Arrived at Grand Mayan and checked in, problem free. Was escorted to the information desk to be informed of restaurants and facilities available on property. She started to sell us on the timeshares and we stopped her and said we were not interested, period! Fast forward, the next night, the women out front asked us our room number and a note had been made to not bother us regarding timeshare. Very impressive. The food in the mornings at the Grand Cafe is wonderful. Breakfast every morning, all you can eat for around 199 pesos. (around 20-23.00 bucks each) When we checked in they credit your room 500.00 off your credit card. No cash is used on resort, just gave our room number for everything and it was deducted from our 500.00 prepaid transaction. Fresh danishes, eggs made to order, bacon, toast, wonderfully fresh squeezed OJ and a host of Mexican food. Fresh towels everyday at pool area, very clean. Staff is constantly working, picking up, service is amazing, and gratuity is added to every ticket. Remember that! Games and books/magazines at pool area to read or play. Security was always there, walking around. This is a private resort. No other people are allowed there from off the beach. They give you red rubber bracelets to identify you are a guest and that you belong there. There are people on the beach selling jewelry and whatnot's, but they don't bother you. They go away when you say you are not interested. Our meal at Peri Q, another restaurant, not so good. Might have just been what we ordered. The tortilla soup was not editable. We returned and ticket was adjusted, no problem. The drinks are pretty expensive. We bought our own booze and made drinks in room. (We had a kitchen with coffee maker, fridge, stove and blender). I highly recommend getting a kitchen. It was fully equipped. The linens are fab!! Very soft. Good pillows. Decor is very chic, hip, tasteful. Room service was excellent. Housekeeping was very good, quick, friendly. Valet parking (if you rent a car) ran us around 35-40 bucks for the week. We went into Los Cabos about 5 minutes away for most of our meals. The Tropicana was good. Morgans was excellent, and on our last night, The Seven Seas. All highly recommended. Horseback riding was great! Only 25 USD per hour. They will be parked on the beach waiting for you to come up and set a time. We did and they were there when promised. All in all, we had a wonderful honeymoon at this resort. I recommend it. It was very clean, very nice, comfortable and a pleasant stay. Also went to the spa, Brio. Very pleasant. Great massage, robes and flip flops provided. Very relaxing, very professional. Ran me around 120.00 for an hour. :/ Beware of the water. Even though it's a 4-5 star resort, the water is not safe. My Brother got sick just sipping while taking medicine. Make your coffee with bottled water and brush your teeth with bottled water. Avoid the fruit that is not in it's skin. Other than that, have a great trip!!

Don't bother asking the Grand Mayan staff for any recommendations. They will send you to whatever establishment will give them the highest referral fee instead of providing honest useful information. The management should really clamp down on what their staff is doing.

We had a very simple request -- looking for seafood restaurant that locals frequent -- after being sent to numerous rip-off restaurants with high priced bad food, we realized that there is nobody at Grand Mayan we can trust. A local bar tender finally gave us some great food recommendations and also explained how the various tourist traps "advertise" by paying referral fees to hotel staff and taxi drivers to generate business.

Very nice facility. Modern architecture recently built (5 years or less I believe). Friendly staff, beautiful well kept grounds. Pools are cool temperature which would be nice in warmer months but a little less friendly in November-March. San Jose del Cabo is a more traditional Mexico experience as compared with Cabo San Lucas. Not the party atmoshpere at this or any of the SJD resorts we've stayed. We did not do the presentation so cannot comment regarding favorable or not. Overall a very pleasant stay, relaxing accessable grounds, and friendly staff. We would stay here again.

We are arrived on hot bright afternoon from the timeshare circus at the airport via the shuttle that I somehow received an electric shock strong enough to make me cry. Checking in I was in such a pain that one of the staff came to my immediate assistance with a bag of ice and bottled water. Very nice welcome after the journey. The lobby is entered through a pitch black "Mayan Temple" that is a bit disorienting at first that I found a nice transition from heat and bright sunlight.. The decor is lavish and eclectic with spaces of a grand scale. Our room was spacious, clean but not quiet in the early morning due to a very large family staying the adjoining room that rose at 6am to cook breakfast, make Skype calls etc.
The pools grounds are beautiful with very attentive staff to remind that there are 2 happy hours a day. Margaritas are good, Bloody Mary's not.The food is very good at PeriQ and beautifully presented. Beware of the lady at the entrance who insists on knowing your comings and goings, name, room number and what you paid for the room. She is really trying to get you to a timeshare presentation.
All in all it was a lovely place to stay.

I visited this resort with my 2 year old daughter and it was wonderful. I would highly recommend this location if you are looking for a quiet place to relax. It is far enough from the crazy Cabo San Lucas but close enough too. It was such a romantic place to be. You cannot swim in the ocean outside of resort because of the rip tides. Service was great however my only complaint is the tour booking workers are not very friendly. Time share people were a nightmare but that was expected. The resort is very clean. Again I just cannot believe how peaceful and quiet the place was. I liked how you could walk to the city of San Jose and that gives you more options for food and shopping.

Very impressive on arrival However they charged for 9.00 dollars a day to park, Our room was never cleaned before 5:00 p.m. daily. We also had to ask for ammenities. One day our room was not cleaned at all. Staff were not very friendly. The coneige referred us to a romantic hilltop view for dinner and drinks, and the place was closed for renovatoins. they also recommend restaurant that was not open after 7:00 p.m. Over the place was beautiful and clean, but now very friendly. The drinks at the bar were expensive $12.00 each. Happy hour were 2 for 1 but they gave you 2 drinks in one glass slightly bigger but not double in size. They cleaned the pool daily around 10:30 a.m. and that is when they put chlorine in the pool and I might very heavy, You and your suit smelled like chlorine until way into the afternoon. Overall even thought eh place is very impressive and I would list it as a a 5Plus resort, it is all the little things that add up to not staying there again.

Stayed with a friend in her timeshare. The resort is spectacular. Spacious attractive rooms, with a small pool on the balcony. Food in the PeriQ restaurant was wonderful and not overly expensive. And the local folk who worked there were truly friendly and helpful. Yes, there were a few tiles missing here and there in the pools but you really had to look to find them. The outdoor spaces and furniture were well-kept and the waiters in the pool area were particularly fun.

The only quibble I have with the resort itself is one noted by others. You have to pay for internet access and the signal itself is not consistent. However, they did give me two accounts for the price of one so I could use both my computer and iphone.

Be sure to take a walk to old San Jose. Only a little touristy, much more welcoming than Cabo. There's a great little push-cart in front of the bank. Get a slice of pineapple with lime juice and Tajin spice, less than a dollar. The taste just exploded in my mouth.

The walk to the MegaMart is about 20 minutes or you can take a bus for 8 pesos. The bus also goes to old San Jose if you're feeling lazy. Just outside the MegaMart is a great little taqueria. I have no idea what was in the burritos but there are pictures and I just pointed to what looked good.

The timeshare presentation was a nightmare for my friend. She discovered that she was lied to when she bought it about 3 years ago. At the time she signed an outdated contract and was told they would send the updated one along. She forgot about it and only found out last week that all the yearly maintenance and five year renovation payments that she was promised she would not have to pay were still in the contract. The supervisor, a Canadian named Cody, was just plain rude, showed no interest in looking into the problem and continued a pretty hard sell. Please, please, please, do not buy a timeshare. They do not let you take an unsigned contract to show a lawyer. They are professional salespeople, trained to make you feel comfortable and confident. But it is a ruse. They are way smarter about the system than we are. It is an unfair situation.

Room Tip: Ask for a 3rd floor or higher room.
