We just came home from a 7 night stay at the Grand Mayan in Cabo. It was gorgeous! But let's start at the beginning: Airport: Be careful of the sales con artists in their airport - they are very agrressive. Don't give them any money - just say no to whatever they are offering! The drive to the Grand Mayan is very short from the airport - maybe 20 minutes. We rented a vehicle but I would suggest taking taxis - much cheaper in the end. The resot was spectacular! Beautiful entrance, very helpful concierge and doormen. They asked us only twice if we wanted to attend the timeshare sessions. We said no both, and they never pressed us after that. They were not at all agressive at our resort about this. Our room was perfect - beatiful view of the pool and water. Kitchen has all of the cooking and utensils you will need. Small fridge, but it was big enough for all of our groceries. Pools (3) were fantastic. Water is a bit cool, but refreshing. Lots of chairs to lounge in on the pool deck - and lots of space so that you never felt crowded. The service staff were very attentive - they offered beverages, but never were rude or aggressive. Lots of activities (volleyball, salsa dancing, yoga). The beach was amazing - beautiful soft sand for easy walking. We saw whales on a regular basis. The water was cool - you can swim in it but at your own risk (no lifeguards). We bought all of our groceries at the MEGA store - only 5 minute drive from this resort. Very affordable. There is also a Starbuck, Subway, Burger King and other fast-food places within a short drive walking distance. It's only a 20 minute walk to downtown where there are lots of vendors selling shirts, bags, souveniers - fun to look around. I would definitely recommend this hotel. Great experience overall!

Ok, to start this off, this is the most upscale hotel we have ever stayed at. It starts at the monumental amazing lobby, to the huge pool area with shade beds and fire pits everywhere, to the amazing rooms with jacuzzi tub, outside soak tub, and so many high end touches my wife and I were blown away. It is an amazing property.

The service was great, and we will always remember a special touch - upon complementing a chef on an amazing egg dish in the morning buffet, she asked us to come back a few days later so she could teach us how to make it! one of our best memories ever. Other staff seemed nice as well, and the activities director was also such a nice person that really connected with the guests.

We are going back this summer and are really excited. It was our best trip ever.

One thing that I was personally very disappointed in was that if you exchange into the resort with another timeshare week, they want to charge you for the fitness center. I like to do a few sets of weights and some cardio a few times a trip, and they wanted to charge us. I wasn't willing to pay for that. Especially since the lady at the front desk (timeshare lady) had said that they do NOT charge for that. That was only one of the lies that we caught her in. That leads us to the WARNING section of this review.

First, if renting a car, on street parking will save you money, as their parking area is valet.

And if you are prepared, you can avoid the one negative that others have had that make this property less than it could be. Do NOT take their 'friendly' tour of the property to save a percentage off of your bill. The Mayan is known around town for being the worst timeshare presentation in town. Even wily veterans of the process have gone away with post traumatic disorder. We knew enough to avoid it, and since we were staying there with our required plastic ID bracelets, the timeshare hawks around town that get paid to send unsuspecting prey to the Mayan meat-grinder presentation didn't bother us as much either.

Timeshare problems aside, (and wishing for the occasional workout) this was the most upscale place we have stayed in years of travel, and we would recommend it to others.

We have been to Cabo more than a half dozen times. We have stayed at the Mayan all but three times. We find the hotel to be great. The rooms and views fantastic. The food amazing. The location to downtown or the Mega (large grocery and variety store) is just a 10 minute walk or a cheap and short cab ride. I have traveled all over the world and find this place to be among, if not, our favorite.

We went on this holiday for our Honeymoon. This resiort was recommended to us by The Registry Collection for this special occasion. The resort was of the highest standards from th time we arrived to the time we left. All the staff were most helpfull from the luggage lads, concierge, reception, cleaners and gardeners. The rooms were always very clean as was the rest of the resort. Our rooms over looked the grounds and the sea, from our bed we could see the sun rise in the morning at 7.01am what a view. The balcony overlooked the grounds, pools and then the sea, there was 2 sun beds on the balcony with also a dunk pool. The restaurants served excellant food at a resonable price. The standards through out the resort were of the highest standards. The grounds were always perfect clean and trim, so also were the pools. The staff around the grounds that served drinks to the people that change pool towels to seat covers plus the entertainment staff was excellant. The locals and shop keepers do say that crime does not seem to happen in this area so walking into the local town was safe around a 15 to 20min walk.
The only downside to this journey was how long it took. We travelled from Heathrow to Dallis and from Dallis to San Jose Cabo around 24Hrs in time so the first 2 days you are a little tired.

My husband and I went to the Grand Mayan for a week stay. We do not own a timeshare and actually were given this trip by a friend. After staying here for the week I can understand why people would go the timeshare route, but I would have been upset if I were an owner. First, the place was only half full....that was nice in terms of it being quiet, but there were limited activities/staff/and dining choices. The spa was almost non-existent. The condo style rooms were very nice but the title floors were very hard and the furniture in the living room was designed be extra sleeping space, and therefore uncomfortable for seating. The grounds were absolutely wonderful and well maintained as were the cabana's and chairs by the large pools. This would have been wonderful, but the pools were FREEZING....not heated....and NO ONE would use them! What a waste. The beach was pretty, but the sand was deep and hard to walk through. The staff was accomodating with any request that was made, but you had to know what to ask for. We had requested a handicapped bathroom and they simply did not have this available in the hotel. That first showed us to a handicapped room, with a single bathroom and a tub with very tall sides. When we explained we needed a walk in shower they assigned us to a different room with a walk in shower but no raised toilet or other features. They simply do not understand disabled accomodations. We got by for the week. Overall it was a nice expereince but I would not buy into the property. OH.....we walked into the town for dinner a couple of nights....great food....and shopped at the mega and cooked our own!

We've done several timeshare tours, and we are owners, but never had a timeshare nightmare like this with so many people acting like total crooks.

We signed up for 90 minutes of presentation for the Grand Luxxe, which is a new property planned for the empty lot next to the Grand Mayan. When we got there they told us they couldn't complete the presentation in less than 2-4 hours. We told them no, we had 90 minutes like we agreed to. They tried to intimidate us for the 90 minutes (several totally dishonest scammers), then told us we were done, let us go, then told us we didn't get the agreed gifts because we hadn't finished the presentation. They threatened to call security and police, so we left.
Then we talked to several people at Mango's that night (Mango's is awesome), the Mayan is a known nightmare, but since the new resort is called the Grand Luxxe, many people are being tricked.
Even if you think you are a timeshare expert avoid this presentation, even if they promise a pile of cash, great gifts and no more than 90 minutes, YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!

Just returned from Cabo and this hotel after being there with my family of four, my parents and my sister and her 19 year old and three year old and her husband. The location is great and very close to town. We took a taxi for 5$ into town or the local bus for 8 pesos per person which makes it much cheaper. Takes five minutes.

Lobby is decorated very oddly I thought, but the pool and outside area is beautiful. The bellmen and waiters around the pool were outstanding and very helpful. So was our cleaning lady Ramona who did a great job!!!

DO NOT BOOK any trips through the concierege. They haven't been on many of the tours and therefore don't have the expertise to properly suggest the tours. FURTHERMORE, DO NOT BOOK AN ATV TRIP!!!!!! We were having a great trip until my husband and nephew went on an ATV tour thru MOTOSOL!!!!! They were pressured to go faster than they wanted. My husband got left two times and couldn't see anyone in front of him, as he was out in the middle of no where. My nephew crashed his ATV and was thrown 15 feet. Broke arm and leg and had to be flown by air ambulance to San Diego where he underwent six hours of surgery. Could have been even worse my husband says.

They are only heating two of the smaller and more shallow pools, which worked perfectly for those of us with small children. But the majority of the pools are freezing cold at this time of year. Also, it really does cost about $12 to do a load of laundry, as I had read on other reviews.

Beds are fairly hard, but if you complain they can bring a styrofoam waffle and put below your mattress.

I suggest going with some pesos because changing american dollars is difficult. We ordered some thru our bank before we left and were glad we did.
