We stayed two nights at the Victory the staff were really friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We had dinner one night and the food was excellent. I have celiac disease and the staff were very well trained in allergies which we were grateful for. The room was very comfortable and the shower was excellent.

Not a full pub but were told a 45 min wait for food. Ordered drinks. 2 x Cokes and got Pepsi (not offered alternative). We initially ordered steak pie and plant burgers only to be told THEN, that neither were available. So.... Ordered 2 haloumi burgers with SWEET POTATO FRIES AND RED CABBAGE SLAW. Two lasagnes with SALAD and chips. After 45 mins, the lasagnes arrived, minus salad. We waited another 10 mins before the two burgers arrived in the form of 2 x BRISKET burgers, not haloumi... When they finally arrived 10 mins later, no slaw and normal chips with a couple of sweet potatoes fries thrown on the top. We asked where our salads were and were told they ran out of salad. Asked why we got normal fries and hardly any sweet potato and they couldn't explain. The table next to us had no cutlery and after waiting, took some from an adjacent table, again half the things they ordered were not on the plate. We complained to the shift supervisor who couldnt apologise enough saying that the 'unexpectedly sunny weather' had brought a busier service than usual. Sorry but nice weather = people coming out, don't they check the weather forecast?? The shift supervisor was very apologetic and couldn't not understand the catalogue of errors herself. we ended up being offered vouchers for another visit....no thanks...once bitten (minus salad) soshe said the meal was free. We did insist on paying for the drinks we had. Top Tip....check before you order they actually have whats on the menu and check they have seen the weather forecast before they order supplies!!!

Dropped in for lunch over the New Year and wish we hadn’t. If I could give it zero I would have done.
We had cod and chips which was an insult. The batter wasn’t even crisp. The chips were cold and hard. The peas were the only thing that we couldn’t criticise. We appreciate that at this time of year you may need to use frozen dishes but surely someone can learn to cook them. As for the staff, I see more life on the beachand it cost almost £30 to 2 people which was also a joke. Stick to beer only and eat elsewhere!

We obviously visited on a day when they expected fewer diners because the staff just couldn't cope with the amount of people. It took 10 minutes to find a menu. They'd run out of some dishes. Once we had ordered, it took over 30 minutes for the food to arrive. Surrounding tables stayed uncleaned 30 minutes after diners had left. The food was awful. We both had scampi and chips. The scampi coating was hard and overcooked while the chips were tiny like the dregs of the fryer. The mushy peas were cold. At £15 each, I felt the food was overpriced. Most definitely our first and last visit.

We took a walk along the beach at Mersea to celebrate my wife’s birthday and ended up here at The Victory. Everyone we came into contact with was cheery and helpful, even though they were busy. Our lunch was good and fairly priced we thought, however it did take a while to come. But as I said earlier they were busy so it wasn’t a problem at all. We all enjoyed our food and left happy.
