walking from the hyatt along the malecon i could only see american fastfoods or ripoffs. all were empty or had one lonely customer eating there. after the road turns left you come to a kind of strip mall where the habaneros is located. i saw the menu of the day-quesadillas with some toppings- which sounded delicious to me. unfortunately the restaurant was full- i could not even find a seat at the bar ! therefore i decided to sit ouside in the heat (ceiling fan) and waited for the quesadillas. after almost half an hour of waiting the friendly waiter came to tell me that they did not have any quesadillas left. i was very hungry and got a little bit angry walking inside where i met the boss- a lady from canada. she apologised for the mistake and took over responsibility offering a different dish within a few minutes. i ordered fajitas the pollo which was offered at a higher price than the lunch menu. the owner said that she would only charge the price for the lunch menu. i was pleased.
the fajitas were the best i ate in mexico, including exellent restaurants in DF. they use only fresh ingredients and the cooking time was just perfect. everyone working in the restaurant was very friendly and communicative.
now i understand why this was the only populated restaurant i saw in this area at lunchtime.
