Victory at Mersea
Reviewed July 30, 2012

We escaped London in the 30 degree heat and drove down to Mersea Island, one of our favourite places to visit in summer or winter when we need to get away and smell the sea. Having only camped on Mersea before, we were unaware that there was such a lovely place to stay on the island right on the waterfront with wonderful views. We booked 2 rooms for ourselves and our teenagers, and could not have been happier.

The children had the largest room with king sized bed and double futon, overlooking the marina - and what a huge room it was! And their bathroom had a jacuzzi bath that could fit 4 people, toiletries, fluffy white towels and even candles so you could have a romantic bath with atmosphere. We were in a garden room as we had our dogs with us, and this worked wonderfully as we had a nice fenced patio area outside the room with table and chairs where we could share a glass of wine and the dogs could be outside safely. This garden room was compact but perfectly adequate space, and nicely furnished with tea and coffee making facilities, flat screen TV and DVD player.

The staff were all very pleasant, parking was on site and there are lovely walks straight out the front of the hotel onto the beach road. We had dinner at The Coast Inn 5 minutes down the road, because we were familiar with it, but wish now that we had eaten at the Victory as the food looked very good and The Coast Inn was not up to the standard of previous visits by any means.

All in all, The Victory is a super place to spend the night or a few days if you love Mersea Island as much as we do and want to be by the waterside, with food and drink on tap and decent service. Well done to The Victory and we will be back for sure!

Room Tip: Garden room if you like an outside patio - seaview room if you want views of the waterfront.

Stayed there for a surprise night last week! We ate in the evening and the food was excellent as was the breakfast the following morning! My wife booked this as a surprise little break and i loved Mersea Island. We ate in the Company Shed at lunchtime and i thoroughly recomment that place as well!! The staff were friendly and i would definately recommend this place for a break! The beer garden is also lovely and overlooks the estuary! Alovely place to unwind.

Room Tip: Room no 4 is spacious, has a lovely big bathroom and doubles up as a family room if required (but do...

Our first time to the Victory and was totally up to our expectations from the website. Could not fault the food, the staff were so friendly and helpful. We will definitely be returning on another trip soon.

Room Tip: Try the garden rooms with patio

Went to Mersea for a wedding. Had twin room number 5, nicely decorated with little touches of flowers, shower gel etc., tea coffee and biscuits. Very comfy beds and the room smelt lovely and fresh. Breakfast was delicious and so was the evening Steak and Chips, Superb Creme Brulee! good selection of wine and rum! Lovely, friendly and attentive staff.

We had a fabulous time and would highly recommend staying here, if we ever go back we would certainly stay again. Well done

Lesley x

Stayed here while on business as i have several times before and probably will again , nice rooms, good food and friendly attentive staff .
Do not get a front facing room if you are a light sleeper , the yacht masts rattle all night long in the slightest breeze.

Spent one night at the Victory which was a Friday night. We stayed in room 1 which was a lovely large bright room with a spa bath. Unfortuantely you will get lots of noise from the down stairs bar which had very loud music playing untill midnight, saying that I would return but possibly on either a Sat/Sun and stay in a different room further away from the public bar!
Breakfast was fantastic and we also had our evening meal there which was also very good. When checking out I was not asked if I enjoyed our stay if I had of been I would have commented on the noise in our room.

Room Tip: Room 2 or 3!

We didn't stay here but we spent a lot of time here the weekend we spent on Mersea. We've already decided to stay here when we come back later in the year. At the Victory we had food, drinks and sofa surfed in the bar while the weather was less than perfect and felt so welcome. We visited all the pubs on the island and I have to say that this was the best by far, the other three were a) unhospitable b) full of staff that needed a dose of customer care training and one even smelled like a barn as soon as you entered... Not going to say which one that was but not too far from the coast road...
A definite gem in my book.
