Reviewed February 25, 2014

We travelled with our 2 young children (7, 5) Feb 15-22.

We had a great time and the resort is wonderful. Meals in both the a la carte and buffet were excellent, as was the service. There were a series of conference-type events towards the end of the week, when we noticed the resort getting busier, and service started getting a little strained then as in not enough staff at buffet.

We enjoyed both buffet and the a la cartes - of course buffets are easier with kids however we still managed to visit several of the a la cartes, expect the seafood one, Coral, as it was not open during our stay, perhaps our sole disappointment. At the Spanish restaurant, the hostess offered to bring over some items that our son liked from the buffet, great service!

Our kids loved the kids club, much better than other reports we have stayed at where I would not have trusted my kids alone with the staff. At one point my son called on the 2 way radio to let us know that he 'never wanted to leave, do not come get me!' he is 5! Carla and Marcela are terrific. My older daughter (7) loved it too. There were not a lot of kids but she made some friends for the week. It was nice for them to do some crafts and activities to change up the week a bit.

Pillows need some help, though, very huge and hard - tossed and turned a bit though both kids slept soundly the entire week. Not a deal breaker for us but if important, bring your own.

This is not a place for nightlife, which was fine with us; the martini bar, however, is excellent as are the numerous nighttime lounging areas on the property.

We took a city run bus to Cabo for the day where we rented a water taxi to go visit Lovers Beach, the Arch, etc, it was a fun day. As well, walked to San Jose del Cabo on the Thurs night to take in the art walk, lovely little town; take the bus back, super cheap.

Thank you for sharing you comments about your recent stay with us! we are glad you have a great time with us and that you really enjoy the Hotel and Cabo.
Carla and Marcela will be mentioned at our monthly staff meeting and I am happy that your girls from 5 and 7 have a wonderful time in our kids camp. I hope that during your visit in Martini's Bar you tried our Chocolate Martini or the Banana Martini those are the best ones! Thank you again for your comments.

Great meals, great beach, great activities. Bryan orchestrated all the volleyball games and pool activities extremely well. And Hugo will take care of you if you spend the day in one of the cabanas. Get concierge level service so you can take advantage of the lounge.

I spent 2 weeks (Feb.2-16) here with my 5 year old son and 34 guests for my wedding. This resort has a perfect layout. The adults only pool tucked in beside building 3,and kids splash pad tucked in beside building 2, and the main pool in the middle. We were in club premium building 3 with a honeymoon suit room 3537. This room was amazing and huge! Ocean front view was priceless. We could whale watch every morning right from our patio!
The resort is perfectly manicured and very clean. The pools are all about 4 feet deep so my son was able to swim with no troubles, the infinity pool with a swim up bar was heated, that's where we spent most of our time. The coco loco snack bar was so good. Food was always hot and fresh. My husband LOVED the shrimp tacos! And I LOVED the fresh salsa and guacamole, best I've had ever! We tried most of the specialty restaurants, the best was Hacienda steak house and lotus (Japanese) and the Italian. But be prepared to sit for at least 2 hours as they are 4 course meals. Not easy taking an impatient 5 year old to, so bring something to keep the busy! We really enjoyed our stay here, always felt very safe.
I also had my wedding here on Feb.6th that was absolutely Perfect. Our wedding planner Ari was over the top amazing! I never felt overwhelmed or stressed. She is a superstar in our minds!!! We had a 3 hour private dinner and the service was impeccable. We had 6 waiters and they worked there tails off for us! We were having such a good time dancing after dinner that Ari arranged an extra hour for us as long as we paid for the waiters for an extra hour. So worth every penny to get married at this resort, couldn't have imagined a more perfect day! I can't wait to return for our honeymoon next year!

The resort is right across the street from the Mega which is a huge Walmart type store. There is a Starbucks, Dairy Queen, McDonalds and a Subway which we tried and it was cleaner and fresher than Subway in Canada. We also took a cab to Walmart up the road and bought a cooler, drinks and lunch for the day and went to Chileno Bay snorkelling. About a 10 minute cab ride. This was my favourite thing we did on our vaca! We saw tones of cool fish because we brought a bottle with crushed tortillas to attract hundreds of fish! This place is amazing and clean. Gotta check it out if you like snorkelling! Go early around 10:00am to get a palapa to sit under.
We also did a tour called Extreme Adventures. They have a fleet of Polaris Razor 800, 2 seaters and 4 seaters. They take you on the Baja 1000 international course through the dessert and a pit stop at the ocean for pictures. All of us loved this tour even my son had a blast and my friend had her 3 year old that loved it too! About $90 dollars a person for 3 hour tour. So much fun!!!!
As we were here for 2 weeks we needed to do laundry. We found a couple places nearby called Lavendaria and Lavanet they did laundry for 3 of us for $20 bucks.

The hotel was beautiful and clean and looks just like the photographs. The change to a Hyatt is obviously a good thing. The quality of the staff was wonderful and what I am familiar with staying at this brand. The food exceeded expectations and the drinks were easy to get, never lines. Eat lunch at the indoor buffet, there's a huge assortment. Breakfast is stellar. The main pool is cold but it was refreshing and the infiniti pool is heated and obviously the place to be. There is wi-fi throughout the hotel. There are lots of restaurants and you don't need reservations. We found every option to be superb. The Japanese place has sushi and hibachi but they are 2 seperate options. There are bath tubs in the rooms and large bathrooms. Room service menu is weak so don't rely on it. The lobby bar is open 24 hours and has snacks available but the martini bar is the spot to drink at. They were real martinis and not watered down like you'd expect at an all-inclusive location. This resort is on the quiet side and does have families and kids. It's not the place to stay if you're looking for a party scene but great if you're with a family and want relaxation. It's about a 30 minute cab ride into downtown Cabo but there is a shopping center across the street and easy to walk to. The shows were very large productions and entertaining. I highly recommend this resort!

Room Tip: Floor 5 and above have no obstructed views. All the rooms are the same but the lower floors might ha...

Thank you so much for a wonderful vacation. There is nothing negative that I can say about the hotel accomadations, the food, the service. I felt like a VIP while staying at this hotel. I would also like to say, that "Tony boy" was an EXCELLENT spanish teacher, and dance instructor. He was genuinely kind and patient.

Room Tip: beautiful sunrise from room 3718, and moonrise as well

The good: Food-Surprisingly delicious. Every meal. Drinks-Plentiful, wide array of brands. Service-Top notch. Grounds and Pool-Stunning and beautiful. Entertainment- Very Good! The view-Stunning.

The bad: Room condition- dirty, dusty, sand fleas, Mold, mildew smell, broken fixtures, non working climate control, broken bulbs, "smart" room functions not working. We asked to be moved from our first room due to the condition and were moved to a room just next door that was marginally better.

We stayed during the very last week of the resort operation being under the Barcelo umbrella. There were enough positives even with the poor condition of the room that we will give other Barcelo properties a shot. Instead of being peeved about the negatives we filled our days and nights with activities outside of the sub par room and thoroughly enjoyed the quieter nature of San Jose del Cabo.

Room Tip: Close to the beach facing the water.

Our family of 5 stayed at the Hyatt Ziva this past week. I am a Hyatt Platinum member and had called ahead to let them know my status (we had booked an all-inclusive trip with Air Canada Vacations). When we arrived we were received at the VIP desk and during our visit the guest services people called numerous times to check in on us. The rooms were large, clean and well maintained. Food quality was excellent, including the buffets and restaurants. We were impressed by the variety of offerings. The property was immaculate. Most of all, we were impressed by the staff - everyone from groundskeepers to housekeeping staff to waiters and managers greeted us constantly and offered assistance.

The only note of concern was that towards the end of our week the place filled up due to a number of corporate events; in fact the hotel was at 100% capacity. The events took over large sections of the pool decks, reducing chair space. Also the restaurant staff was stretched to handle the meals for the events and this impacted on the speed of service in the restaurants.

I spoke with the manager at one point during our stay and she commented that they were learning from Hyatt about their standards. My response to her was that Hyatt should be learning about customer service from them - the quality of the staff truly distinguished this property... we will be back!

Room Tip: Building 3 would be best for adults. Be sure to have a balcony with seating... and of course an oce...
