I recently took a 1 day Pacuare River white water rafting trip with my wife. We were picking up exactly on time from our hotel in San Jose and the guide on the bus was very friendly and energetic and definitely got everyone off to a great start. The breakfast before the white water rafting was one of the best we had in Costa Rica. We ended up being paired with a family of 3 and our guide, Manuel. Throughout the trip, we had a blast! The water temperature was warm and the guide kept cheering us on and answering any questions about the surroundings we had. Would 100% recommend this to ANYONE who goes to Costa Rica. In fact, I wish we had done the 2 day tour.

This was the first time my son (16) and I have been whitewater rafting. Now I wish we would have booked the 2 day trip, because we had an amazing time! They provided round trip travel to and from Caribbean side of Costa Rica. All the guides were very helpful and fun to hang out with. The river is so pretty and untouched. I cant wait to do it again!

The Pacuare River in Costa Rica is considered one of the best whitewater rafting rivers in the world. I had never been rafting before and thoroughly enjoying a full day trip with Exploradores Outdoors company.
They pick you up from your hostel in the early morning and drive for a few hours until they reach their main outpost, located at the bottom of the river. During the journey our guide, Daniel, was very informative and humorous, giving us the necessary rating instructions and safety precautions.
My river guide, Dengue, was very experienced, however, didn't have a lot of 'chatter' throughout the rapids, which was a bit of a shame.
However, the rapids are what you are here for and they do not disappoint. As you make your way through the 42 turbulent rapids over different levels (2,3,4), you focus on following instructions and successfully get through each rapid without issues. Between each rapid you get a chance to enjoy the scenery and muck around with your fellow rafters.
A great place to go whitewater rafting and a 'must' in Costa Rica.

It doesn't get better than rafting the Pacuare with Exploradores. Our family of four (daughters are ages 18 and 23) booked the 2-day trip which includes an overnight at the river cabins. I can't say enough about William, our guide, and Alex, our kayak "assistant." They were first and foremost concerned with safety. The class 3-4 rapids made for a fun and challenging trip, and William really knew his stuff. Additionally, both men kept us laughing at their hilarious antics and humorous stories. On both days, we made several stops along the way to hike to amazing waterfalls where we could take a quick swim. The scenery along the Pacuare is spectacular. Around every corner there was something beautiful to admire.

The screened-in cabins were basic, but very clean. Just what a river cabin should look like! William and Alex prepared our lunch, dinner and breakfast while at the river camp. William is a culinary genius. He served everything from homemade tortillias and eggs to fish and fresh fruit. Each meal was amazing. We sat outside at the open kitchen/dining area and admired the beautiful view of the Pacuare below. We also saw plenty of birds, frogs, etc. They warned us about snakes, but fortunately we didn't see any! William and Alex took us on a jungle hike that included waterfalls and lovely scenery. I do recommend plenty of mosquito repellant for this phase of the trip!

This river trip was the highlight of our visit to Costa Rica. We were impressed with everything from the personnel to the equipment to the overall operation. It's going to be hard to beat rafting on the Pacuare!

We used this company for transport between La Fortuna and Puerto Viejo. What an amazing way to spend the day - white water rafting on the pacure river. Our guides were wonderful and great, "taz" manned our boat, "manuel" William and many more. They were both safe and fun. Lunch was provided along the way and was amazing considering it traveled in a bucket and was prepared on site by our guides. Overall, what a wonderful way to get from one place to the next. It would have cost us the same as a private taxi and we got to raft along the way. they are able to store luggage, etc for you while you raft and it's all very secure.
