were easy to use and the cottage was more than warm enough on a cold night.
Parking was ok on the car park to the side of the cottage, but would recommend parking on the front to load and unload your vehicle.
Could do with a tumble dryer for drying wet clothes as having to use the clothes airer and heating takes too long. This may increase the letting costs but would be worth paying that little extra for the convenience.
All in all had a great Christmas holiday and would book again in the future.
Rosemarkie has a beautiful beach only a minutes walk from the cottage as well as a lovely wooded glen with good paths up to 2 waterfalls. Chanonry Point, famous for the bottle nosed dolphins, is walking distance away. The beach can also be walked in the opposite direction to a cave. The cottage is a great base for visiting other places on the Black Isle, such as Fortrose, Cromarty and Jemimaville (for a great RSPB birdwatching hide) as well as further afield to Strathpeffer Dingwall and Beauly. Coming back to Rowan cottage is always warm, welcoming and a joy to spend time cooking dinner in the very well designed and well equipped kitchen/conservatory. An all round great place for a cottage break in this part of Scotland.
I have already reviewed Rowan Cottage but I see you are still saying that the visage has a butchers. There is only a small Spa shop but Butcher, Bakers and Coop in Fortrose
