JUFA Hotel Schloss Roethelstein
Reviewed April 9, 2014

Stay in a real castle but at a reasonable price. Our room (108) was huge (it took a whole storey of the outside round tower), nicely decorated and with seven windows offering stunning views of the surrounding countryside. The location of the hotel is unbelievable, it is set on a hill with great views of the mountains around and the valley below, including Admont and the Benedictine monastery and library.

The dining room is in the glass-covered courtyard. They have buffet breakfast and dinner (15 EUR).

Highly recommended!

Room Tip: Stay in the outside tower, rooms 108 or 208, for great views.

This is probably the most spectacular hotel I've ever been to, spectacularly impressive approaching it as it towers above Admont, clinging to the side of the mountain and with spectacular views from our room across the town below and the snow-capped mountains nearby. We were attending a special birthday party and what a setting. The room was very large with a very modern en-suite. The bed was comfortable, i slept soundly. The food was excellent though the evening meal was part of the function we were attending so cannot comment on the usual hotel fare apart from the breakfast. We did not have the opportunity to try out their sauna. Be advised though that it is approached by a steep, narrow, winding road, Ok in the good weather, as it was when we arrived but covered in snow when we left. Not for the faint- hearted and those without good winter tyres. Quite an anxious trip down to the town.

Residence in the forest up in the mountiens. Hotel itself is very simple, furniture from wood. more ascetic as comformable. But large walls will hide you, antient atmosphere is providing good relax and balancing of soul and body. cheap and cosy.

The building is a grand old castle perched on the mountainside. Surrounded by forest this is a charming location above the chocolate-box valley and city of Admont. There is a lovely courtyard for drinks and dinner, but don't let that stop you wandering around - there is a stunning terrace on the other side.

The interior is recently refurbished - a lot of timber. Everything is clean and functional, though the rooms are quite basic. Think "smart hostel" and you are in the right mind. Breakfast could have been more plentiful, but fresh and very relaxed. Staff are faultlessly friendly, and try very hard with their English.

Having said all that, forget it all. If this place was a tourist attraction, you would pay to see it. The view alone is worth the price of the room.

Room Tip: Ask for a valley view.

A group of us stayed in Schloss Rothelstein for a friend's wedding. You will struggle to find a more stunning location. The rooms are basic - most of the year it would seem that the property is used as a childrens' activity centre. The are however modern and comfortable. We had a room that overlooked the valley - it was probably the most amazing view of any hotel that I have stayed in.

Dinner on our first night was, how can we say, "unusual", but the staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. Winston deserves a special mention - his Skittle Bombs are legendary.

My wife and I have a tradition that we travel every September. My wife's birthday falls on every one of our trips and I try to find somewhere special to celebrate where ever our trips may take us. This year Austria was it.
We read about this castle hotel in our guidebook and could not believe that it would be possible to stay in a castle at such a reasonable price.
While the castle is not a deluxe hotel, it is super clean and has recently been completely renovated in a simple and elegant northern European-style.
The location up on the hillside overlooking the valley and town of Admont is spectacular and well worth the 5-10 minute drive out of town.
It seems one can eat dinner in the hotel if one prearranges this early in the day. We arrived late and had to drive into town. Which was not a big deal, but something to keep in mind.
The rooms are well situated to enjoy the surrounding valley or forest and were very quiet.
Breakfast was a wonderful buffet with many choices available.
Really a special kind of treat and at this price a really good opportunity to stay in a castle.

The castle is in a beautiful location on the hill above Admont. The GPS couldn't find it, though, so print out directions before you leave. The castle is nicely renovated, and our room was very clean. The staff were friendly, helpful, and spoke English. We would definitely recommend staying here if you're visiting Admont Abbey (the library is amazing).
