Have visited on many occasions, and always enjoyed it,and this time was as good as ever.Food of a very high standard, service with a smile, even when very busy.Lovely sitting outside on a hot sunny day. With the kids enjoying themselves in the play area, they just never want to leave, and we would like to stay as well. Will return again soon.

Me and my partner came here about a month ago and were really looking forward to enjoying a nice evening and meal as we had a couple of times before (although do feel the dishes are slightly over priced) but were very disappointed.
When we first arrived it was very quiet so we thought it was a bonus as we wouldn't have to wait a while for our meals. How wrong was I. Firstly, after being seated at our table, we were left to wait for about ten minutes to even look at a menu, which I had to ask for.....having been a waitress myself, surely you give a menu to a customer when you seat them??
Anyway, customers were starting to come in and make orders for food which we were noticing being served their food before us even though we were the first people in?? So all in all we had to wait 45 MINUTES for our meal. If you're not that hungry I suppose it might not seem that bad but when you have been saving yourself for a meal its a bloody long time! If it had of come any later we would of left. So after waiting this long you would expect a fabulous meal, but just a mediocre cajun chicken and beef burger. I don't like to not support my local business' but I really do feel this pub makes a better bar than restaurant as it is very hit and miss.

Thank you for your review. I am afraid with the description of about a month ago I cannot check back to see why your service was not up to our usual standards. If you could let me know the exact date of your stay I can find out what went wrong. Did you raise your concerns at the time, as we always do a check back and I am surprised that we weren't given the opportunity at the time to put things right. Please accept my apologies anyway.

Our group of 4 couples stayed at the Victory.

It was spotless; any problems solved immediately.

The Victory is not your home and things are not necessarily how you would like them but, d'you know what - everybody does their level best at The Victory to make your stay as enjoyable and homely as possible. All you have to do is ask if you need something or tell them if something is wrong and they will do their best to make your stay as welcoming, friendly and helpful as possible. We did have 2 Garden Rooms and 2 "rooms with a view" but we don't go to bed before 9pm when the children do or 11pm when the bar closes so we all had both a decent and peaceful sleep . Nearly overslept in the mornings though (breakfast between 9am and 10am) for the peace and quiet! The breakfasts deserve 5 star so, in our opinion The Victory at Mersea really is a good place to sink a few - whether it be pots of tea, pints of beer or bottles of wine!!!

Room Tip: all rooms are v. quiet at night - if you want to pay the extra have the sea view - otherwise the gar...

The accommodation was comfortable and clean. Area for parking although gets a squeeze in summer. Nicely positioned for walks, the town and many eateries.
One disappointment was the positioning of the children's play area at the back of the garden rooms, meant peace and quiet was not possible until quite late in the evening (9pm) For couples who are spending a romantic weekend could find this frustrating.
Breakfast at the victory fair choice and good sized.

Room Tip: Perhaps book the room above the inn not the garden rooms as next to children's play area, gets v...

Please accept my apologies for the noise from the children's play area, although we do ask parents to take responsibility for their children (and keep the noise down) at times the children do get rther excited and can be noisy.

I have stayed at this hotel/inn before but they now have 3 garden rooms (one of which we stayed in)which are at the rear of the inn and fenced off and also away from the noise of the bar. The room we stayed in was 2 storeys (room 6) and could sleep 4 people. There is a nice patio area but unfortunately there was only 2 chairs to our area although as I say the room sleeps up to 4 people. The rooms are finished to a high standard with all the amenities you would expect in this day and age. The tiles to the shower area are already showing slight signs of yellowing grout, other than that the room was spotless. I also looked at the other 2 rooms as my relatives were staying in them at the time. Again very nice rooms (one of them was disabled friendly) with a wet room. All of the staff are very friendly and do their best to make you feel at home.

Room Tip: The rooms over the bar in the main building are a bit noisy if you want to retire early. the middle...

Thank you for your review and for pointing out about the 2 chairs. Since the rooms have been built there haven't had many occasions when guests could sit outside!!!!!!! and as the room is mainly used by families with children, we hadn't thought about it. We certainly will now and get 2 more chairs, thank you for bringing it to our attention. Gill

I booked this as a surprise for my partner as a birthday treat. We were made so welcome and our room 3 was amazing and very clean. Our room had a balcony and a Lovely view. Dinner in evening was perfect, the owners put up a birthday banner and the desert had candles. The staff were excellent and nothing was too much on such a very very hot day. Fab breakfast and plenty of it. Would well recommend it.

Room Tip: I paid a little bit more to have a room with balcony to the front of hotel. We did stay on a Sunday...

Lunch of fish and chips x 1 chicken x 2, the fish was fine but did have a few bones which you would expect, too many for our OAP though, the Cajun chicken was really good but the salad was so small it was more of a garnish, for sweet we had the pears which were slightly on the hard side for our taste but it was presented nicely, the restaurant has one of the best views on the island which is a bonus, the staff were fine but no friendly chit chat which you get in some places but maybe that's the way it is there. Not that it bothered us as we were there to eat, all in all it was okay although we felt the fish and chips was value for money the chicken was a little overpriced for the portion size,

I am sorry if your fish had a few too many bones, but glad that you enjoyed it overall. If the staff we not as chatty as normal, that was because we were so very busy due to this amazing weather.
