“A gem in Hope Cove”
Reviewed September 17, 2012

This restaurant is a gem! We had the most wonderful meal in a lovely intimate setting. From the time we arrived until we chose to leave, (no double bookings and rushing you out of the door!) the service was faultless. I chose lobster cooked with garlic and served with salad and other half had ribeye steak with a bottle (or 2) of quality red wine. Both meals were perfection. As was 'Pauls Mess' dessert. Having dined there I would visit Hope Cove again if only for the food! It's not cheap, but having had the 'Harbour Light' experience, the old adage is true - you pay for what you get, and at Harbour Light, you get top quality. Thumbs up!

“what a find - two evenings of wonderful food and atmosphere!”
Reviewed September 12, 2012

having arrived at Hope cove thursday we were lucky enough to be able to reserve a table for friday night at the harbour light having to eat at pub next door thurs (see review)
wow what a find from being seated we had the most brilliant evening - wonderful fresh food amazing flavours, mussels to start and a huge lobster main which we shared, followed by the most scrummy treacle tart. The wine list is great and good choice of quality wines.
we enjoyed so much we were able to book last available table for saturday night - again scallops and black pudding fantastic flavour, mussels again for starters mains were fresh meaty lemon sole beautifully cooked and scallops with sauce super mains. cheese and port to finish
all the food is freshly prepared, the dining room is cosy and the atmosphere is great - having read a few negative reviews which all seem unfair - i am first to find fault and complain and i honestly can say this is a real gem
yes you will have to pre book to guarantee table we were really lucky to have table both nights
Cash only isnt a problem cash machine next door in pub
thank you for great weekend of wonderful food it made our weekend stay at Hope Cove,

“Delightfully Delicious Devon”
Reviewed September 9, 2012

An absolute must, hurray no screaming kids, apart from our 2 well behaved teenagers, entry to exit was faultless, the front of house staff were just wonderful welcoming and efficient, we ate Lobsters, & Scallops, even the salad had the most wonderful homemade dressing, all followed by fantastic homemade deserts, we chose a bottle French rose a quality we hadn’t had since our last visit to the South of France.

“Don't even attempt to go if you have children!!”
Reviewed August 19, 2012

Now, I'm all for adult only restaurants, pubs etc, but it seems to be an odd place to have one - a family seaside resort.
We were wowed by the menu and so decided we would book a table - BIG mistake - a rather officious woman told us it would not be suitable for us as the restaurant is not "conducive to children" - it's not so much what she said but the manner in which she said it. Needless to say we went elsewhere and had a lovely meal and gave our hard earned cash to those who deserved it - not the rude lady from this restaurant. On this basis I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Manners, after all, cost nothing.

What a strange review!! I agree that we are "not conducive" to young screaming children as we are a very small restaurant and cannot fit in double buggies, kiddie seats etc. Our purpose is to serve those who wish to have a peaceful evening away from the children and who have possibly thought to organise a baby sitter. I would appreciate the reviewer to contact me as I do not recognise the traits described could have possibly come from anyone who works at Harbour Lights. Possibly it was the disgruntled person who allowed their unruly children to soil our chairs and allow them to scribble on the walls and tablecloths and made no apology. We have always welcomed well behaved young people who do not scream when denied chips and tomato sauce - there are plenty of places in Hope Cove where they can buy processed food full of additives, but sorry not here.

“Truly Amazing Restaurant!”
Reviewed August 16, 2012

We only found The Harbour Light through managing to find one night's stay in Hope Cove, I can say we were so glad that we found this dining experience.

The owners are truly awe inspiring with man & wife working together running the Restaurant it's small, friendly with a Romantic atmosphere whilst keeping ambience to perfection. The decor is lovely with soft music playing in the background to lit candles around various windows.

They hand craft all their food themselves from scratch & buy all there ingredients from local fisherman, butchers, farmers etc.

We even witnessed the Fisherman pop in with his lobsters just caught on a tray fresh literally minutes ago, they looked fabulous!

We chose 'Seafood mussels & Scallop Chowder' to start with I have never tasted Chowder as good as this anywhere in the world I have been. Paul the owner would not tell me his closely guarded Recipe for this dish!

We also got home made bread each with fresh butter included Before the starter came out, it was delicious.

I then had 'Pork Belly' on a Cornish Cider, apple potato mash. WOW the Pork Belly was cooked to perfection with The Crackling Snaptastic. This again is the best Pork Belly I have ever tasted.

My fiancé had the same starter but chose Monkfish wrapped in Parma ham - it was simply beautiful & the vegetables came out steaming fresh & properly cooked.

You must not be put off by the prices as when you cost it all out you will pay the same as going next door to the Pub! As you have no surcharge on veg, bread, etc where all the Pubs charge you extra for sides.

This is now in our Top 5 dining places in the world.

Thank you for the most Truly Amazing Food!
