I have an unnatural fondness for villas in tropical locales. The ones found in Cabo Azul are top notch.

The resort itself is perfectly planned and features three infinity pools fronting the ocean. The beach is beautifully laid out as well, with gorgeous cabanas and lounge chairs. Unfortunately, it's best not to swim in the ocean as the riptides are very strong, but this is typical for much of this part of Cabo. There are several places to grab a bite to eat here; be sure not to miss the $2.00 tacos at Flor de Noche, the open building by the pool (done several times a week).

In terms of location, Cabo Azul is situated just a mile from downtown San Jose del Cabo, the quieter, more laid-back brother of Cabo San Lucas (which is a 30-45 minute drive away). The resort is also 5 minutes away from Mega, where groceries and sundries can be purchased (although these can also be purchase on-site as well). Best of all location-wise, Cabo Azul is an easy drive away from the international airport. Getting in and out of the country is very, very easy, which makes the though of returning to this location all the more attractive to me. While this doesn't reflect on the resort in any way, this part is good to know: as far as the airport goes, beware of the incredibly aggressive time share hawkers who will undoubtedly try to engage you as you make your way out of the terminal. A friendly but firm "no thanks" coupled with a sure stride towards the door should shake them off.

The villas themselves are quite luxe, with each bedroom having its own unique character. The kitchen is completely functional, the living room large enough to comfortably accommodate a good-sized group. If you can, get one with an ocean view.

Service here was consistently top-notch. Staff members are helpful without being intrusive, and area able to anticipate your needs.

I happened to be traveling with adults, but noticed that this resort is very child-and-family friendly. At the same time, it is somehow able to manage things in a way that keeps it from being dominated by kids and taking on a theme-park quality.

My experience here was top-notch and I have every intention of returning. Just keep in mind that this part of Mexico is geared towards the tourist, so while it is the perfect location for a lazy beach vacation, this region may not be the best choice if you are looking for a more authentic and typical Mexican experience.

We stayed here for 7 nights in September 2011. The resort was easy to find from the airport. Check in at the guard shack was quick. Valet parking is at no charge. We chose to park our car. Free parking. There is construction at the road. The resort has done an excellent job of hidding it. Some of the buildings have tall walls in the walkways that conceal the construction.

Check in was easy. Went to the concierge desk for the key, map and sales pitch. Told them no and were left alone. The cash exchange is at the front desk. Decent rate but we went to a local bank and got a great rate. Note, the front desk will not change peso's back to U.S. dollars.

The resort is beautiful. The pools are the nicest that we have seen. There are various colored pebbles that make up the floors and walls of the pools. So relaxing and warm. Very nice lounge chairs with thick cushions. We stayed at the beach. It was very relaxing. The sounds of the big waves crashing and the views of the mountains were perfect. There are fire pits that are lit at night. Also, there are big candles around the property. Pool towels were easy to get. Just give the room number. The bathrooms by the pools at the entrance to every building were clean.

There are beach vendors that have to stay behind the roped off area. We were at the beach every day and were not bothered by them. They try to get your attention but will not annoy you. We realize that they are trying to make a living.

We had a 2 bedroom unit with a full kitchen. Our building was the Alba. Marble floors are throughout and also in the shower. Big showers. Plenty of hot water and there are fans in the seperate toilet areas. There was a jacuzzi tub in the master bedroom. Big room with a comfortable bed. There is only 1 closet in the condo - in the master bedroom. There is an armoire in the second bedroom. The second bedroom is a quiet room - no tv to distract you. Nice fabric on the walls and ceiling. Very romatic dim lighting. The second bathroom has a little better lighting.

Verg big kitchen with fridge, microwave, stove, dishwasher - GE stainless. Plenty of dishes and silverware. Coffee maker and blender. Buy some bottled water to make ice with the trays.

The tv in the living room is a flat screen. Several english channels - news, HBO, etc. Also has a dvd player and surround sound. Big sofa and ottomon. Also has a 4 chair table to eat at. Unique furniture and lamp shades.

There are 3 ceiling fans in the room. Also, there are 3 thermostats.

We had a large deck that we could get to from the living room or master bedroom. There are 4 chairs and 2 tables that we used every morning to eat breakfast at and enjoy to view of the pools and resort.

Maid service was excellent. They clean everything daily. We could see them as we sat on the balcony cleaning other rooms inside and out. We placed a call to have our fan fixed and it was fixed in half an hour.

The market has a lot of food and drinks for the room. Prices are adjusted for the convience. The deli was nice. There are 8 computers to use for free. Never had a problem getting one. There are daily specials at the deli. 2 for one ice cream, desserts, pizza specials, etc. Good food. The gift shop is nice. Very nice people that work for the resort. So friendly. The grounds are very well takend care of.

Javier's looked very nice. We did not eat there as we tried out a different local place every night.

The poolside bar had happy hour from 3 to 5. 2 for one on certain drinks.

We used the gym 5 times. There are free weights, ellipticals, stair climbers, treadmills, bikes and different weight machines to target each area. Also have free weights, a yoga room, exercise balls and a water cooler. A complete workout! There are 2 bathrooms and music playing.

Our vacation was perfect and we are looking forward to returning. This is a beautiful resort and the people there will do their best to take care of you. The location was perfect for us. We wanted a quiet stay and we had a car to get around with.

We loved Cabo Azul. At first we weren't sure about staying in San Jose. We ended up loving the smaller more authentic places in the city and were crazy about our resort. The pool is outstanding, beautiful and the only amenity that wasn't finished was the main lobby area...Check in is in an actual resort room they converted to the desk. Concierge was very helpful. Spa was just okay, not spectacular in my opinion. Our room was lovely, 2 bedroom villa...we took our friends with us and we had plenty of room, the balcony was large and the sliding glass doors were great for letting the fresh air breeze through! The only thing this place lacked was an upbeat bar/lounge with some music or place to go at night to get a drink....seemed like the onsite restaurant closed early each evening....Our room was close to the mini mart which was very convienent and also had email/computer stations so you could keep in touch with people in the US. Also the gelato and the breakfast in the restaurant near the mini market was good!

Room Tip: We didn't have a great view of the ocean, but had a pool view and it was close to the mini marke...

I just got back from staying 3 nights at Cabo Azul, and was incredibly impressed with my stay. The 1 bedroom villa was HUGE and they pulled out all the stops. From a full kitchen with a blender, toaster, dish washer, pots, pans, etc to a huge jacuzzi tub, this place is amazing.

The pool service is great, and they have a very sexy water aerobics instructor, Renee, who does free classes every day at noon. It is a great way to spend 30 minutes!

You cannot swim in the ocean here, but you can head to downtown Cabo for $25 taxi ride and swim at Nikki Beach, shop, and visit the downtown bars.

I did not eat at any of the restaurants, but I did purchase groceries in their market. It is a good sized market with alcohol, beer, light produce, deli meats, cheeses, pasta, rice, beans, bread... all the basics. A 15 minute walk or 5 minute cab ride gets you to "Mega" grocery store, which is like a Wal Mart Supercenter.

The drinks at the pool were good, and they do a 2-for-1 happy hour.

Overall this property was beautiful, the rooms are stunning, the views are fantastic, and it is the perfect place to relax. Really great for couples.

Cabo Azul is absolutely a dream!!! We are currently here enjoying the beautiful resort, the wonderful staff, the traditional town during Mexico's independence day. What a great time to visit there town, we have experienced fire works, shows and so much authentic Mexican food. The town of San Jose del Cabo is only 1 mile away and very easy to walk to. The resort itself should be a 5 star resort. And although under construction... you would never know. It looks absolutely beautiful. I will mention a few wonderful points that I typically look for in a resort as we travel quite a bit to several resorts.
Pool: The pool here is wonderfully warm... and very enjoyable. I couldn't ask for a more beautiful pool. It is a vanishing edge pool on every level and from any point all you see is the ocean from the edge of the pool... an absolutely amazing view at any time of day. We are traveling here without kids on this trip, however we will return with the family. A pool that the kids can enjoy, as well as myself, is a must on my list for vacations.
Food: The food in the resort itself is fantastic, I could go on about each meal, but I will just say, they do not lack in the food taste department, they have mastered it!
Gym: The gym, although not for everyone on a vacation, is great!!! Alex is a fantastic personal trainer... Thanks for a great workout Alex!!
Rooms: The rooms are huge, We are in a 1 bedroom Villa, which is approx. 1200 sq ft. Where do you find a room like that ever?? They all have a stylish kitchenette in them and all around the room is very elegant. The resort is 5 mins from Mega which is a huge shopping centre for groceries and all your needs, when you bring back your groceries, the staff will help you take them all to your room... what a treat!! We were invited to take a tour of the other rooms, and they are all equally beautiful, the only difference is space... I thought 1200 sq feet was large.... try a 2 or 3 bedroom, some people wouldn't want to return home after these rooms. We are staying in a ocean view 1 bedroom and although only the 2nd floor, a spectacular view.
Drinks: Premium alcohol... what more can you ask for!!!
Service: The serving staff is amazing, at the bar and around the pools. They are around several times a day to offer you drinks or food.
Well for us... a warm pool, great service, a beautiful room, great food, close to town to be able to experience the local town... what more can you ask for??? This place truly is a
dream!!!

Comments about what seems to be the negative reviews... lighting in the rooms....from what I understand about the low lighting is that it was done to give this place a very romantic feel.. and they have succeeded in this... this place is truly a romantic dream. As one person put it, a woman feels so beautiful when she looks in the mirror in dim light, you don't need all that make-up on, let your true beauty shine through, just like this resort it is truly beautiful!!

Enjoy your next vacation.. I hope you take my recommendation and try Cabo Azul.

Room Tip: Any ocean view, you can't go wrong!!! If you like the space try a 2 or 3 bedroom, but you won...

This place is simply amazing. Best we have stayed at the last four years in Cabo. We highly recommend this very "chic" resort. The resort has a South Beach feel with great music all over the resort. Reminded us of the "W" hotels we stay at. The place is lit up with torches all over including the middle of the water at the pools at night. Pictures won't do it justice. Awesome service and food. Spa was great. Everyone had a smile all the time. It is a time-share resort based on points from Monarch Grand Vacation so be prepared if you take the tour. Do your homework if you are thinking about buying. We will be back every year!

Room Tip: Ocean view, Penthouse if you can get it.

Wow! I loved everything about this resort. The property and decor are absolutely gorgeous. Yes, the lighting in the bathroom isn't the greatest but there is a better lit vanity area in the bedroom, if needed. The staff was always friendly and courteous. The beach isn't swimmable due to the rip tides but this is expected in much of Cabo.

We didn't eat at Javier's but we did eat at Flor de Noche and the Market Deli. Both were fantastic! The taco specials at Flor de Noche are M-W-F and we ended up having that for a late lunch 2 times. We enjoyed our tacos during happy hour, 3pm-5pm, and took advantage of the 2-for-1 drink specials. At the deli, we had their pizza, sandwiches and breakfast burritos, all delicious. We brought a bottle of tequila with us from home and bought some juice in the market as a mixer.... this made for very cheap drinks that we enjoyed in our room and poolside. The beer in the market is only $1 as opposed to $4 at Flor de Noche.

We had planned to go to the Mega store and buy groceries but we never made it and ended up eating all meals on property except for the day we went into Cabo San Lucas. I thought the food was wonderful. The only thing that could have been better was the gelato in the deli.

We rented a car and drove into Cabo San Lucas one day. We had a 20% coupon so we got the car for $45 USD (usually $55). On the way to Cabo, we stopped and enjoyed Chileno Beach, about a 10 minute drive from the resort. Tipping the parking attendant is a good idea so he'll keep an eye on your car. We got to the beach at about 9:30am and it was practically empty. We left around noon and the parking lot was full. I would recommend going early. Once in Cabo, we parked in the parking garage at the mall for $15 pesos. We did the Sunrider Sunset Dinner Cruise and had a blast.

The next day we did the ATV tour with Cactus. We didn't have a good experience with the drive there and when we returned to the resort, the concierge was surprised because they hadn't had trouble with this company in the past. So, use caution. They picked us up at 10:40am and we didn't get to their site and get on the ATV's until 1:00pm. For 2+ hours, we sat in a hot van while they stopped at another resort and visited with their friends for about 15 minutes, dropped friends off at work in town, and just generally drove around. It was an hour before we even picked up the next couple. Once we arrived, the ATV adventure was a blast but I would not book through this company again.

Room Tip: All the rooms are great, full kitchen included, and the construction of the property is so that we h...
