Our stay at the hotel was a return visit - we have been a few times. Hope Cove is a great destination. The hotel has a quirky charm, knitted doylies at the mock thatched bar says it all ! The food is good and the service has been excellent, exept from one member of staff. On our first visit this lady showed us our room - the reaction to my commenting on the hard bed was "I can't do anything about that, they are all the same"! They are not. On this last visit this person appeared to argue in the dinning room over a requirement- not proffessional. When paying the bill my partner had to deal with her again and she gave no farewell or wishing well, safe journey, how was your stay?- just explained the bill - which is her roll as bookkeeper. If she continues to have to deal with the public -get some training in hospitality! We will give it a miss for a while.Apple and barrel come to mind! A shame - give it a go if you are thick skinned!

Room Tip: Avoid the corner room over the kitchen - it is hot & noisey. You do hear the noise from the poo...

We have returned a few times to The lantern Lodge Hotel in Hope Cove and are never disappointed. Always have a front room if you can, the views are amazing, the food wonderful, the pool very relaxing and all the staff very friendly. There are wonderful walks everywhere you look and the villages of Outer Hope and Inner Hope are very pretty without being over commercialized. Come rain or shine we will indeed visit again.

Room Tip: Always have the more expensive rooms if you can as they are heavily booked , well worth the extra.

We stayed at this hotel for a couple of days to celebrate our 30th Wedding anniversary. We spotted the hotel last year when we were visiting the area. The location of the hotel is brilliant and the view from the room that we had (room 1) was breathtaking. Hope Cove is a lovely place and we managed to explore some of the other coves nearby. The staff at the hotel were really friendly and cheerful and the hotel itself was quiet and spotless. We used the pool which was very relaxing and dried off in the sun on the private patio area adjacent to the pool. We only stayed for 2 nights and we ate at the Hope and Anchor on the first evening and at the hotel on the night of our anniversary. The food in the Hope and Anchor was good but the food at the hotel was excellent. I would certainly return to this hotel and would not hesitate in recommending it to a friend.
Many thanks to all of the staff for making us feel really welcome.

Room Tip: Sea view is a must.

We came here for our honeymooon and got a lovely, clean, comfy room with a fabulous sea view, great service and tasty food. We had a 4 poster room overlooking the sea which was a good size, the only negative was a small shower, because everthing else was lovely, it didnt seem to bother us. We wanted a quiet, remote location away from noisy kids and we got it. The hotel only had couples staying whilst we were their so very peaceful. We highly recommend the food at the hotel .. a great breakfast and evening meal .. plenty to eat and good quality. We were lucky enough to have the pool to ourselves, which was clean and warm. Only a short walk to the local pub which was friendly and we had a good meal. If you want a clean, friendly hotel by the sea in a beautiful location with great coastal walks on your doorstep, with peace and quiet .. come here. A special thank you to Laura who went out of her way to help us.

Room Tip: Try and get a sea view room as its well worth it.

Rooms are more than adequate, showers a bit on the low power side, food great and change of menu every day. Service with a smile and like to give a good service which is VERY unusual in the UK. Would definitely reccomend to anyone as this place is a treasure at fantastic rates.

Will definitely go again. Get a sea view and preferably a balcony as well.

We stayed here for a three night break after checking on TripAdvisor it was still good. The hotel is on the cliff overlooking Hope Cove. We had hoped for a sea view but had to settle for a back room. It was spacious with a large bathroom, and spotlessly clean. The staff are friendly, the food superb. All in all a wonderful break. The icing on the cake was walking out of the hotel gardens onto the cliff top to watch the most beautiful sunset on Saturday night. If work and grandchild minding did not mean a Sunday return we would have stopped an extra night!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Welcome to Lantern Lodge, Hope Cove, Kingsbridge. The Lantern Lodge is a small privately run B&B situated on the cliff top right next to the South Devon Coastal path and overlooking the secluded fishing village of Hope Cove with its Devon thatch cottages, clean, sandy and safe beaches. Nearby are the old traditional towns of Kingsbridge, Salcombe and Dartmouth all offering their own individual character and all offering that little extra to make your stay in the South Hams that extra special and unique. Also close by are Thurlestone, Bigbury and Dartmouth golf courses all with stunning views of the area and fantastic and challenging courses. The Lantern Lodge has its own special extras to offer including an indoor heated swimming pool, sauna, double, twin and four poster rooms all with en-suite facilities and some with sea views. 9 hole putting green and plenty of car parking. There is a dining room where breakfast is served. The Lantern Lodge is so named after its attractive leafily-clad 'Lantern window.' Local folklore would have us believe that this type of window was specially designed to hold and display an illuminated lantern which could be seen from all three aspects far out to sea, acting as a beacon to safely guide home all their boats. Nowadays, our Lantern window serves very much the same purpose in welcoming back our contented guests year after year. ... more   less
